Given the number of complaints which have come my way recently in relation to deleted posts it has been decreed that from now on any post deleted by a moderator or an editor must be reported before it is removed.  If a mod or an editor wishes to remove a post which has not already been reported they must report it before removal.

The only exceptions to this rule will be posts removed by admin staff and the senior editor.

Mods and Editors take note please.

We have rules on this forum for a very good reason.  Members are expected to abide by those rules regardless of their views and opinions.  Disruption of the forum will never be tolerated, abusive comment, goading, sniping and intolerance towards moderators and editors can only end in one sanction.

I take no pleasure in banning any member and especially anyone who could have contributed much over the years but no member is above the rules.  It states very clearly at the top of every page, 'Abuse will not be tolerated. Break the rules expect a ban!'

A pleasant bank holiday weekend to all.

Sorry to ask a question, but I don't know who the editors are. Are they also moderators or someone else? Do the rules apply to moderators also?

Happy holiday to you too!

Did you ever get a reply from this G?
Some posters 'report' to have posts removed because it is a tatic.
also mods  should NOT  have access to peoples IP or email. infact due to the 'dossier compilers' vengeful behaviour the  suppoting mods should not have any access to ay posters.

The editors are more concerned with content rather than moderation.  Apologies for not responding sooner.

Only senior staff can see IP's.  The only time your e-mail address is revealed is if you report a post.  Members concerned about this can change their e-mail address at any time in the Account Settings page.

So I still don't know who they are. Is 'editor' another name for a mod who is editing at that moment or are mods and editors completely different people?

Thanks for answering. I never report posts because of this. what about warnings and emails being sent what is that about?
Also why not name the senior editors and mods and are they the same people, how many people voted for Brietta?

I don't get a clue as to what people's IP address is, nor do I wish to.

I do get your email address if you report a post.  Frankly, I don't give a r*t's a**e about your email address (nothing personal).

And if Admin can work out a way where I simply get notified that a post is to be moderated, without my email inbox filling up, without your email address, I for one will vote for it in a heartbeat.

As no one seems to be reporting emails coming from forum moderators, is this a real issue?
What's up, old man?

I do not get access to IPs.  And since 99% of Email Addresses are made up for The Forum, and don't contain anyone's real name, I don't see what the problem is.

However, please feel free to continue being suspicious because like SiL I don't want my inbox filling up with reports either.

My Email Address is available for anyone who wants it, and does contain my name.

Sorry that I can't supply my IP, because I don't know what it is.

The editors job is to keep content relevant and orderly and to introduce new stories where appropriate.  Editors are also moderators and can undertake all moderation duties.  As senior editor I am responsible for compliance too thus I send out edicts occasionally.

The forum currently has one editor, Angelo, and one senior editor, myself.  Any mod can apply to be an editor.

I hope this helps,

John

An IP address is like your internet telephone number.  It looks like this >  86.115.82.118
This series of numbers can be traced back to source most of the time although some people use cloaking services which disguise their actual location.  We get hundreds of requests for membership every month and by checking IP addresses we can weed out most of the suspicious ones originating from mostly China and less often Africa.  Anyone can check an IP using the various services freely available on the internet, we use this one regularly. If you copy and paste the above IP address into site it will indicate the origin as being Finland.

Ones IP address could also be protected depending on the internet service provider one uses.  For example, if one uses Plusnet your IP relates to Plusnet and the location of their servers, not the users location. If someone uses a smart phone then the IP address again relates to the location of the service provider and not the end user.  Additionally, every time you use your phone to post the system generates a different IP number.

Your IP address is shown at the bottom of every post you make. It identifies your village.

Yours is  109.xxx.xxx.xxx

My IP changes every time I shut down my laptop, which is why I don't know what it is now.

I have tracked it when I had access to an Admin Panel, and it's never been closer to my home than at least 50 Kilometres.  Anyone going to Rennes won't find me.  As if I cared about that.

This is just more fuss about nothing.
