Bamber accompanied by Julie Mugford attends his parents funeral.

Jeremy Bamber (born 1961) was the son of a vicar's daughter who had an affair with a married army sergeant, and subsequently gave her baby up for adoption when he was six weeks old.  He was adopted by Nevill and June Bamber who sent him to Gresham's School, a boarding school in Norfolk, then to college in Colchester.

Jeremy spent time in Australia and New Zealand, before returning to work on his father's farm near Tolleshunt D'arcy for £170 a week.

The Bamber extended family also ran a lucrative caravan site called Osea Road Caravan Park, but according to The Times they would not let Bamber work there, saying he had no business sense. His former girlfriend  (Julie Mugford) later revealed at his trial that she and Bamber had broken into the caravan site premises and ransacked it before making off with a substantial sum of money. Nevill and June Bamber were apparently unaware when they died that their adopted son had been responsible for the robbery.

Jeremy set up home in a cottage at 9 Head Street, Goldhanger, some three to three-and-a-half miles from his parents' farmhouse. Nevill owned the cottage and Bamber lived there rent-free. It took five minutes to drive by car from the cottage to his parents' home, and about 15 minutes by bicycle as revealed at his trial.

Evidence was given at Bambers trial that everything was just not as it seemed between the young Bamber and the rest of his family.  Family members testified that Nevill Bamber had broken down in tears on occasion having been frustrated by his sons activities. It was not surprising given that Nevill Bamber was a decorated war hero, a highly respected farmer and magistrate.

Nevill Bamber was also reported to have said that his son was capable of killing him and that he would never turn his back on him.  In the run up to the time of the murders it was also known that June Bamber had changed her will in favour of her adopted daughter and grandchildren with no mention being made of her adopted son Jeremy.  It is speculated that Nevill was on the verge of doing the same thing when he was murdered.

This is my favourite all time video of the case...

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.
