Title: SY and PJ had case meeting in Lisbon on 17/10 - McCanns joined them for briefing afterwards.

The Met have released a new statement via their website. It seems the AC and DCI met with senior figures in the PJ on 17 October to discuss the new lines of inquiry, and Kate and Gerry were also invited and briefed in Lisbon.

But of course, that's just lulling the parents into a false sense of security, right? Tick tock!  8-)(--)

FANTASTIC
Assistance Commander Mark Rowley, Specialist Crime and Operations, said: "The meeting was very positive, and we and the Policia Judiciara have a shared determination to do everything possible to discover what happened to Madeleine.

The McCanns were not permitted access to the police meeting and were only briefed at the end.   8(0(*

Another step forward, interesting that it was the new evidence uncovered by the PJ which was the reason for the meeting in Lisbon.

Interesting to note that the CPS went to Portugal earlier this year, which can only mean they were reviewing evidence for a potential prosecution, of whom we know not.

Both institutions need some kind of final resolution, to use the words of the MP before shelving the case.

Actually, it doesn't 'only mean' that the CPS are looking to prosecute anybody. They have more than one role (despite their name).

Which is?

Wiki entry

The Crown Prosecution Service is responsible for criminal cases beyond the investigation, which is the role of the police. This involves giving advice to the police on charges to bring, being responsible for authorising all but a very few simple charges (such as begging), and preparing and presenting cases for court, both in magistrates' courts and, increasingly, the Crown Court.

"This is a welcome development, but both sides of the investigation are at relatively early stages, with much work remaining to be done. This new momentum is encouraging, but we still have a way to go, and as with all major investigations, not all lines of enquiry that look promising will yield results."

I believe that we can expect a long period of silence with no play by play accouts of the investigation and when the police arrive at the final result we will be informed. That is how the investigation should have been done in Portugal after 3 May 2007 but Praia da Luz was invaded by the press at the invitation of the McCanns and the Ambassador showed up conditioning the diligences of the PJ. Furthermore, the PJ was forced to provide routine press statements which is not something that is done here. It became a real circus damaging the investigation. One example was that the British Ambassador intervened preventing the PJ from processing the parents clothes from the night of Maddie's disappearance!!!

May I politely remind you of this forum rule:

And may I ask where are the relevant links to the material you have posted concerning the Ambassador?

Out of curiosity, why do people who believe the McCanns are still suspects think that the PJ invited them to Lisbon to update them on their progress and plans? Double bluff?  @)(++(*

I heard a rumour via lurking on a fb page posted by a Portuguese member who'd seen it on the news last night. On CMTV I believe.

Considering how vague those sources are, I'm sure you'll understand why I didn't repeat them  8)-)))

Dunno so much.

The CPS were involved in the initial investigation that exonerated the McCanns.  But there were no prosecutions.
