"My kid has just been sexually assualted, should I call the police?"
"Nah don't worry about it. She'll get over it."
From this can I safely assume that you are suggesting that an abused child will tell their parents what has taken place?
Even when in most cases the victims never tell of the abuse they suffer and this is why cases like Stuart Hall and Jimmy Savile have taken so long to be investigated. It's a rather flippant comment that you have made, I do understand you have done it in what you believe is comic effect but alas I think it's in very, very poor taste.

Madeleine McCann: Police hunt sex attacker
Detectives say the attacks happened in holiday villas occupied by UK families in the Algarve.
The man, described as tanned with dark hair, is suspected of breaking into 12 properties from 2004 to 2010.
Madeleine was three when she disappeared in May 2007 from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Algarve.
The five girls - aged between seven and 10 - were sexually assaulted in their beds.
On one of these occasions, the man assaulted two girls in one villa.
'Serious offences' Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood said the man had an "unhealthy interest in young white female children" - and tracing him was a priority.
"We need to establish the identity of this man," DCI Redwood said.
"These offences are very serious and no one has been charged in connection with them. We also need to eliminate this man from our enquiries and ascertain whether these offences are linked to Madeleine's disappearance."
While not identical, many aspects of the circumstances surrounding the sexual assaults were similar, police said.
There were no signs of forced entry to the properties, nothing was taken and the intruder appeared in the early hours of the morning.
The suspect may have been in the villa or looking around for some time before committing the offences or being disturbed, either by a parent coming in or the child waking up, officers said.
It is really critical for us to identify this offender and prove or disprove whether he was involved in Madeleine's disappearance”
DCI Andy Redwood He remained calm even when disturbed.
Four of the 12 offences happened in Carvoeiro, two in Praia da Luz and six in Vale da Parra and Praia da Gale.
There are currently 38 people classed as "persons of interest" linked with the inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance.
Detectives are also sifting through details of 530 sex offenders whose whereabouts are unknown.
Of those, 59 are classed as high priority and some of those are British.
A high-profile campaign run by Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, and a Portuguese police investigation have failed to locate the missing girl.
Police 'frustration' In January, British detectives flew to Portugal and spoke to local police officers.
Scotland Yard had launched a new investigation - codenamed Operation Grange - into Madeleine's disappearance last July, two years into a review of the case, and made renewed appeals for information.
And the search for Madeleine was given fresh impetus in October when a BBC Crimewatch appeal that aired in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands in October led to 5,000 calls.
DCI Redwood said: "This is an offender who has got a very, very unhealthy interest in young, white, female children who he is attacking whilst they are on holiday in their beds.
"It is really critical for us to identify this offender and prove or disprove whether he was involved in Madeleine's disappearance."
Investigators in the UK have so far sent three international letters of request to Portuguese authorities over the inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt said the slow legal process had caused "frustration".
"We know what we want to do and we are ready to go with that. But the process is the process," he said. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26646885

Very clever.
Perhaps they have exhausted all avenues open to them and have decided to ask the public for assistance. They often do....and it does get results at times.

I think what they are doing is an investigation by elimination.. one by one, they tackle a subject of suspicion.. they check it inside out and move to the next one..

Latest.
Officers from Operation Grange have identified a series of 12 crimes between 2004 and 2010 where a male intruder entered villas occupied by UK families on holiday in the Western Algarve.
In four of these incidents - between 2004 and 2006 - the man sexually assaulted five white girls, aged between seven and 10, while in their beds.
The suspect is described as having tanned skin with short, dark, unkempt hair.
Witnesses say he spoke English with a foreign accent and his voice has been described as slow, or possibly slurred.
On two occasions, in Vale de Parra and Praia da Gale, he was wearing a distinctive burgundy long-sleeve top with a white circle on the back.
Sometimes he was bare chested, displaying what several witnesses describe as a pot belly.
Three victims talked of a noticeable odour.
Oh dear, Luz will be upset at such a revelation!

Yes, that seems plausible - it happens in other cases, when unrevealed leads seem to end up in dead ends.
Even if it turns out to be unrelated to the McCann case, it may be significant for the families of other children.

There have been some strange claims as to why the CPS were in Portugal...the following quote from the guardian article explains exactly why....
Scotland Yard has indicated its irritation with the slowness of the formal legal process that would allow its officers to work on the ground in Portugal. The Crown Prosecution Service has three so-called letters of request being considered by the country's legal system, among 30 from Britain on the case now being considered across Europe.

