Please don't twist my words again, Stephen.  It's a very stupid thing to do.
I am not twisting your words Eleanor.

What do you honestly think the mccanns would do if the mccanns have to pay costs of all the parties involved, which they have to do at present, according to the latest judgement ?

I have it on good authority the appeal will go ahead

Of course it will.

Personally, I think that The Portuguese Judiciary is playing to the gallery.

So who thinks The McCanns would pay up just because they are honourably people.
I do not think they will pay up for that reason.

Mainly as, who would? They say the guy has ruined their lives, surely they will dig in their heels before paying anything. I know I wouldn't be happy about paying anything TO someone I was trying to sue..and if there was a way to get out of it I would. As would, I imagine a lot of others, including the McCanns.

That is if it goes to the Supreme Court.

Have you read up on civil  cases and the Portuguese Supreme Court ?

More to the point, what would happen if they didn't and then travelled abroad in the EU ?

Could they subject to a European Arrest Warrant ?

No
A EAW would be valid in the Uk but I'm sure you knew that anyway

They would be stopped on their travels once their papers were scanned
and an outstanding huge debt in Portugal would show up.

Could that apply in a civil case, or would refusal to pay money owing to a court become a criminal offence?

I wish I could give a precise answer on that.

We would need someone with precise knowledge of  European, British and Portuguese Law for that.

However, if they lose any further judgement, assuming it goes that far, if they don't pay, what would the consequences be ?

Yes you were twisting my words.  Stephen.

I have absolutely no doubt that The McCanns would pay up if they ultimately lose.  I have no idea of whether or not they will lose.
I sincerely hope that they don't.  But I have never seen anything to suggest that they are not honourable people.
