The girl's body was never found, but John and sister Leonor - mother of the child - just condemned by the Court of Portimão, after a jury trial, of murder and concealment of a body of the child.

In late September 2013, the uncle of Joana fulfilled half of the sentence.

However, the court concluded that some assumptions are not met for parole: John assumes the practice of criminal acts, externalize feelings of victimization, shows no empathy for the victim, have joined and have four while inmate disciplinary sanctions. João Cipriano Carregueira serving time in the jail, in Sintra.

According to the judgment, "would be incomprehensible and counterproductive to society than someone who is responsible for the commission of such a crime as that for which the inmate was convicted benefit of parole once reached the middle of the pen."

Joana have been killed after seeing mom and uncle in incestuous act. Have been dismembered and thrown to the pigs.

In 2009 Leonor blamed her brother for the crime. He had already done the same.

There was no evidence whatsoever either about this "incestuous act", nor about having been "thrown to the pigs".

The only "evidence" that she had been dismembered was a reconstruction in dubious circumstances involving trying to chop up a doll to stuff it into a small freezer, which would have required taking out the drawers. None of the other occupants of the house appear to have noticed that.

There is a problem with the Google translation, particulary this:

Tribunal de Execução de Penas entende que João Cipriano não assume a prática do crime, vitimiza-se e não demonstra empatia para com a vítima.

I.e., he does NOT admit to the crime; he considers himself to be a victim and doesn't demonstrate empathy towards the victim. If he believes that Leonor sold her, then he may well think that she's alive and living with a different family.

Sooo... getting out on parole means assuming responsibility for a crime and expressing remorse over something you may never have done in the first place.

If you protest against that, no parole.

Justice must be seen to be done and in this case it has

The Judge recognised the unspeakable nature of the  crime committed by this foul and grotesque pair  and rightfully keeps them away from civilized society

And one of the judges espressed his disagreement with the original case.  Amnesty International were very interested in the injustices and extreme torture to Leonor, in the case.