Extremely interesting that Redwood has now admitted that Madeleine might not have left the apartment alive! Wasn't he cute to slip that one in?
That has always been a possibility, hasn't it? My issue is that the forensic sweep was by no means thorough and there is no established forensic evidence either way. (There are, however, missing and unidentified hairs, though - I hope they're found somewhere in the depths of the PJ's scientific repository's black hole.) In the absence of anything concrete to suggest that she may have died there, then she could have been taken out alive, and may still be alive somewhere.

The usual suspects like Sky News were reporting tonight that the Portuguese police failed to pursue these leads and that the cases are linked to Madeleine. They don't miss a chance to put the boot in.
The truth being somewhat different but lets not let a little detail like that get in the way of another great new story.
There is no tangible link between these cases and Madeleine, in fact the differences are more noticeable What about the burglars with the mobile telephones or the two e-fits provided by the Smiths, are they now to be discarded?

ritics of the Portuguese investigation claim their failures mean they missed a vital window of opportunity to find Madeleine.
Former Met Police DCI Peter Kirkham said: “Right from the very start, the Portuguese police should have been considering sexually-motivated abduction as a possibility.
“I find it quite extraordinary that potential links with this series of offences were not made previously.”
It comes three years after Kate McCann wrote in her book, called “Madeleine”, that a series of s.e.x attacks on British youngsters was not properly investigated by the Portuguese authorities.
She said the crimes had been “brushed under the carpet”. When asked during a press conference at Scotland Yard today if the suspect was the same person described in Kate’s book, Mr Redwood simply replied: “Yes.”
Mr Redwood added: “While I accept there are differences between the break-ins and the McCann case, there is no abduction that we can see, but the assumption from that is that Madeleine McCann has been abducted.
“That may not necessarily follow with all our thinking about what may have become of Madeleine. It is really critical for us to identify this offender and prove or disprove whether he was involved in her disappearance.”

I suppose that if this creep (assuming it was the same person) who escalated in his offending, then there may indeed be little chance that she's still alive. On the other hand, Smithman still hasn't been eliminated yet, and it's not clear where they're at on the burglar front.

So what irony is there in several cases of no evidence of a break in, and supposedly no forensics. Exactly as happened in The McCann Case. It all sounds very familiar to me. Meanwhile, Amaral completely discarded any link, and tried to prove that it was not possible to enter 5A without leaving any evidence when he must have known that it had already happened several times elsewhere.

Give me a break.
We know of several which were investigated and this is just like feed a large bird which needs constantly regurgitated food.......which this information is.
If I was a Portugese citizen or living in Portugal I would be livid right now, as it would appear the British want to ensure that no one would ever want to holiday there again, with all these perverts of children hanging about.

'Maddie New suspect in British police have been investigated by the PJ and dead
British police announced yesterday that they were investigating a new lead in the context of the alleged abduction of Madeleine McCann in 2007, but the suspect has already been investigated (and excluding) the Judicial Police, advances the Diario de Noticias. The man died in 2009.
The new suspect Scotland Yard announced yesterday that they were investigating, under the alleged abduction of Madeleine McCann in 2007, has already been investigated by the Judicial Police and was dead since 2009, advances the Diario de Noticias.
The source for that is the LUSA press agency who have been informed by the PJ.
Euclid Monteiro, described by witnesses at the time, as a man of tanned skin and short dark hair and disheveled, was born in Cape Verde, he worked at the Ocean Club (resort where Maddie's family was on vacation) and died in 2009 in a tractor accident.
The investigation has even been reopened by PJ based on the discovery of this suspect and English media reporting the track reached the Portuguese authorities.
Advanced information yesterday by the British authorities realize "a potential suspect in 12 crimes that occurred between 2004 and 2010," which "2004-2006 sexually molested five white girls aged between seven and 10 years."
The Cape Verdean deceased was responsible for several assaults and lay on the bed of children, according to the PJ source, but have never realized any violation. All these developments were investigated by the GNR in the first instance, and then passed to PJ, who shared with Scotland Yard.
Are SY appealing for information in finding this person and if so how are people to know if they can be of help? I haven't yet seen any exact dates or locations of the incidents which i would consider pretty important if appealing for witnesses.
Why go public with this information and then not look for clear help solving it?

