I once paraphrased Karl Marx by saying television was the opium of the people in our modern society. Recently a member suggested it has limited appeal to him. I wondered what others think?

In my opinion it's enriched my life. I know a lot about the other non-human inhabitents of our planet thanks to David Attenborough and others.

My general knowledge has been improved by watching quiz programmes of all levels.

I know a lot about the British countryside thanks to Countryfile, Springwatch and Autumnwatch.

Docymentaries have given me insights into many stories and situations worldwide.

I have been entertained too, by excellent drama, live music and films
