LOL, so am I... it's a tricky one, not easy to answer but I would say if you're allowed to write a best-selling book in which you accuse someone who is technically innocent of serious crimes, thereby potentially harming their home and professional lives and general well-being, then in theory you should be allowed to verbally accuse and abuse anyone on the basis of anything at all, including race, sexuality, religion.  Can you do so in Portugal?  I'm not sure....

Who did that ?
One cannot be "technically innocent". One is either innocent full stop. Guilty full stop or "guilty in the eyes of the law".

An interesting tidbit considering some commentators were referring to Portugal as bordering on facisim regarding the latest ruling. Portugal is regarded as one of the 10 countries which is truly at peace. Here's a quote from wiki taken from the GPI(global peace index):

The GPI currently indicates Iceland, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, and New Zealand to be the most peaceful countries and Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Central African Republic and Iraq to be the least peaceful.

Another interesting fact about Portugal is it has decriminalised all drugs and treats addicts as patients rather then criminals - very forward thinking imo. Does beg the question who is the most grown up - the UK or Portugal?

It is because Portugal, like several others, USED to be a fascist state decades ago, (it was the fashion then) and the people revolted, that they value thngs like free speech fiercely and rightly so.  To call them a fascist state  is therefore, a bit like schizophrenic  thinking if you see what I mean

The people here with views that Portugal is fascist (when it plainly isnt)  because they didnt like the appeal court ruling could be argued a fascist view, what dyou reckon?

Ps there are according to wiki no recognised fascist countries anymore

You seem to have this thing for  'elites'.

Apart from your opinion, can you back it up with cites ?

Likewise, this constant repetition of the words 'fascist or fascism' by some mccann supporters, is not only pathetic, it is also xenophobic.

I think there is no doubt fascist elements still exist within the police force

There are fascists in most countries, so your point is ?

Perhaps you should criticize those in this country dave, before having a go at other countries.

Not to the extent of in PT.

Why introduce this country Stephen?

How do you know there aren't more fascists in the UK than Portugal ?

Perhaps you can cite the proof of there being more in Portugal.

Do the Portuguese have the National Front, the E.D.L., the B.N.P.,  etc.  ?

Yeah well I am with Harry Lime on the topic of totalitarianism.
For those unfamiliar with the view:
"Don't be so gloomy. After all it's not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The bloody cuckoo clock".

Don't forget the Swiss Bank Accounts either.

Perhaps including those of some of the fascists, Sadie and others are fond of talking about.

But they are not in positions of authority as appears to be the case in PT.

You know absolutely NOTHING about Portugal or fascism as it is. Just because you did not agree with a court decision you have decided that Portugal is fascist!! Incredible.

At least in Portugal, when a policeman commits a crime, things are not buried in an internal investigation. There is a criminal investigation and if charged the case goes to a criminal court.

Maybe its switzerlands answer to the rest of the world, youre all cuckoo with your wars death destruction etc etc

Well, I think a countrys political state might have little to do with its output

The uk has been stable and at peace internally for centuries and we have a very long list of inventors, designers, other great cultural figures

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

yes  commits  acrime ...found guilty...suspended sentence and back at work monday as though nothing had happened....could you tell us again how many people convicted of a serious crime in portugal has managed a sucessful appeal...none according to your last answer...the police and judges are never wrong and tahts the remnants of fascism

Which doesnt negate their being charged and sentenced, even if suspended, its out there, in the uk alot get away, no charges, and the ones that do get taken to court, often let off, so no different next
