Before March, Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange was aware of 12 break-ins and four sex assaults. Now they are aware of six new break-ins including five new sex assaults.

However, despite five of the new incidents being reported to local police at the time, these details were not passed on to the current UK investigation.

Mr Redwood expressed “major concerns” that local Portuguese police could hold the key to the mystery of Maddie’s disappearance but have failed to inform their national counterparts, the Policia Judiciaria.

What happened to the arrests that were imminent earlier in the year?
Has anyone been arrested and/or charged?

Madeleine McCann suspects 'all knew each other and exchanged calls on night of vanishing'

BRITONS will be questioned as new suspects over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, it was claimed today

By: David Pilditch and Gerard Couzens
Published: Mon, November 10, 2014

The British nationals are among a group of seven people due to be quizzed as arguidos, leading Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticias reported.

Four more will be interviewed as witnesses towards the end of the month at a police station in Faro.

The seven suspects reportedly know each other and exchanged phone calls on the night Madeleine vanished on May 3 2007.

They are also all familiar with Praia da Luz - the Algarve holiday resort where Madeleine was staying with her family.

Some are also said to have criminal records and others are ex-workers of the Ocean Club holiday complex where Madeleine vanished from.

It is not known how many of the group of seven, which also include Portuguese nationals, are British.

At least one of the 11 people set to be quizzed later this month is thought to be a woman.

British police are now in the process of formally asking for permission to sit in on the interviews, which will be led by Portuguese officers who will ask questions on their behalf.

An official request was made in a fifth international letter sent by British police to the Portuguese authorities.

Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann, both 46, from Rothley, Leicestershire, have never given up hope that their daughter will be found alive.

They are being kept informed of developments by police.

Members of Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange squad visited Portugal a month ago.

A small team of three officers including Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood met Policia Judiciaria bosses in Faro.

They also travelled to the university city of Coimbra - a five hour drive north - to visit a laboratory where many of the DNA samples collected after Madeleine’s disappearance are held

British police told bosses at Portugal’s Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences they want to retest some of the samples to try to crack the mystery of Madeleine’s disappearance.

They are yet to send a sixth international letter of request which Portuguese prosecutor Ines Sequeira will have to authorise before Metropolitan Police forensics experts are allowed access to the lab or given permission to take samples to Britain to analyse them.

The forensic material includes hairs and pieces of the curtains that hung in apartment 5A where Madeleine was staying with her family.

Last month it emerged nearly 100 strands of hair tested during the original Madeleine McCann investigation were never DNA-matched.

The Operation Grange inquiry is running in parallel with a new Portuguese probe, reopened in May - more than five years after the investigation was officially shelved.

One of the suspects questioned in July was a former Ocean Club worker and another a 51-year-old schizophrenic drug addict. They both denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

Portuguese police believe Madeleine was snatched by a foreigner no longer living in Portugal.

However they have still not formally ruled out the involvement of junkie burglar Euclides Monteiro, whose widow they questioned last year, despite the fact DNA tests have put him in the clear.

Scotland Yard said it would not give a “running commentary” on the investigation.

The Home Office has defended the rising cost of the £10 million probe, saying: “The Government believes it is right that it does all it can to support the search for Madeleine McCann.”

Were the 'imminent arrests' an official announcement made by the investigating authorities?

Or did they emanate from a friend of a friend whose hairdresser's cousin knows someone who knows a source close to the investigation?

A British man and woman are among seven people to be questioned as suspects in the Madeleine McCann investigation.

The seven will be spoken to by officers between November 24 and November 28 in Faro.

Two women will be questioned - the British one and another of Eastern or Central European origin.

Five men, two British and three Portuguese will also be asked for their whereabouts on the night Madeleine vanished. A further four people will be spoken to as witnesses.

It’s thought three of those being questioned will be declared “arguidos” - or given formal suspect status under Portuguese law.

Some of those being questioned have been spoken to by police before - none were known to the McCanns.

It’s thought some amongst the group may have worked at the Ocean Club around the time the three year old disappeared.

This is the latest stage of the British investigation into what may have happened and follows extensive reviews of mobile phone footage.

It is impossible to separate fact from fiction in the absence of any official press releases.

The Telegraph seems to have got hold of some information about the identity of one ?? of the females we are told will be interviewed.

She is not British and is of Eastern or Central European origin.

None of those to be interviewed are known to Madeleine’s parents.

One wonders how long it is going to be before the penny finally drops for some people.

Seven suspects are to be questioned quizzed over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann's disappearance, it has emerged.

Three of the men are thought to be Portuguese, and the non-British woman is of Eastern or Central European origin.

It certainly seems that close scrutiny of the phone usage around the time Madeleine vanished has highlighted people who should be interviewed to be ruled in or ruled out of the inquiry and who will perhaps be able to add to what is already known by SY.

As far as I can ascertain from the files, the only usage gone into in any depth were calls between Mr Murat and his business associate Sergei Malinka; Madeleine’s parents’ calls and their friends’ calls.  None of whom had criminal records.

Extraordinary that some of those who we are told did have criminal records, who worked in the OC and we are told were known to each other were not given similar scrutiny at the time and it has taken over seven years to arrive at this stage.

Madeleine McCann: Police will quiz British man and woman among new suspects

Nov 10, 2014 22:41 By David Collins, Russell Myers

The pair, who live in Portugal, are among seven new suspects who Met police will order to provide a DNA sample. A source said Scotland Yard investigators believe they have “identified certain people who have vital information”

Seven new suspects have been identified by Scotland Yard officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and will be ordered to provide a DNA sample.

Detectives plan to quiz the five men and two women this month. Two of the suspects are British.

The pair – a man and a woman – live on the Algarve in Portugal.

It is believed that the expats may know each other but it has not been revealed if they are a couple.

The DNA of the seven suspects will be matched against evidence taken from the apartment at the Ocean Club resort in the resort town of Praia da Luz where Madeleine was staying with her family when she vanished in 2007 aged three.

A source said: “After reviewing thousands of pieces of evidence, Scotland Yard investigators believe they have identified certain people who have vital information.

“It is likely the British suspects are already known to the investigation.”

Insiders said the seven people will be classed as “persons of interest” – or “arguidos” under Portuguese law.

Four of them are men from Portugal. The other is understood to be a woman of Central or Eastern European origin.

Interviews will be carried out by Portuguese officers with Scotland Yard detectives present.

It is understood some of the suspects know each other or worked together at the Ocean Club resort.

At least two of them are believed to have criminal records and some made phone calls to each other on the night Madeleine disappeared.

It is believed that the two British suspects were spoken to by Portuguese police after Madeleine vanished.

A Met spokesman said he could not “provide a running commentary on an ongoing investigation”.

The developments come three years after the Met launched Operation Grange, a fresh probe into the case. The inquiry began after Madeleine’s parents Gerry, 45, and Kate, 46, of Rothley, Leics, appealed to David Cameron for help in the search.

It emerged a fortnight ago that forensic experts were unable to DNA match 98 hair strands found during the original Portuguese police probe.

Scotland Yard believes these hairs could hold the key to solving the case.

The Operation Grange team last went to Portugal a month ago, visiting a lab where many of the DNA samples are held.

One of the suspects questioned in July was a former Ocean Club worker and another a schizophrenic drug addict.

Operation Grange is running in parallel with a Portuguese probe, reopened in May five years after being shelved.

I am taking my words back re the slim chances. IMO this was really clever to try matching the phone records with people and then the same people with the hairs found in the room.. if any of the hair matches.. then bingo!

Think you were right first time VIXTE.

I would say chances are very, very slim.  But at least SY are prepared to take that slim chance,
