You bet.  How dare he make such hurtful and unhelpful comments.

Indeed Jassi.

Ferrari also asked, how do you know she didn't just wander off and also he was asking how the expenditure is justified on this case.

He got it slightly wrong there, saying only £5,000,000. When it's now  approx. £7,000,000.

Let’s see now, way back in the dark ages of 2007 they obviously did not have recourse to all the technology available to the Met and PJ teams who have been working in PDL.

Terrain spotting from the air:  oh wait a minute the files mention a helicopter deployment, so although the search criteria would have been slightly different, the technology was there and it was used.

Ground penetrating radar:  Hmmm, they had that as well and we know it was used at Mr Murat's villa.

Dogs:  the GNR dogs provided leads well worth following.

Personnel: they had that in plenty, but as to deployment, Mark Harrison’s veiled reference in the files to the lack of experience of all but the mountain rescue team in searching for the missing seems to have been justified – we have just watched the Met  officers on hands and knees inspecting drains and a big hole in the ground which nobody looked at – in an area of waste ground close to where a man was seen carrying a child in 2007.

Forensics:  they had access to good laboratories, but they botched collecting samples and misinterpreted the results of the ones they did manage to collect.

Phone tracking:  all the information was available in 2007 - Heriberto, a civilian, worked it out just by checking the files; until the Met and the new PJ teams did the same no official body triangulated or worked on the calls to link them to individuals in the relevant area at the relevant time as has been done in 2014.  Although some work was certainly carried out on the Tapas and Madeleine's parents.

So I think the team in 2007 had the resources available to the teams doing the work in 2014.

If these had been used as demonstrated by the professionals of 2014, there is a fair chance that they would have discovered what happened to Madeleine then; or at the least options would have been eliminated enabling progression to the next level, which is what the Met have told us is happening now.

Although expensive it would not have been half as expensive as it is now and a family might have been spared seven years of absolute torture.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

.....or, as you are clearly apportioning blame with the use of hindsight, that same family could have saved everybody involved the stress and expense by taking better care of their children in the first instance!  8((()*/

No hindsight involved.

Just watch professionals at work and see how it should have been done - even at the time the GNR officers on duty were appalled at being made the laughing stock of police services throughout the world.

>> Clip<< The pair - both uniformed officers from Portugal's Guarda Nacional Republicana - criticised senior colleagues for failing to secure the scene, saying: "They regret it because now the whole world's laughing and pointing fingers in disgust, saying how incompetent the Portuguese police are."

>>Clip<< "The world's eyes are on us and we mucked up big and there's nothing they can do to change things - it's too late."

Better call the Met and the PJ and tell them just to forget all about those cuddly child rapists and child abductors ... they're only perpetrators but they are certainly a better class of people than the parents of innocent children ... and not to be blamed in any way.

It is that sort of attitude from people like you that has allowed these horrors to go unpunished ... bet they are not feeling too happy now that they know that is all changed.

The PJ and the Met are holding them responsible and even better, they know who they are.

There is no proven connection between this case and any paedophiles.

You are desperately clutching at straws.

Why is that ?

Why don't you listen to the podcast from LBC with Nick Ferrari ?

It was heartening to see the close working relationships being forged in PDL between the police personnel of two  nations.  This was obvious at their temporary parting when kisses were exchanged.

Although there are more searches of this type in the pipe line, it is obvious these are not the be all and end all of the search to discover what became of Madeleine.
We can only hope with her parents that she will eventually be found alive and well.

>> SNIP << Detectives found no evidence relating to the missing child during searches of three areas of land over the past 10 days, but have said more will be carried out “shortly”.

In a statement released yesterday, Mr and Mrs McCann said: “We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judiciaria and the Guarda Nacional Republicana.

“We are further encouraged that despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive.

“As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of inquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with the close co-operation of the British and Portuguese authorities.

They know who they are? Case solved then. Better tell them to pack their shovels away.

Or would a better turn of phrase be that they have suspects in mind?

Whatever pleases you.

Could you save a missing child?

