Daniel Morcombe is not missing.  He is,sadly, dead.  His abductor and murderer is in jail.  Cannot be compared to the Madeleine case where her parents are still looking for her because she could be alive.

The Morcombe parents, incidentally, are highly supportive of ther McCann parents.

The Daniel Morecombe Foundation was set up before Daniel's body was found and while the search for him was still taking place.

As to the Morecombe's supporting the McCanns as far as they are aware the McCanns have a child missing, why wouldn't they be supportive ?

Correction.  The accused in the Morcombe case is in custody on remand.  He has been committed to stand trial for Daniel's abduction and murder, but the trial has not yet been listed.

She is still missing, so that would to be seem a reasonable stance in the absence of any proof to the contrary for anyone, wouldn't it?

'Cannot be compared to the Madeleine case where her parents are still look'ing for her because she could be alive.'

By their own admission they are not 'looking' for her, they are relying on SY.

On that point, why haven't they donated the revenues from the book, serialization and the fund to this 'search' ?

I think it is very distasteful to show how parents of a child abducted and murdered use the fund of that child to try and prove a point on this forum.

It is almost as bad as 'This is how parents of an abducted child should grieve'.

Why should they?  They are British taxpayers  - no different to the parents of April Jones.  Surely you would not expect April's parents to contribute to the cost of the search for their daughter (estimated at around £3m) with money from their fund?   It would be a very spiteful person who did think they should IMO.

IMO The McCanns and SY came to a mutual decision that it would be more helpful for them NOT to continue their search at the same level as before during the review - in order to avoid duplication and possible confusion.

The McCanns chose to put hundreds of thousands of £s of their own money into Madeleine's fund which they didn't have to  - and have also raised over £50,000 for charity - and yet you still try to demonise them Stephen.     That makes no sense to me - as it is devoid of all logic.

If you read the sentence again Anne you will see I started it with ''IMO''.   However, common sense dictates that to have two completely separate sets of investigators both working on the same case at the same time could well lead to duplication and confusion.    IIRC The McCanns did say something along those lines at the time.

And I find it distasteful the family of a missing child using the money donated to find her to salvage their personal reputation.

What a cheap shot.  Their reputations have been dragged through the mud.  Why should they have to put up with that?  And don't forget that they have added over a million to the fund themselves from libel payouts and book revenue.

Don't forget the million Mr Amaral might have got was from selling books in Portuguese. Portuguese people, curious to know what really happened in the first part of the investigation, bought this book. The book in foreign languages is far from having made a lot of money. 4 thousand copies in French (I don't know how many sold).
Don't forget you read Mr Amaral's book because someone generously translated it into English.
Don't forget that Mr Amaral didn't oppose to downloads of his book whereas Mrs McCann made sure hers wouldn't be.

Is there anything tasteful about dragging a different family's tragedy into the arguments over the McCann case?

I am simply using the Morecombe case to illustrate how much good can be done when donated money is used appropriately. Nothing tasteless in that.

And you're right to do it, Faithlilly. One thing is losing a child - and nobody will deny there's nothing worst -, another is the use you make of the money gathered around and about this drama.

You are right Anne, looking for her is what the parents never did.
They looked for money, and still do today at this Lisbon Court, they looked for fame, they looked for recognition,...but they never raised their butts to look for HER.

Bless you poor little Madeleine.

"The family stands to gain £1 million in damages."

Reassuring to see that they haven't missed the chance to garner a bit more dosh.

It's all about money,

and, how much of the revenue from the book sales and serialization rights has been given to the SY investigation ?

I suggest the answer to that is well known.

Indeed they are.

However, their supporters will then claim it's just the 'trolls' again.

So predictable.

It doesn't occur to them that many people just don't believe them, or are sick of the case, etc.

The McCanns left their children in danger, on more than one occasion, but expect and enjoy media coverage and universal sympathy.

The Philpotts went to prison.

I'm out for the rest of the day, so I'm afraid that I won't see any shouty, spittle-flecked responses to this.

So putting hundreds of thousands of pounds into the Fund when they could have put it into their own private bank accounts, and raising over £50,000 to help find missing people makes them ''money grabbing'' does it?.   If there is a single scrap of logic in that claim I would really like someone to point out where it is.

The MCCANNS PROMISED full and transparent accounts, which they have failed to do.

They also promised to use the money to find Madeleine and have failed to show they have done that.

Even if they have spent every penny of the circa 6m and maybe more garnered on the *search* (which isnt even true and Gerry Mccann alledging the vast majority of it has gone on direct search fees,)  it has got them nowhere...thats without including 6m spent by the UK, 2m by the Portuguese initial investigation, worldwide ongoing coverage, countless PIs, facebook campaign, appeals, documentaries,  book writings, and on and on.....unprecedented, and probably a big fictitious con

Oh and btw there was never any evidence elizabeth smart was abducted!! Nor any evidence that a stranger killed Jonbenet Ramsey!

The Fund is a Limited Company directed by the McCann couple, an uncle and friends, it's more secure than a bank account.

Until the last financial report the use of the monies were for everything but looking for Madeleine.

Its as simple as this.  They gagged Amaral and this was overturned on appeal.  They have got lawyers to pay who have been working on the basis that they will get paid out of winnings.  Ergo the need to sue everyone.

This action in Lisbon has nothing to do with Madeleine and everything to do with Carter Ruck.

You weren't here, so you didn't see how much they didn't look. Going around the pool, as Gerald did to disguise, is not searching. Why didn't they follow the groups that were all over the village most of the nigh and chose to get out of the apartment at around 5:30 in the morning to go towards the beach passing by the church?

Are you saying that only people who were there are allowed to make comments on the case?   Are you being serious?

The advice of the police in cases of missing children is always  - ''Stay at home'' - in case the child returns and so that the police can easily contact the parents if they need to.   However after the first 24 hours in this case the parents would have been mobbed by reporters had they attempted to walk around PdL with other people.  And anyway most of the first 24 hours was spent talking to the police at 5A - or talking to the police at the police station.   In between those times, they went out searching for their child.

Just as with their decision to adopt the Listening method of checking on their chidren, where sceptics talk as if they were the only parents ever to do that - when it was a commonly practised by thousands of other parents on holiday, you also talk as if the McCanns were the only parents of a missing who did not spend their whole time out searching.   This is not true - I can think of at least 2 cases where the parents did not search,  One of them even said that she could not do it, because she was frightened of what she might find.  Her 3yr old son was never found.  They have never been criticised for it.

And if you really think that people who have just been plunged into the worst nightmare of every parent, thousands of miles away from home would NOT want to turn to their families and loved ones at such a traumatic time then I am very surprised.    It seems the most natural thing in the world to me.

And btw just to dispel another piece of misinformation - priests in this country provide pastoral care for any of their flock on a personal level as and when it's needed.    The dont just get called in when someone dies which I believe is the case in Portugal.

I notice you haven't commented  on the fact that it was the PJ who first released a full description of Madeleine mentioning her eye marking on the 5th May.
