So what kind of grade at uni does a thesis without any proof to back up arguments get?

Of course. The proof as far as I can tell either way is not strong. Though no-one has published such a thesis yet. Unless you count Kate's book which isn't prone to libelling anyone though imo..

I do actually wonder when the mccanns fail with their bid to the Supreme Court, presuming an appeal is made or even accepted, the support mantra will continue.

It's not mantra on my part and I'm not a supporter per se. I feel strongly that someone should be able to challenge someone else if they are making slurs upon their name without convincing proof...

You say when they fail... do you think? It's a high profile case, seems to me a bid may have a good chance of being accepted...

I will continue to support the McCanns because the evidence supports their  innocence

One or two are likely to go into total meltdown, so it might be a good time to take a short break

So on what grounds could they appeal ?

The judgement was based on the following of Portuguese Law.

Likewise appeals to the Supreme Court are not automatic.

Feeling tetchy this afternoon?

No.  Just feeling the weight of being a Senior Moderator.  Which I should have done some time ago.

I think we need to wait and see.

I feel they will appeal as otherwise their route to the ECHR is blocked.
It may be all bravado, of course and they may make no such appeal.

IMO there will be no application to appeal to the supreme court.
Instead action will probably already be underway under UK law to try to prevent UK publication IMO.
And a few polite letters like:
"Dear William H, You've always been respected over your long history for your wise very cautious choices of what books to sell therefore we obviously have every expectation that ........... . Cheers, A"
