My son-in-law is out in the garden right now mowing the lawn. We have our family visiting (2 adults + 3 children). The plan is to have an Easter BBQ tomorrow. The shopping has been done. We are now fingers-crossed on the weather. That has been good from the point of watering our crops and replenishing our reservoirs, but what we need tomorrow is a dry day. Not necessarily sunny, just dry.
In total between us, we have 5 young children. Plus a bucketload of Ester eggs purchased today. Plus a lawn currently being mowed.
We're working hard at arranging an Easter egg hunt for the littlies.

Easter Sunday is expected to be just as lovely.
We are preparing to have sixteen for dinner.

There will be the traditional Easter egg hunt for the grandchildren who are now twenty, eighteen, fifteen thirteen and twelve.lol.
Two new additions to the Easter fun, both grandsons have girlfriends,
The morning will begin with going to church.
Then it will be busy, busy busy.
The family chip in with the cooking.
One daughter in law making Daupinoise, a grandson making cauliflower cheese, one son making Minestrone soup and one of the girlfriends making Polish cheesecake.
Cooking four different roasts.
Lamb, roast beef, turkey and Quorn.
All very traditional.
Easter blessings to all.

Easter is wholly Religious in France, but all of the shops are open, even on Easter Friday Morning. France is a Catholic Country, but a bit laid back about it all. It seems to me to be more of a way of life than a Religion. People are inherently kind in a way in which disappeared from Britain a very long time ago.

I am thinking about starting up another thread that has nothing to do with MBM, and I found your post extremely interesting on 3 different fronts.
As for the Algarve, at this very moment in time, the sky is perfect azure, with not a cloud in sight. It looks like our BBQ, scheduled for 3pm on our main patio, is definitely ON.
I have been instructed by my beloved that as it will be a large family gathering (8 adults, 5 kids), I have to pack in at least 2 walkies with Gonçalo before prep and people start. I have just returned from walkie #1. So I am on schedule.
Do we have a table long enough for 8 adults? Dunno. I reckon we will have to improvise.

The trouble here is that you never can tell with Charlotte. She still eats like a horse but is getting thiner. The rest of the time she sleeps and pees. Not much quality of life anymore, but someone has to decide.

I watched the footie highlights this morning, and AFAIK, every game was under a lot of sun.
I actually watch the BBC weather forecasts regularly, because for a microsecond they show what is predicted for Spain and Portugal.
Highs, lows, depressions? Tail of which storm coming in from the Atlantic?
I haven't yet found a Portuguese web site that does the same.

Seriously it was my daughter and nieces who went - with little ones.
Nothing but tantrums and tears it seems for the ones who couldn't find eggs.
So sad really how some kids find everything a competition and not the fun of it anymore.

You shouldn't tar all of Britain with the same brush Eleanor. There are many communities which still respect traditional British values despite the greed which has found its way in more recently.

I remember making painted eggs at school. We pierced an (ordinary) egg with a pin at either end, then blew out the contents (how wasteful!), then painted the shell.
Have never been on an Easter egg hunt, but have just received some photos of my 20 month old grandson in Canada taking part in his first one!

Also hot cross buns - and painting eggs. Just simple things and fun, commercialism IMO have taken the pleasure from it now.
The most memorable one was when my dad worked in Holland - and brought us an easter egg in a 24" box with a beautiful crinoline lady on the front.

Here's my Easter tale, short and simple.
We've had 'rough' weather here, on and off, recently. But Easter Sunday was stonking hot. The kids couldn't have an Easter egg hunt in the garden because the chocolate would melt. So we swapped to plan B and held it indoors.
PS I also remember the ceremony of hard-boiling eggs, painting them, and rolling them down hills. Great fun!

I had assumed it was connected to rolling the rock away at the opening to Christ's tomb.

Who knows what The Pagans got up to? So many ancient traditions were stolen and then incorporated into Christianity.

Many congratulations on your golden wedding. We still have 18 months to go to clock up our silver.
On the parent's of my wife's parent's 50th, we organised a golden wedding celebration in a local restaurant called the Kam Tong. We had huge numbers of family there, so we fully occupied the upstairs.
The meal was good. The conviviality was better. My beloved's parents thoroughly enjoyed it. But the highlight of the night was a message from Elizabeth II, her majesty the Queen.
We did not arrange that. And I doubt that Queen Elizabeth monitors golden weddings.

Don't know if Taureans and Pisces are compatible but as we've just celebrated our Golden Wedding, so far so good!!

Here, traditionally painted hard boiled eggs were rolled on Easter Monday.
I think Pisces are more likely to 'go with the flow', which stubborn Taureans don't do, so a reasonable match. I found the hosting great, but I still remember the clearing up which definitely wasn't fun. I hope you had a lovely time though making memories.