Signing up to receive text alerts when children go missing could help save lives …
As police in Portugal carry out a painstaking ground search for clues in the case of Madeleine McCann, many people in Britain will be wishing they could do something to help.
But while that case is now in the hands of a dedicated team of detectives, there is something that everyone in this country could do to protect children in the future.
The mothers of Madeleine and the murdered schoolgirl April Jones have both asked people to sign up to the new Child Rescue Alert scheme, which helps publicise missing children in the crucial first hours after they disappear.
The messages are free and will only be used in situations where children are thought to be at real risk of harm.
Speaking shortly before the new scheme launched last month, Kate McCann said: “When a child is abducted, families are devastated and entire communities are torn apart. The agony of not knowing where your child is is almost impossible to imagine. The helplessness is at times overwhelming. But there is now something we can all do to help. Please sign up to receive alerts – you could save a child’s life.”
What is it?
The new alert scheme has been created by the National Crime Agency and the charity Missing People, and it’s powered by technology company Groupcall.
Under the new system, if a child goes missing and is considered to be in immediate danger then police can use the alerts to spread the word far more rapidly than before.
They will be able to send text messages, use social media and commandeer digital billboards to ensure that people know to keep watch for a specific child that’s in danger.
You can sign up now to receive those text messages at http://www.childrescuealert.org.uk alerting you if a child is snatched or missing in your area. It takes literally a couple of minutes to register.
Will it work?
America already has a similar scheme – the American Amber Alert system. It has helped save 679 children since it was launched, and in 2012 alone 68 kids were safely recovered as a direct result of the alerts.
In the Netherlands too, a similar system has seen children safely brought home as a direct result of the alerts. It’s used on average four times a year and in 64 per cent of those cases the child was found thanks to the nationwide alert system.
When will the Child Rescue Alerts be used?
These alerts won’t be sent for every missing child, there are strict criteria. They are only going to be used in a real crisis, where a child is thought to be at risk of serious harm or death.
Organisers hope this means they always get noticed and acted on, rather than becoming a routine event. You can find out more about helping other youngsters via the website Missing Children.
What will it cost?
You won’t pay a penny to receive these alerts and your information won’t be shared or sold.
By spreading the word via Facebook, Twitter and among your friends, you could help the charity reach the one million subscribers it needs to help children in danger.
Are you signing up? Will you share this information?

Dismal Spectacle,

The investigation of the last two weeks, if it can be called an investigation, was surreal.

By Carlos Anjos [president of the Committee for the protection of crime victims, former president of PJ Union]
13 June 2014
With thanks to Joana Morais for translation

If there were doubts about the PJ investigation, lo and behold, the English police conferred legitimacy to it.

The investigation that we have witnessed in the last two weeks, if it can be called investigation, was at best, surreal. While watching Andy Redwood, I've missed Gonçalo Amaral.

The English police had no idea what they were doing, in addition to spending money - in two years they have already spent over €8 million, the operating budget of the PJ in one year.

In two weeks, they told us that Maddie was abducted by an abuser who used to lay down in a bed with minors. And the girl woke up, was killed and buried.

Then there were three Portuguese, but could have been six, that were committing burglaries. Maddie woke up, was killed and buried.

Then, at the searches, they found two cannabis plants and look: Maddie was killed by drug traffickers who were robbing her house.

Objective fact: the English have no doubt that there was a robbery.

Problem: there was no break-in, the doors were locked and nothing was stolen.

So how did they get in? Another mystery.

And then they went, as they came, after that dismal spectacle.

And BTW the age calculation is 21 - 7 = 14 at the time (not 15).

Gerry and Kate McCann furious at claims they hid daughter Madeleine's body in coffin

Kate and Gerry McCann tonight told of their anguish after disgraced detective Goncalo Amaral threw yet more hurtful allegations at them.

The former police officer claimed the couple could have hidden their daughter Madeleine’s body inside the coffin of a woman, who was due to be cremated, in a church near where the three-year-old vanished.

And he today compounded their misery by sacking his lawyer moments before the pair arrived at his libel trial in Lisbon, delaying the hearing for a fourth time.

Kate said outside court: “Every time he postpones the case it brings us more pain and distress. We just want justice. This is not fair.”

Speaking earlier to a Portuguese newspaper and its TV channel, Amaral, sacked after botching the initial hunt for Madeleine, repeated his claims the youngster is dead.

But he suggested the McCanns hid her body in the woman’s coffin at Praia da Luz catholic church – which they had a key for – a month after she vanished in 2007.

Amaral added: “The mystery will only end when the McCann couple are no longer being protected. Only then will we understand the truth.”

But a source close to the couple said: “These are sickening allegations that no sane person would believe.

“It’s about time people realised what Mr Amaral is, a liar and a fantasist. He has been making these false claims since he was sacked.

“He is suggesting Kate and Gerry moved Madeleine’s body a month after she vanished.

"At that time they were the most-watched couple in the history of the modern media.”

Kate, 46, and Gerry, 45, arrived at the Palace of Justice at 9.30am today for the long-awaited libel hearing. But the judge adjourned the case after Amaral revealed he had fired his lawyer.

Heart doctor Gerry said: “We’re exasperated that the hearing has been cancelled once again at Mr Amaral’s request. This is the fourth time.

"We want to get justice for Madeleine. Today is a blatant and cynical attempt to wear us down and it’s Madeleine who is suffering. We’re not giving up.”

Kate added: “That letter could have been handed in before we left Britain.”

Amaral’s libel case began in 2009 over his book The Truth of the Lie. In it he claims Madeleine died inside the couple’s holiday flat and they covered it up.

The couple deny the allegations. The hearing was adjourned until July 8.
