As Luz has already pointed out in another thread, the PJ were unable to connect Malinka to any wrongdoing. They searched his apartment on several occasions and even listened in on his telephone conversations which are available as part of the PJ files.

How did Malinka find out the police were going to his place to question him in connection with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann? If he didn't have anything to hide why did he wipe clean the files on his computer? As a matter of record for anyone to verify, Sergey Malinka telephoned former suspect in the case Robert Murat on or about 10:30 pm on May 3, 2007 - just some 30 minutes after Madeleine McCann went missing. Phone records show that both men were in continuous contact during the crucial hours after her disappearance.

The girls mentioned that Malinka's name had been removed from the main article on Wikipedia but I have enough knowledge of the site to retrieve it. Here it is...
The police were understood to have taken in for questioning Sergey Malinka, 22, a man of Russian origin, from whose property officers also took away a laptop computer and two hard drives. Malinka had set up a website for Murat and the two exchanged frequent phone calls since Madeleine's disappearance – the reason the authorities started suspecting him. Chief Inspector Olegário de Sousa reiterated there was insufficient evidence to make any arrests. Police said that Malinka had been questioned as a witness for approximately five hours, which did not, having regard to the "dynamic" nature of the investigation, mean that he could not become a suspect.
Malinka spoke negatively of the coverage of the case in the Portuguese media, which had alleged that he was a convicted sexual offender. He denied he had contacted Murat, and said he was "completely innocent". Inconsistencies in his account of his relationship with Robert Murat emerged: he had said <!-- To the police? To Sky News? -->he had not contacted Murat in a year but Murat’s mobile phone records allegedly show he called Malinka at 23:40 on the night Madeleine vanished. Following accusations in the media the McCanns, their friends, and Robert Murat instigated libel actions. The Daily Express and the Daily Star published front-page apologies and agreed to pay the McCanns £550,000 in libel damages. Malinka knows Robert Murat.

That's what coincidence is. Wasn't there a similar one in that O'Brien and some other guests lived within a few street of each other in Exeter, and of course also Murat had Exeter connections.

if im not mistaken murats sister lived in Exeter...not sure about O'Brien

O'Brien had moved to Exeter some months earlier, to take up a Consultant position at the local hospital.

Dr O'Brien lived in Leicestershire, near the McCanns, before moving to set up home in Exeter with his partner Jane Tanner. He works at the Peninsula Medical School at the University of Plymouth's Exeter campus.

I removed a post alleging that the yacht "Naomi Corlett" and Malinka were in some way involved in Madeleine's disappearance. This is untrue.
For those who haven't already heard the story I reproduce an e-mail below which originated from the yachts owner Frank Corlett.
Hallo Steve, The "blog" that is presently on the internet originates from the fact that we live near Praia da Luz, my daughter is the press correspondence and translator for Sky News, and also is the mother of my grand-daughter Naomi Corlett. When we first discovered this ridiculous association with this unfortunate mystery, we contacted our lawyers, who immediately had the Daily Mail remove the "blogs" from their notice board; however the lunatic that has come up with this present theory is untrackable, he is apparently well known in the journalist's world, and considered a "crackpot", I talked with our lawyers once again over this situation and they explained that to trace this "lunatic theorists" would cost considerable money, and result in nothing, they advised that eventually it would disappear. At the time of the unfortunate mystery (as we who are conversant with the case refer to it) the R/S. Naomi Corlett had been in Africa for two years, and was at the very time of the "disapearance" the ship was at the use of the President of The Gambia and an American diving syndicate. The article would only be of interest to people with no logic or common sense, the logistics involved plus the costs involved are extremely high, a ship of this size costs in the region of £2,000 per day to operate. However, back to the real world; I can create a position for a project manager for expeditions, we have the ships, equipment and accommadtion in places that no one can access, we want to carry out studies in marine biology / archeology, and bio-diversity, we are going to re-build the forteleza that we own and organise an archeological dig in the grounds, and last but not least we are going to 'retrace' the slave run from the whole of the West African coast to Brazil, the Caribbean, the US and Europe; if you have any colleages interested in this position, feel free to inform or contact.

Kate and Gerry McCann's hopes of being quickly cleared as suspects in their daughter's disappearance appeared to suffer a setback yesterday.
It emerged that Portuguese police want to question them again.
Detectives are preparing to return to Britain next week to speak to the couple and other members of the "Tapas Nine" who dined together on the night Madeleine vanished.
One line of questioning could be a coincidence - dubbed the Exeter Connection - linking suspect Robert Murat, 34, a British expat living in the village where the little girl vanished, to two of the nine.
