Annie Börjesson was found dead on the shore close to Prestwick Airport, Scotland, on 4 December 2005. Following an autopsy in Sweden it was established that Annie had drowned in fresh water.
Annie had been working in Edinburgh and was on her way home to Sweden for a short holiday. We know that she intended to return as she paid the advance rent on her accommodation before leaving Edinburgh.
In her luggage she had her Swedish passport and two library books which she intended to return to a library in Sweden. Annie also had an appointment with her hairdresser in Sweden on the 5 December.

The last sightings of Annie were made on the 3 December 2005 when she was observed on CCTV at Prestwick Airport, then walking in Prestwick town with the last sighting being seen speaking with two men on the shore.Annie was a very beautiful 30 year-old woman. She was healthy and wellbuilt and also a very good swimmer, she never used any drugs and was very careful with alcohol. As a person she was very happy, lively and friendly. Annie was also a very good singer and liked to perform in front of an audience. She spoke English, French, Finish and Hungarian very well. During the autumn of 2004 Annie studied English in Cambridge, returned to Sweden before travelling to work in Edinburgh in February 2005. Annie went to Scotland of her own free will, she loved Scotland and its people very much.
Strathclyde Police told the family that Annie had committed suicide and that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Her mother Guje and others travelled to Scotland and after making enquiries found that the information supplied by the police did not match that recovered during their own investigation which pointed to murder. The more they looked the more questions were not being answered.
Annie had no financial problems. A few days before her murder she had a successful job interview, had a vaccination, paid the rent for a whole month in advance, bought a leisure card, went swimming and attended a Rugby International between Scotland and New Zealand. At this time however her family did become concerned that Annie was under some form of threat but she told her mother that it was something she would have to deal with herself.
Two weeks after Annie's death her body was returned to Sweden. Surprisingly 60 to 80 centimetres of Annie's hair was missing, the family also claim that other forms of desecration of her body have not been satisfactorily explained. They are also concerned at inconsistencies in the post mortem results. Items of Annie's property including a filofax have never been recovered and it is claimed important witnesses have not been interviewed.
Annie's family and friends are all convinced that she was the victim of a crime and want her death properly investigated. Annie's mother Guje has the final word.
"We need to get the truth, so we can let Annie go to rest in the arms of the land she loved. In her grave I have placed a thistle from the concerned and caring people of Scotland."

Crown Office offer untenable explanations over Annie Borjesson death - still withholding evidence & FAI
The Crown Office, who can always be depended upon to lie through their teeth when caught out in an investigation, have offered up the poorest explanation of anomalies to the family of Annie Borjesson, who died at Prestwick in December 2005.
When the body of the young Swedish woman was returned to her family, Guje Borjesson questioned why her daughters hair had been hacked off, only to be now told it was the undertakers who did it, allegedly to present the body in better circumstances.
The death of Annie Borjesson, which has not yet received a Fatal Accident Inquiry, despite a complete lack of explanation for the death, raises many questions of why the Crown Office have been covering up what seem to be a catalogue of failures on their part, and of the Police investigation into the death, which has seen little or no accountability of events.
The family of Annie Borjesson await a proper inquiry & investigation into their daughters death and release of all the evidence in the case, along with CCTV footage, still under possession of the Crown.

There have been a considerable number of foreign nationals murdered in Scotland over the last ten years or so. There was an American woman bludgeoned to death in a forest if i remember correctly and a young Irish student chased to his death in Edinburgh when he jumped over a wall in the darkness in order to escape a mob only to fall 40ft on the other side onto a dual carriageway. There is nothing more dreadful for a parent than for them to lose a child in such a manner.
I have every sympathy for the Borgesson family to have lost their daughter in such a way and then to find that the Scottish authorities are refusing to investigate her death as suspicious. Didn't they have the Silent Walk vigil in Edinburgh a few years back and more recently a petition to the Scottish parliament.
What happened there?

Annie's mother and best friend, Guje Borgesson and Maria Jansson, organised the Silent Walk for Justice in Edinburgh on 4 December each year. The last one took place on 4 December 2009. Both Guje and Maria have had health issues since then and have not been able to continue.
The Petition had 3037 signatories and was submitted to the Scottish Parliament on 4 June 2010 but there has never been an appropriate response by the Petitions Committee. Just another case of sweeping under the carpet!
