So where does that leave his supporters who have spent years giving out the link to his 'illegally'  translated book  - encouraging and enabling potentially millions of people on the internet to 'illegally' read it for free and so depriving him of  income from it?

He's obviously not at all happy with those actions by his own supporters.

How sad.  Too bad.  Tis done now.

It would be ironic if he had to sue all those generous donators to the GFM appeal who quoted from his book in the comments section.

so if I call someone on here liar...without evidence to support it...you will back me 100%.
no you won't...because you only believe in freedom of speech when it suits you...more freedom of hypocrisy

It doesn't matter how you see the judgement or what you think Amaral did wrong. The opinions that count are those of the Appeal Court judges and they overturned the judgement of the lower court judge.

I'm not too sure how much profit remains to be made from it unless he intends to amend it to bring it into line with some semblance of reality ... shouldn't be too much of a problem for him.
Apparently last time round he seemed to be able to write it and have it printed in the couple of days between the archiving of Madeleine's case and the book signing.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

That might be fun.

But it won't be.

Why ever not. It would be a smooth move. The Brits will then have to pay all the court costs and the Brits cannot scream foul at the result. Job's a goodun

Are you being serious?   What would you have said if they had said to the public  'don't leave your children alone'.  Would you and all other sceptics be praising them for doing that -  or pointing out that you didn't need that advice in the first place and what a damn cheek they had for suggesting that you did?   Do tell.

After knowing what happened to Madeleine, any parent with reasonable intelligence could work it out for themselves that leaving children alone on holiday posed dangers which they may not have previously considered.

Prior to Madeleine's case  -the last child to be abducted abroad was Ben Needham 16 years before.   I doubt if that was uppermost in the McCanns or any other  holidaymakers minds when they were deciding what childcare arrangements they were going to make whilst they went for their evening meal.

Those parents who ignored what happened to Madeleine and continued to sign on to listening services and use baby alarms whilst on holiday are far more deserving of criticism that the McCanns ever were IMO.

Children under 5 should never be left home alone.

No Evidence.  Let alone Proof.

I don't think you will find many who disagree with you ~ particularly not the McCanns.  But on the occasion of this triumph for the freedom of expression in Portugal it is worth bearing in mind that a little girl remains a missing person and her parents are still looking for her.

As already posted ...

**snip
We will continue to defend ourselves against this libel and the search for our daughter. We will be appealing to the Portuguese Supreme Court.

Madeleine is still missing and we will do everything we can to get her home.

Thank you for your continued support.

Lace's post (to which you reply) is entirely factual.

If Amaral had kept his accusations confined to the process where he was fully entitled to make them, there would have been no action by the McCanns; indeed, no basis for them to bring an action.

And if Amaral had respected the rules of confidentiality imposed upon him by his position, (as Rebelo, largely, managed to do) the same.

Amaral abused his position, breached laws of secrecy to which he was subject and accused without foundation.

Those are the facts ...

I have revisited Lace's post and highlighted why her 'facts' need supporting.

In reply to your 'facts'; the Appeal Court did not take the view that a retired police officer was bound by the laws of secrecy. Until another judgement is made that is no longer a fact. They thought there was no problem with him having a theory based on the facts of the investigation, or with him publishing his theory in his book.

It doesn't stray from the fact that Amaral started the hostility towards the McCann's, [Cite that he started it?] that he was writing his book whilst still a Police Officer, [Retired] that details were leaked which shouldn't have been under Portuguese strict confidentiality law [Cite that it was him wot did it]and that he lied in his book about the DNA and the fact the McCann's drugged their daughter. [Part of his theory?]  We'll see.

Stating incorrect DNA results cannot be deemed to be a Thesis.

An update from the OFM website ( not yet on their Facebook page )

Updates

19 April, 2016 - Statement from Gerry and Kate Regarding Libel Case

We are disappointed with today’s ruling from the Portuguese Appellate Court. As we have said in the past, this action has never been about money. It has always been focused on the effects of the libels on our other children and the damage that has been done to the search for Madeleine.

We will continue to defend ourselves against this libel and the search for our daughter. We will be appealing to the Portuguese Supreme Court.

Madeleine is still missing and we will do everything we can to get her home.

Thank you for your continued support.

Was not about the money !!! Have they no shame ?

'
We will continue to defend ourselves against this libel and the search for our daughter. We will be appealing to the Portuguese Supreme Court.'  Does this make any sense ?

Their claims for recompense for the effects of the libels on their other children and for the damage that has been done to the search for Madeleine were rejected by the lower court.

Did they ever read and understand that judgement? Perhaps they should because they seem to have either misunderstood it or been misinformed as to why they were awarded damages.

Spending yet more money on an appeal is surely inadvisable unless they understand why they won in the first court and why the judgement was overturned on appeal.

Unless they fully understand their position it may well end up being about money when they are asked to pay what they could end up owing for the costs relating to the overturned injunction, the costs of the two hearings so far, and, possibly, the costs of a Supreme Court appeal if they lose again.
