PC Collins speaks with Jeremy Bamber on arrival at the farm and asks him about the .22 rifle.

JB "I left it in the kitchen with possibly ten rounds in it"

I don't find this a realistic possibility at all, rather, Jeremy was setting the scene in order to blame Sheila.  Even if he had left the loaded rifle out I have no doubt Nevill would have had kittens and would have put it away given there were children in the house.


From page 2 above...

PC Collins "On looking around the kitchen I saw upturned chairs and stools and broken crockery on the floor..."

As PC Collins was in the lead team that seems to put to bed the claim that it was the police who did this damage.
