According to the lawyer, Portuguese justice cleared him from all suspicions related to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, therefore he could not be summoned again over the same reasons.

So where does that leave Luz and her assertion that once an arguido, you remain a prime suspect until you've been cleared by a court of law?

What seems far more likely to me is that a legal objection was raised about answering the same questions all over again when his arguido status had already been lifted. It may be that some were the same (possibly an admin screw-up), without any explanation as to what potentially new information could justify them, but others may not be and are therefore retained.

A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

Murat was not cleared by court of law, this is cheap shot from his lawyer shot down by Police immediately so he appeared the next day.

To get cleared by court of law there has to be due process
or trial, jury etc this was not case with Murat and other arguidos.

There is a difference between being cleared of suspicion and being cleared in a court of law of whatever charges have been brought against you, do you not agree?

Listen stop here you are on wrong track.

There was no charges filed against Robert Murat in court he was released, charges were not droped because there were no charges  only status changed.  If it was different he would have enjoyed his villa today instead of standing for interview.

As as I'm aware, his status hasn't changed, either. He's due to be interviewed as a witness, I believe. It's not clear what the legal issue actually was, if indeed there ever was one.

"oversaw the investigation into the murder of Tia Sharp"

Presumably new boss has learnt from experience to never allow an investigation to head in wrong direction because of a sighting which may well turn out to be irrelevant.

Period of witness questioning in the Maddie case is extended

Hearings of Murat's wife used up all of Thursday's work time.

The chief inspector who is going to be responsible for the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in 2007 arrived this Thursday at the Polícia Judiciária's building in Faro, at a time when questioning of the witnesses has been extended until Friday.

The inspector who takes over the new job on the 22nd of December, Nicola Wall from the Metropolitan Police Service, arrived at the PJ in Faro at 09h25, sided by chief inspector Andy redwood who has been responsible for the British investigation over the last three and a half years and leaves the investigation due to his retirement. None of the inspectors made any comment to the journalists.

The questioning in the Algarve of 10 of the 11 witnesses that have been summoned by the British investigators started on Tuesday and were supposed to end this Thursday, but the hearing of the wife of Murat, a man who has been pointed out several times as possibly being involved in the little girl's disappearance, took up all of the work time on Wednesday.

Maddie disappeared in 2007

Therefore the questioning of Robert Murat was scheduled for Friday.

The investigation focuses on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann on the 3rd of May of 2007 when she was sleeping with her younger siblings in a bedroom in an apartment at a tourist resort in Praia da Luz, Algarve.

2. PHONECALLS BETWEEN MURAT AND MALINKA
The police were understood to have taken in for questioning Sergey Malinka, 22, a man of Russian origin, from whose property officers also took away a laptop computer and two hard drives. Malinka had set up a website for Murat and the two exchanged frequent phone calls since Madeleine's disappearance — the reason the authorities started suspecting him.[41][42]

Malinka denied he had contacted Murat, and said he was "completely innocent".[44] Inconsistencies in his account of his relationship with Robert Murat emerged: he had said he had not contacted Murat in a year but Murat’s mobile phone records allegedly show he called Mr Malinka at 23:40 on the night Madeleine went missing.[45][46]

This means eight witnesses saw Murat near the apartment that night and 'blows to bits' Murat's alibi that he was at his mother's house the entire night Madeleiene went missing.

Madeleine || Met extends time for Madeleine questioning as Murat’s wife grilled “exhaustively”

It was another busy day in Faro yesterday as Met detectives reconvened for a new round of witness questioning in the inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

But this time, there were no punches thrown at newsmen, nor bottles of water hurled in disgust. Nonetheless the bottom line is that time allotted has been extended after the questioning of Robert Murat’s partner Michaela took a lot longer than expected.

According to Portuguese newspapers, Michaela Walczuch was grilled for a full eight hours. This meant that her husband, present in Faro throughout, will now face police on Friday - the day originally set aside for a meeting with PJ counterparts.

Today, it is the turn of Ocean Club managers John and Donna Hill and another Portuguese man - all of whom have been questioned in the past.

Meantime in Lisbon, the defamation trial of Gonçalo Amaral resumed - with final arguments presented by lawyers representing Kate and Gerry McCann.

The couple lodged a civil action against the former PJ detective, alleging defamation. It is a trial that has taken almost five years to reach this stage - and yesterday those reporting from the courtroom learned it could take until March to be settled.

Intriguingly, lawyers representing TVI and Amaral’s publishers Guerra e Paz remarked at the absence of journalists in the courtroom and the “repeated and convenient visits by Scotland Yard” “whenever there is a trial in session” to “deviate attention”.

While bystanders in Lisbon reported that the day had gone “very well”, British newspapers highlighted the “fortune” made by Amaral as a result of the publishing of his controversial book, “The Truth of the Lie” - the book to which the McCanns have so objected.

According to the Daily Mail, the lawyer representing Kate and Gerry McCann claims Amaral earned “at least €344,000” from the book and subsequent TV documentary.

The McCanns are suing Amaral for a reported €1.2 million, having explained to the trial in July that they felt “devastated and crushed” by the book in which Amaral presented the theory that Madeleine died by accident in the family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

The people who actually knew him have said that he wasn't, though.
