Did Goncalo Amaral has any university qualifications?

Something that Luz posted yesterday made me think

"What's the percentage of University graduates in the SY? How many have PhDs? How many speak or understand more than 2 languages?"

It is widely known that Amaral uses the title "Doctor" ( or Doutor)  And the implication is that he thus holds a higher qualification equivalent to the UK PhD 

Is this correct?

NO.....Amaral has a degree equivalent to a Bachelors degree. In many European countries this gives the entitlement to use the title Doctor

Now that I didn't know. So an initial degree carries the title "Doctor" in some countries? Amaral has an initial degree?

Not at all.  There seems to be some misconception that Amaral has some sore of higher level qualification, and that his "doctor" is equivalent to a PhD.  It is in fact a normal first degree.   

As for your last point - no inference or comparison in the OP (except possibly in your own head).

Right I see some sites in Portuguese call him Doctor Goncalo Amaral.
One site associated with Tony Bennett also has "Doctor Gonçalo Amaral, former police officer in charge of the Madeleine McCann case."

I believe we've been through this before Rob so I have merged the threads.  The Portuguese use the term differently to what we're used to in the UK.  And no, he does not hold a PHD.

there was a time that when you did an evening class at a technical college you might be awarded a certificate...these days you get a degree...and in some cases it seems..a masters
