Murat’s lawyer opposes English police
Scotland Yard, which investigates Maddie’s disappearance, will only question Murat tomorrow
by Marisa Rodrigues
11.12.2014
Robert Murat arrived at the Polícia Judiciária’s Southern Directory, where the diligences are taking place, shortly before 9.30, the time which he had been summoned for to give a statement. He entered through the garage, in the back seat of a car that was driven by a Judiciária employee, which also carried his wife, Michaela Walzuc, and their lawyer, Francisco Pagarete. But only Michaela started being heard.
Francisco Pagarete raised a juridical question – which delayed the diligence – over the fact that Murat, who was made an arguido in 2007, was subject to several interrogations about the same facts that he was now to be confronted with, within the scope of Scotland Yard’s investigation.
According to the lawyer, Portuguese justice cleared him from all suspicions related to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, therefore he could not be summoned again over the same reasons.
The issue was eventually resolved and the questioning was scheduled for tomorrow, with Robert Murat agreeing to answer the list of over one hundred questions.
The couple left the Judiciária shortly before 18h00 without speaking to the journalists.
Contacted by JN, the lawyer, Francisco Pagarete, did not clarify the reasons for the postponement.
Silvia Baptista, who worked as head of staff at the Ocean Club in 2007, was another witness heard yesterday.
Some of the questions focused on the hiring and the professional relationship with the driver who was made an arguido in July on request from British authorities.
Three other witnesses from a total of 11 will be heard today. All of them will be asked over 100 questions chosen by English police.
