If you say that someone is helping the police with their inquiries, you mean that the police are questioning them about a crime, but have not yet charged them with it.

Why this apparent obsession with gainsaying almost every piece of trivia I post.  Particularly when you are not terribly good at it.

Whilst there is no legal requirement to give a witness statement to the police there is a moral duty on each of us to help the police with their enquiries.  https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q539.htm

Which is precisely in the context of what I posted.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

The definition I gave is taken from the dictionary, and the meaning they gave has been used for many years.

You have merely highlighted the fact the the same phrase can be used in different contexts.  I've no idea why it was important for you.

Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

I note the MET's appeal, as above, no longer appears to be available?

No which suggests it been answered and its of no consequence, no charges laid at CB's door.
