There is no misunderstanding, the McCanns knew very well that they would never be forced to return as long as their pals refused to cooperate.  It doesn't take much to work the rest out.

They had the opportunity to keep the investigation alive but failed to do so.   Very strange behaviour for parents who claim to have done everything they can to find their missing child.

Precisely.

The mccanns knew exactly what they were doing.

Let's not forget either, they hired a lawyer 'well known' for clients trying to avoid extradition.

The AG did not blame them. He blamed the Tapas 7.

You are wrong.

Why not just admit it- the AG did not say the McCanns had failed to prove their innocence.

He said that the were denied the opportunity to do so.

Now you are free to believe that the McCanns relied on their friend's decisions to avoid returning.

But

You said it and the AG did not.

The AG inferred it and that is very obvious.  Does Kate McCanns refusal to answer most of the questions asked of her not strike you as odd?   The mother of a missing child, a child who was supposed to have been abducted and all she was concerned about was what her parents and friends back home would think.  A parent whose partner was contemplating fleeing the country to avoid the rammifcations of the police investigation.  A parent who could have at any time asked the AG to continue with the investigation but stayed silent.

doesn't strike me as odd...the PJ had lied to them and the McCanns felt they were being set up......simple

Not the case.

He neither inferred nor implied anything like that.

He clearly blamed the Tapas 7.

It is only your bias that allows you to misinterpret his words so.

Nah.

There was no excuse for not returning.

Besides don't forget the string of lawyers. 8(0(*

Set up?   Pull the other one.   Their insecurities lay with their own conduct.   They failed their child and looked for someone else to blame, that is where the truth lies.

In your humble opinion of course.

There is quite a possibility that you are mistaken on each account.

amaral has admitted he didn't just suspect the parents but was convinced they were guilty...he claims the rest of the PJ supported him....problem was they didn't have the evidence....but never mind...just accuse them anyway and don't bother looking anywhere else...that's where the truth lies....

Mr Amaral has recently been criticised for denying the McCanns the right to the presumption of innocence, I'm not quite sure where his beliefs might have taken him given the chance, in his eagerness to solve the case.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

If the McCanns had wanted the T7 to attend they had plenty of leverage to ensure they did. Can you imagine the headlines "McCann friends refuse to help in search for Madeleine"

That may be the case.

But the AG did not say that the McCanns had refused prove their innocence but said that they had been denied the chance to do so.

Possibly. But the AG did not say that the McCanns had failed to prove their innocence.

They wrote agreeing to return. Employing lawyers is normal for people falsely accused.