The British police's new suspect was already investigated by the PJ and is dead
20 March 2014 With thanks to Astro for translation
Yesterday, the British police announced that it is investigating a new lead within the alleged abduction of Madeleine McCann, in 2007, but the suspect was already investigated (and excluded) by the Judiciary Police, Diário de Notícias reports. The man died in 2009.
The new suspect that Scotland Yard was announced yesterday to be investigating, within the alleged abduction of Madeleine McCann, in 2007, has already been investigated by the Polícia Judiciária and was dead since 2009, Diário de Notícias reports.
Euclides Monteiro, who was described by witnesses, at the time, as a man with tanned skin and dark, unruly hair, is a Cape Verde native, worked at the Ocean Club (the tourist complex where Maddie's family was spending their holiday) and died in 2009 in a tractor accident.
The inquiry was reopened by the PJ, based on the discovery of this suspect and the British press even reported the Portuguese authorities' lead.
Information that was advanced yesterday by the British authorities mention "a potential suspect of 12 crimes that took place between 2004 and 2010", who "from 2004 until 2006 sexually molested five white British girls aged between seven and 10".
The deceased Cape-Verdian man was responsible for several burglaries and laid on the childrens' beds, according to a PJ source, but never committed any rape. All of these developments were investigated by the GNR, initially, and then passed on to the PJ, which shared them with Scotland Yard.
These stories tally with bits in KM's book which surprise surprise have no confirmed citation. Or another way for those who can't read between the lines (not you WS). Where is it actually recorded other than in KM's book? I still find it bizarre that this alleged geezer only targeted English people.
The likelihood of Kate sitting down and deciding to prove to SY, the Portuguese police and the British Consul that she is a massive fibber by writing a whole string of serious claims in her book involving them - which could all be easily disproved in an instant - and by the police too - if they were not true - is too barmy for words.
Surely no-one with half a brain would believe she would do something so ridiculously insane as to deliberately destroy every vestige of her own credibility with the very people she is relying on to help find Madeleine.
The whole idea is nuts.

I am having the other brain cell fitted tomorrow. If it changes my view I will print a retraction.

The British police's new suspect was already investigated by the PJ and is dead

The man is a liar and a dissembler with no shame or care for what happens to small girls.
Personally I think Amaral was more like an Inspector Clouseau figure, totally out of depth but lacking the great fortune that Clouseau would have enjoyed. I think he did genuinely regret not solving the case, but denial and other self defence mechanisms kicked in afterwards and then one thing led to another.

Aside from the fact that tractorman died in 2009, and the recent news is that attacks continued into 2010; tractorman was black, and this suspect is tanned; and the two don't appear to have been formally connected, let alone be the same individual..
If these papers were written by 8-year-olds, I might be a bit more sympathetic.

