From that newspaper article

Easy to dismiss such claims as Looney Tunes
I am impressed by this well-researched detailed and scientific refutation of cadaver scent detection by dogs.

(ETA:  hoping the U.S. don't run their new sarcasm-detection software on my post as it may overload it)

Sun sets on week-long search for Madeleine McCann by British police

Locals come to terms with invasion of journalists and further disruption as detectives' investigation moves to new area.

British police working in the cordoned-off area in Praia da Luz.
They uncovered a hidden shaft and what appeared to be a makeshift grave.

It began with British detectives on all fours scouring a hilly stretch of scrubland on the Algarve coast. But as the sun set on the first week of searches in Praia da Luz, the air of hopeful anticipation collapsed into acrimony as the parents of Madeleine McCann were forced yet again to plead for calm.

Police officers on Sunday night packed up and left a six-hectare (15-acre) site where they had focused their operations over the previous week. On Wednesday they will start again on two new areas near a campsite in the Portuguese village where Madeleine was last seen alive seven years ago.

Gonçalo Amaral: "There was no assault in that house"

Gonçalo Amaral spoke of "fake and staged" referring to the current theory being pursued by the British police in the Maddie case.  Speaking on CMTV, the former Judiciary Police coordinator believes that the idea of there being a "thief who was frightened by the child" is a scenario created solely for the media.

The former coordinator of the PJ justified his argument by stating that, "...there wasn't missing a TV, a camera or money. It is a ploy to make us forget what exists."

Maddie Case: return to 'hiding'

The British police again took up the picks to excavate an area near the hideout found earlier in the week. The hole, about three feet deep, had been the target of intense searching. It is there that believe that Maddie is or has been buried. Plastics and other buried objects led forensic experts to return to the site. The battalion of police and forensic experts started work early.

The top commander of operations, Andy Redwood, was keen to take the land all his notes and documentation, at a time that is approaching the end of the first search phase. In a race against time, the British police again used probes to analyze the underground for quite area near the street April 25 and a few meters of various building blocks. Are being analyzed the latest areas where researchers believe they may have been moved and can hide some clues about Maddie. The sixth straight day of searching some fatigue was evident by the inspectors, while camcorders continue to monitor in detail the work.

The mount of land being searched is clearly see on the left of this picture and is a landmark in Praia da Luz. In the top right hand corner is the complex the McCanns stayed in in 2007

Oh please! For what? To play Agatha Christie?
Policing is somehow different nowadays..

As for the 'a thief not taking anything of a value'.. which petty thief would look for valuables if he's just accidentally killed a child?

I say.. use your brain cells Mr Amaral..

the beeb has new info seems the "three suspects" have grown in number

The pause in proceedings came after Portuguese police announced "several suspects" were likely to be interviewed in the "very near future".

UK police had already asked authorities if they could speak to three "people of interest", the BBC understands. But Portuguese police sources now say more than three people will be interviewed by them in the coming weeks.

British officers will be allowed to sit in, but cannot intervene in proceedings, Portuguese officials have said.

Agreed.  I would be amazed if they haven’t already re-interviewed key witnesses including the Drs McCann and the friends they holidayed with.

They managed to find and eliminate Tannerman from the inquiry and have obviously gone through the files with a fine tooth comb to tie in existing evidence such as triangulating the phone signals.

Despite NSY and the PJ investigating leads which very obviously do not point to them ... why this desperation on the part of some that the Tapas group are somehow involved in the present inquiry?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If they find that corroborating evidence that they're looking for everything will change.

Does Redwood or any of his team understand fluent Portuguese because I don't see what possible benefit they would gain from sitting in on these interviews. It gets worse by the day imo.
