COVID-19
« on: March 16, 2020, 09:36:11 AM »
I'm surprised we haven't already got a thread dedicated to the above but I couldn't find one.

I will ask John to set up a separate section for this to enable us to discuss our concerns and experiences.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I have no concerns at all, other than having to wipe with newspaper, since I'm a very long way off from receiving my pension.

How would receiving a pension assist?

What are your thoughts on the virus?  Are you changing how you usually live your life?

At the moment self and family are carrying on as usual just taking a few extra precautions eg using gloves in the gym and taking hand sanitiser everywhere to clean hands after touching anything communal.

Afaik I'm healthy but taking steps to improve my immunity by eating all the right stuff and cutting back on booze.

I'm not working currently out of choice so would be happy to do any unpaid work eg dropping off food for the elderly who might not be up to ordering online or helping out in other ways.

I think the elderly should be encouraged to get online to Skype etc.

Where on earth did you manage to get hand sanitiser, Holly?

I'm not really elderly(66), hubby is 72. We have just been on Skype with our little grandson in Canada, so yes, I agree with you there.  Unfortunately, a number of elderly people don't really know how to use computers (I know this, because I'm a volunteer at our local family history centre, and most people who need help with their research need it because they aren't familiar with I.T).

We have cut down enormously on socialising (no choice, as everything we usually do is closed), now down to dog walking and trips to the depleted supermarkets. We don't mind that much: we have a garden, computers, TV, books. I think some people are going to hate "social distancing" though. At the end of all this, I would guess that a good number of people who have managed to escape the virus will have mental health problems, or will be thinking about divorce. Just my opinion---------.

There are three threads on the topic in this part of the forum - I thought you were a moderator?  Shouldn’t you be aware of the hot topics of discussion on the forum?

I've always been a bit of a clean freak so hand sanitiser is something I always have in stock which has recently been replenished through a good friend who's a beauty therapist and uses big commercial tubs.

I don't really foresee any problems for us in that we can ammuse ourselves independently of each other and together too.

The local Waitrose cafe has closed so I'll miss that in terms of chatting to others.  I'll refrain from frequenting the local boozer so will miss that too.  The gym is still open but I'm  wondering if this is a good idea with sweat floating around so I'll probably just do more running and walking.

The elderly just need to overcome the phychological barriers of fearing change and the unknown.  Unless someone has learning difficulties grasping the basics is within the reach of everyone regardless of age.

I guess it depends how long it goes on for as to what any social. Implications might be but it must be difficult for families with dependent children.

I can see it might lead to civil unrest if people's lives are adversely affected especially economically.  I guess this is the reason the Government is keen to introduce all sorts of measures offering people a lifeline but even when the virus is controlled it might well take a long while until life as we know it resumes!

You could always drive yourself crackers doing word puzzles, crosswords or jigsaws before it's safe to emerge...

I'm already a crossword and sudoku fan. Don't have the patience to do jigsaws, but hubby likes them.

Will spend more time cooking---but I think I'll give the pigeon pie a miss!

I print out the daily cryptic crossword and its solution above, staple them together and attempt each one in bed at night until they make me doze off.
I've got an inch thick pile of old ones still waiting to be completed. 8(8-))

The pie might taste better than it looks.

If you were in any doubt about just how many dumb, selfish cu*ts there are out there, get yourself down Tesco.
