just hope they find answers whatever they may be... as much as i'm intrigued by the case and reports surrounding it the best outcome would be them finding her alive... but if they even do could be a tragic tale... so sad... that said why so much resources on this case and not others? The parents tenacity maybe...

What exactly do SY hope to achieve by this investigation ? They and their investigation have no legal standing in Portugal. They have no power to question, arrest or charge anyone without permission and if, as it has been claimed, the PJ are following another theory, what exactly is the money being spent being spent for ?

Hunt: Madeleine McCann  The cost of the British police search for Madeleine McCann will top £10million as a new drive for the truth gives fresh hope to her parents.
Scotland Yard’s review of the youngster’s disappearance seven years ago will cost more than double the original £5million that was estimated by the Home Office.

But the Home Office last night defended the rising cost and said: “The Government believes it is right that it does all it can to support the search for Madeleine McCann.

“The Home Office will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police to review and control the costs appropriately and to ensure that the investigation has the resources it requires.”

Missing: Madeleine McCann

It comes as a top Portuguese prosecutor takes over solving the mystery of Madeleine’s disappearance from her holiday apartment.

Ines Sequeira is said to be ‘‘utterly determined’’ to solve the case.

And Metropolitan Police officers are also planning to return to the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz to ‘‘re-interview’’ three suspects in their push to find the kidnappers. They have sent a sent a fifth letter to Portuguese officers requesting access to the investigation, which has thrown up seven suspects.

Scotland Yard has handed the Home Office a bill for £7,332,389 since 2011 when the force was called in by David Cameron.

Figures show police received a special grant payment of £1.9million in 2011/2012, £2.8million in 2012/2013 and £2.6million in 2013/2014.

The amounts were revealed following a Freedom of Information request. It showed the bill for 2014/2015 is expected to be “broadly in line with previous years”. That will take the total to above £10million.

Thirty murder squad detectives are continuing the hunt in Portugal.

Expensive specialist forensic units have carried out excavations around Praia da Luz from where Madeleine went missing in 2007, aged three.

Scotland Yard refused to comment about payments to Portuguese police for the search.

A Met spokesman said: “We are not prepared to give a running commentary on the search.”

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry from Rothley, Leics, have been assured the search will go on for the “foreseeable future”.

A spokesman for the family said: “Madeleine’s parents remain extremely grateful for the work carried out by officers from Operation Grange in the continued search for their daughter.”

A team of British forensic analysts are expected to join DCI Andy Redwood and his team of detectives in Portugal this week in a renewed bid to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Portuguese police sources told the Guardian that the scientists have asked to revisit some of the evidence retrieved from the holiday apartment from which the British toddler went missing on 3 May 2007. The forensic evidence gathered at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance has been stored at the National Institute for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Coimbra in central Portugal.

Detectives and forensic technicians from the Metropolitan police are scheduled to visit the laboratory on Wednesday.

Detectives led by Redwood will meet with their Polícia Judiciária counterparts in Faro on Tuesday to discuss the request.

Detectives led by Redwood will meet with their Polícia Judiciária counterparts in Faro on Tuesday to discuss the request.

Police said they had not yet received any official orders from the public prosecutor’s office and that the next phase of the investigation was unlikely to commence for at least a fortnight.

A source close to the case told the Guardian that the request appeared “to focus primarily on the further questioning of some of the suspects brought in by Faro police in the summer”.

In July, Portuguese police quizzed four Portuguese nationals who were declared arguidos, or formal suspects. They also spoke to 11 witnesses.

The questioning of these suspects followed the end of major ground-level searches in Praia da Luz in early June, when Scotland Yard detectives scoured a large patch of scrubland.

The force described the operation as the largest overseas deployment ever undertaken by British police, and said it was the “first phase of this investigation” into Madeleine’s disappearance.

Although the searches turned up no fresh evidence, the Met said detectives had gained an “essential understanding of the activity for which people have used this piece of land” and alluded to “substantial work which is yet to be done in the coming months”.

Excellent news ... forensic practices and technology are far more advanced now than they were in 2007.  If Madeleine's bedding had been preserved there is a slight chance foreign DNA might have been found, unfortunately I don't believe that was done.

The only disappointment is that Portuguese police sources seem to be feeding the press again.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

British detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann have arrived in the Algarve for another routine meeting with the Policia Judiciaria in Faro.

This is the first time detectives from Scotland Yard have returned to the Algarve since sitting in on the questioning of four suspects at the beginning of July.

Following today’s scheduled meeting with regional police Chief Mota Carmo, detectives will head to the National Institute for Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Coimbra in central Portugal.

It is expected that they will be reviewing some of the evidence retrieved from the apartment from where Madeleine went missing in 2007.

The forensic scientists who have gone to Portugal will no doubt test the samples for which no matches were found at the time.

I wonder if there may be matches to one or more of the people of interest to SY.

It appears what I posted several months back is now coming to fruition.  The forensics are being reviewed using the very latest techniques.  I don't hold any misconceptions about the outcome however and unless most of PdL is dug up I don't see this case being solved any time soon.

£10 million spent so far, how much more?

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Is this the forensic examination of the contaminated samples which revealed inconclusive reults. ?
