Gary O'Shea and the Sun also claim that, the McCanns have been "cleared as suspects"

Is this new speak or just O'Shea speak for talking through his arse?

The McCanns had their official arguido status removed but as far as cleared of anything is concerned that particular train has not yet left the station.  In order to clear someone of a potential crime one has to know what the crime was in the first place.  In the Madeleine case this is still unknown even now.

They need evidence first before even thinking of going there. Cleared in their dreams.
Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

I  think cleared as suspects is a good description of their status

As stated on so many occasions  arguido status can be reinstated for up to 20 years after the initial period.

Do you think that it is right that the British Press hacks are withholding information from the British public Dave?
No, they should be doing everything they can to highlight the unbalanced, xenophobic mentality that resides in PdL, and encapsulated by this grafitti - IMO.

Madeleine McCann's parents say search reinforces 'hope'

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann say the fact that recent searches found no trace of their daughter reinforces their belief she could still be alive.

Kate and Gerry McCann said they were "very pleased" at the searches over the last 10 days in Praia da Luz, Portugal.

Scotland Yard said there was still a "substantial amount of work" still to do in the investigation after three areas of land were searched.

Madeleine was three when she went missing in the Algarve resort in 2007.

Scotland Yard has said the searches, carried out with Portuguese officers and covering approximately 60,000 square metres, were the "first phase of this major investigation".

In a statement released through their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, Mr and Mrs McCann said: "We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judiciaria and the Guarda Nacional Republicana.

"We are further encouraged that despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive.

"As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of inquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with the close co-operation of the British and Portuguese authorities.

"We would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and the members of the public who have come forward with information."

British officers are believed to be flying back to the UK on Thursday, but some local residents have criticised the searches.

Waiter Fernando Pereira said the timing of the searches, at the start of the tourist season was a "nuisance".

He added: "Everyone's opinion here - and even the British people who live here - is that it's a bit too much now. The British police should just go home."

A statement from Scotland Yard on Wednesday said "more activity has been agreed" with the Portuguese police, and that this was expected to start shortly.

Police sources have previously revealed that after the land searches have been completed, Portuguese police are due to question "several suspects", who are described as "of interest" in the case.

The second search site was about 15 minutes' walk from the resort of Praia da Luz
On Wednesday police could be seen searching two other sites near Praia da Luz with sniffer dogs.

But the main focus of the land searches was on the first 15-acre site that police spent a week combing for evidence.

Scotland Yard said overall "41 ground anomalies" had been identified by both aerial surveys and ground analysis, which were then fully investigated.

As police prepared to search the second two areas, graffiti slurring the McCann family and describing British police as "stupid" was scrawled on a nearby wall overnight.

A spokesman for Mr and Mrs McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, said they declined to comment on the graffiti, which was written in large red letters in Portuguese.

Madeleine vanished in Praia Da Luz.
The Met and the PJ have centred their investigations in PDL.
There are people who the PJ have said they are going to detain for questioning and make arguidos in PDL.
The answers to Madeleine McCann's disappearance lie in PDL.

Cui bono if "The British police should just go home."?  Only the perpetrator/s of this crime who are possible still free to roam the streets of PDL.

If the residents of PDL are content with that situation they may find out their attitude will turn them back into the dusty poverty stricken place it was before Robert Murat's father took a hand in its affairs.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Do you think that it is right that the British Press hacks are withholding information from the British public Dave?

What information are you referring to?

If you mean the full content of the graffiti message, some articles have mentioned it, but have not shown the full message. The allegation about the parents is libellous, whereas the "English police are stupid" is an opinion.

Even though it is tecnically libellous to even repeat the text of the first half as an accusation, the full image in red paint is even more shocking, IMO. For once, the UK press seem to be trying to tread a fine line so as to convey the general idea that the police searches were not welcomed by some, without furthing adding to the distress of the family at this delicate time.

Some of the locals may have got the wrong impression that the entire village was going to be dug up with bulldozers. Where did they get that impression from? The reality seems to have been as discreet as possible on the part of the police, albeit with a large media presence, who have no doubt added to the local economy.

Satellite trucks may be noisy and take up space, but that seems to have been the only inconvenience. Possibly not any more inconvenient than when the roadworks were in full swing back in 2007.

I can understand that locals don't want their village to be remembered forever as the place where this little girl disappeared, but ascertaining whether or not she could have been killed and buried there, finally finding who was responsible and bringing that person (or people) to justice would surely help them to move on. In the meantime, a little girl is still missing.

It may well be that the press reported the moans as soundbites, as opposed to giving the fuller context of a conversation in which some may have also expressed empathy. I hope that, aside from the odd nutter, that this is the case. Otherwise, IMO, the reactions don't convey a particularly flattering image of the resort.

I wonder whether the mayor approves of the placard-carrying, spray-painting image?

True, however, there is by some of the local population some degree of resentment.
The root reason IMO: bad logic by investigators.
IMO both Mr Amaral's PJ/UK team, and the SY 2014 team, work from assumptions which seem to me dubious at best, like the assumption of what the time window is for exit, and the assumption that unconcealed carrying ever happens in these cases.
BTW at sky news looks like there is nothing about this case on Friday UK front pages

The case was just being discussed on Nick Ferrari's program on LBC.

Dan Hodges of the Telegraph said there's no evidence she was abducted.

John O'Connor, ex-met, said she was, but couldn't state any evidence for it. Just supported Redwood.

Dan Hodges also stated why isn't money being spent on other missing people cases.

I'm sure the Hodges will now be attacked by the mccann trolls.

P.S. Good to hear a journalist at last who stands up to the mccann bandwagon.