I have a granddaughter who celebrates Yule instead of Christmas.
It was all so much more simple in days of Yore. A celebration to tide them over until Spring. This is how I deal with Noel. The Winter Solstice.

Winter must have seemed very long in the olden days. Not much comfort and not much to do. That's probably why Yule was celebrated on the shortest day of the year. Longer days and springtime were on their way. Shrove Tuesday seems to be specifically Christian, rather than related to pre-Christian practices.

Thanks, mrswah. I have only had her since she was six years old, but apart from peeing on the floor she has never done anything to be cross about. She is thirteen years old now and I hope she has had a good time with me.

Many congratulations on your golden wedding. We still have 18 months to go to clock up our silver.
On the parent's of my wife's parent's 50th, we organised a golden wedding celebration in a local restaurant called the Kam Tong. We had huge numbers of family there, so we fully occupied the upstairs.
The meal was good. The conviviality was better. My beloved's parents thoroughly enjoyed it. But the highlight of the night was a message from Elizabeth II, her majesty the Queen.
We did not arrange that. And I doubt that Queen Elizabeth monitors golden weddings.

We had a celebration in a local hotel.
About fifty guests, family and friends for dinner.
No telegram from the Queen....I believe now that has stopped and only begins at Diamond weddings.
Its not something we would wish but I'm sure for many it is special to have.

I once made a rather unusual trip to the vets with a buzzard. I put it in the car boot in a cardboard box and my daughter and I opened the boot very cautiously, peering in through a small gap first in case it was no linger in the box. Very large birds they are; not something you want to get too close to.

When children we had a very docile cocker spaniel called Daisy who had never gone further than our back gate unless on a lead. She was old and arthritic and was beginning to become incontinent so my parents decided it was best to send her to rainbow bridge. My mum phoned the vet and made the appointment then went about her business. When the time came to take her to vets Daisy was nowhere to be found and hasn’t been seen to this very day. My sister swears that she heard my mum making the appointment with the vet and had it on her toes.

My father in law went on holiday and left his dog with my brother in law. The dog disappeared and my vrother in law was so upset. He combed the area but couldn't find it. He had to confess to his Dad when he returned. My father in law went home and found the dog by his back gate. He had travelled 10 miles along a route he had never travelled except by car.

And this is the first dog that I have had to make a decision about. The rest were all immediate decisions.
But it is time for her to go.
PugLove has been of enormous help to me over the years, but then she understands Pugs so much better than I ever did.

Some more so than others, I have found, although they should all be treated well because they are dependant.
To say that I like dogs better than people would be silly.
The death of only one dog really desolated me. I was totally distraught for weeks, months even. He wasn't the first or the last. But it has raised it's head yet again, and that was nearly fifty years ago. He was buried by my family who were all quite young at the time. The rest all went to some landfill.
But Charlotte will be buried under the proverbial Oak Tree by my son, and I feel better about that.

The name Charlotte has always been a mystery to me. She is a Sidney if ever I saw one. But I shall have to wait for the year of The "S" in France for the next one.
The rest of my dogs all had frightfully snobby classical names. Hamlet, Romulus, Remus, Paris, Portia, Artemis, Genevieve.
I might try Laertes or Polonius if I get the chance. My days with dogs are not done yet. There will always be another one.
Ooh, Shylock perhaps. I played Shylock in a school play once. Always the best part in that misbegotten play.
O'Connor the Dachshund? He came with that name. I was going to call him Oslo or Omega, but I wasn't unhappy with O'Connor, so I decided to keep it. A jolly good name for a German Sausage Dog who is owned by a misplaced Irish Dog Ijiot.

Thanks, Lace. I don't know how peaceful her end will be. I just hope that she won't know. But she will know that something odd is going on.
b....r, it has just occurred to me that I should have had the Vet come here, but my neighbour has been so kind that there is nothing else to be done now. Without Kate I would still be thinking about it, and Charlotte would still be getting worse.
Don't we all know better in hindsight.

Oh God. The worst has happened. This mad French artist woman who I like very much, her rather than her Art, turned up and got upset about Charlotte. The upshot of which was that she walzed off with Charlotte who is now going to sleep on her bed along with her other two blind and incontinent dogs. Could you even make this up?
No really, I did try to talk her out of this, but when you don't really want to kill a dog, what else can you do? Kill the dog or give her to someone who will really care for her?
Charlotte looked as though she had finally found Pug Heaven while being cuddled. Even I could see that In fact I nearly cried, and I don't do a lot of that.
I don't have dogs on my bed because I don't like it. The Cat is another story. I have absolutely no control over her. I just kick her off from time to time, but she always comes back when I am asleep.
Anyway, Charlotte it seems will live to fight another day. And what a frightful pain in the butt this has all been for all of us.
