When you're acting defensive in a situation like that it is always suspicious. Anyone who has lost a child would ask and accept anyone's help to find her. But the third man intervened. Why? These 3 have never been properly investigated - SY sort your head out! They contradict each other so much that it can't be truth. An experienced (25 years) child protection officer trying to help when the father said that a paedo gang had taken her. But they don't want her help - acting DEFENSIVE just like the dog alerts >@@(*&)
Yes the Algarve was full of incompetents - the entire GNR, the entire PJ, all MW staff, all OC staff, and now YM, all bumbling, interfering, useless. Seems the only true experts in this whole case, whose professionalism stands out like a shaft of gold when all around is darkness, were a small group of foreign pioneering specialists in remote toddler and baby care.

The only incompetents at the present time are the detectives working on this case - looking for drivers when the prime suspect is getting away on foot with the missing child 8-)(--) They're many top detectives (yet to be seen!) so it's about time they got their fingers out and started doing real investigation work and getting to the heart of the matter instead of beating around the bush (pardon the pun!). But I have faith they're trying to be smarter than smartass  8)--))

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

Getting away on foot maybe but I think you have tooootally the wrong time for it and the totally wrong method too.

Smithman did it 100%! Everything connects with him - why when how! Where he hid the body is the hard part but that's why the dogs are back.

What makes you think 'these 3'' have never been properly  investigated?  That's a preposterous suggestion IMO.

IIRC Yvonne Martin was a stranger off the street who turned up and even though she could see how distraught Kate was - started bombarding her with intrusive questions.   When she was asked to leave she strongly resisted and eventually they had to insist that she left.    She then went off to Reception to ask more questions.  IMO she was more of a busybody than anything else.

It seems to me her ego was dented - hence the anonymous letter re David Payne,  who was the person who asked her to leave.

The only contribution she has made to the case IMO - is that she confirmed what a dreadful state Kate was in that morning   (crying intensely) - even asking if a doctor had seen her - which directly contradicts the claims made by some sceptics that Kate and Gerry blythely went off for a jog along the beach that morning - as if nothing serious had happened.

What has YM contributed apart from that??   Well -  she said that she thought she remembered David Payne's face from somewhere.   To date she has not remembered from where.        And that's it.

I've got no time for people who send anonymous letters - that's not how professonal people behave IMO.

The notion that innocence prevails over guilt – when there is no evidence to the contrary – is what separates civilization from barbarism.    Unfortunately, there are remains of barbarism among us.    Until very recently, it headed the PJ in Portimão. I hope he was the last one.

Interesting statement though. She says KM says checks every hour...missing for 13 hours at 10am.

On what particular dates were they re-interviewed by SY?

I stand with Putin. Glory to Mother Putin.

I can't remember.  But Yvonne Martin did send an anonymous letter, and admitted to having done so.  Probably not one of her finer moments.
She did say that she recognised David Payne from somewhere, but has never said from where.

This was not the act of a Professional.

When she intervened did they know she was an experienced child protection officer of 25 years standing or do you think they should have all just taken her word for it, this (to them) anonymous holiday maker?

I think Yvonne Martin did produce her "Credentials",  But for heaven's sake, it was early on the morning of the 4th of May.
And I do believe, from memory, that she asked Kate if Gerry was Madeleine's father.  But I need help on this one.

And believe me, Admin are not adversed to deleting my posts if my opinion offends the rules of this Forum.  As indeed, they should.

Do you mean admin should delete your posts?

Or that your opinions should offend? ...

Another interesting point.

How many off-duty social workers produce their credentials?

I have wondered about that myself.
It is possible that she carried some sort of professional registration documents in her wallet/handbag, rather in the way that you might carry a driving licence, or photo ID

How many Off Duty, British Social Workers were Holidaying somewhere near to Praia da Luz at the time?  And then hot footed to Praia da Luz by breakfast time?  To poke her nose in.  In My Opinion.

Or alternatively, in order to help.
The speed of it, though, suggests very rapid  publication of the event for a foreign holidaymaker to hear of it so early.
