Assuming that she is alive, two possibilities come to mind.

1  she may not be in any sort of position to do so - eg living in some isolated log cabin in the Appalachian mountains, far away from the world of Facebook and Twitter. Alternatively some sort of slave, sexual or otherwise.

2  She may not wish to. She might be quite content with the life she is living and have no wish to change it.

Language skills can easily be lost if one is brought up to speak only in another language.

Both those are a real possible scenarios.  I had thought she could be in a convent where they isolate themselves from the world.