Madeleine McCann suspect 'died in 2009'
Revelation by source close to investigators comes day after new appeal for information on British girl's disappearance in Portugal
A suspect in Madeleine McCann case who may have sexually assaulted five British girls in the Algarve up to 10 years ago died in 2009, according to a source close to Portuguese investigators into the disappearance of the three year-old.
The source also said there had been another so far unpublicised incident in which another British girl on holiday with her parents was sexually abused, although he did not go into when this came to light nor where or when it took place.
The revelations came the day after the Metropolitan police in Britain appealed for information on a total of 12 incidents in which an intruder entered holiday accommodation in three resort areas including one where Madeleine, then three, went missing in May 2007. Four of these cases, between 2004 and 2006, involved assaults on girls aged seven to 10 and one involved two children, according to Scotland Yard, although police in both countries have looked at incidents up to 2010, three years after Madeleine vanished.
The Guardian's source was careful to say the police had come to "no definitive conclusions" about the Cape Verdean national Euclides Monteiro, who died, aged 40, in a tractor accident. His name previously emerged in Portugal as a possible suspect in November although the interest of Portuguese and UK authorities in any connection to sexual assaults had not been made public at that time.
The claim comes amid growing tensions between authorities in the two countries over the handling of the case. The Met would not comment on the reports. It reopened its inquiries into Madeleine's disappearance last summer and Portuguese authorities followed suit in October.
David Cameron said on Thursday that he was ready to help bring pressure to bear on Lisbon, after senior Met officers expressed frustration at the slow international legal process they believe is delaying their investigations and preventing them working on the ground in Portugal.
The Portuguese source said the police had been investigating Monteiro before Lisbon officialy reopened its McCann inquiries. "It was on based on the combination of leads that the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) decided to request permission to resume investigations into the case. The public prosecutor's office agreed with our evaluation and ordered the case to be reopened," the source said.
"The specific nature of these cases are not only unique to the Algarve, but the whole of Portugal, hence our particular interest. The name Euclides Monteiro did not fall from the sky and was convenient because he was deceased."
Scotland Yard officers and Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry were given a presentation in Lisbon over the direction Portuguese authorities were taking in October, said the source. "Maps and satellite photographs were exhibited during this presentation. These images are similar to those which [the Metropolitan Police] uploaded on to their website following Wednesday's press conference," the source said.
Monteiro lived and often worked near holiday homes where the victims were staying at the time the crimes were perpetrated, he said. The source said the assailant was described by his victims as smelling of tobacco and speaking English but in a foreign accent. Some details are similar to those released by British authorities this week, but the sources said some of the victims described the man as being of African origin. None had discounted the possibility.
The description issued by Scotland Yard did not say the man they were seeking may have been of African origin, describing him the man as "having dark (as in tanned) skin".
Up until six months before the disappearance of Madeleine, Monteiro had been an employee at the Ocean Complex in Praia da Luz, the resort in which the McCann's stayed, and was a residentthere at the time of her disappearance, the source said.
"The inquiry remains open and so too does the investigation. We have not drawn any definitive conclusions as to whether or not Euclides is our man.
"It has come to light that there was a fifth case with striking similarities to the four cases made public on Wednesday and all follow a similar modus operandi, which leads us to believe that the same person perpetrated these five crimes and that he could also be responsible for the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
"This is the line of inquiry Portuguese police have been following since the reopening of the case, which is that which the Metropolitan police made public on Wednesday.
"Portuguese police are dealing with a case which is seven years old and, coupled with the fact that the line of inquiry being followed involves a deceased person, further complicates the investigation. These cases are unique not only to the Algarve, but Portugal as a whole.
"Euclides is someone who we believe could have been involved in these five crimes – it is only a possibility – that he could have been responsible for the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
"There are some other elements of interest to investigators which I cannot disclose as this moment, but I stress that these factors only make the sequence of events to which I refer a possibility."
Police in London have acknowledged differences between the potentially linked cases they have been investigating – including the time they took place and the fact there were no abductions. In six of the 12, the suspect either sat or lay on a child's bed, although sexual assaults occurred in just four cases. In nine cases, there was no forced entry or stolen property and where there was it was minimal.
The Lisbon source insisted the investigation was proceeding steadily "but with the discretion that has characterised it from the beginning".
The prime minister's official spokesman said Cameron would be prepared to "make further representations" to Lisbon if it could help Scotland Yard.
UK police said they had received more than 250 calls and emails in response to the latest appeal on Wednesday. "We are reviewing this information and following up lines of inquiry. This is still very early stages," said Scotland Yard.

Thanks, WS.
You see, this particular aspect is a trifle complicated. Tractorman appears to have been in PdL when Madeleine disappeared, when he didn't actually live there. And he was a know Burglar. But he can't have committed sexual abuse in 2010. So it is a possibility that these two crimes are not connected.

Sex beast in Maddie case dead: Police identify prime suspect
POLICE in Portugal claim they know the identity of the sex beast British cops believe was involved in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance – and he’s dead.
Their prime suspect for attacks on five other UK girls on the Algarve is an African burglar called Euclides Monteiro, who died in 2009.
The heroin addict used to work as a waiter at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz on the Algarve but was sacked a year before Madeleine stayed there with her parents. He was killed in a tractor accident, aged 40, two years after the three-year-old vanished.
British detectives this week began a Europe-wide hunt for the paedophile, who was known to sneak into holiday homes late at night and molest girls aged between six and 12.
Nine attacks were reported to Portuguese police between 2004 and 2009.
Then three new victims came forward after Scotland Yard officers revealed on Crimewatch last year they were probing the possibility Madeleine had been snatched by burglars.
The incidents all took place in a 60km strip of the Algarve between Vale da Parra and Carvoeiro.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is heading the inquiry, claimed the fiend could also have targeted Madeleine.
He said there was a possibility “she did not leave the apartment alive”.But last night Portuguese police accused the Met of “hijacking” their work.
A source said: “All the cases mentioned were investigated by us here. Monteiro was arrested but freed because of lack of evidence.’’
The Cape Verde immigrant had been working at a water treatment plant in the town of Lagos, near Praia da Luz, when the McCanns arrived for their holiday in 2007.
But days before Madeleine disappeared, he was signed off sick and did not return to work for two months. Mobile phone data analysis placed him near the McCanns’ apartment when she vanished.
A local source said: ‘“He is the main suspect for the incidents involving the girls on holiday and was questioned but there was insufficient evidence.”
Euclides’ widow Luisa, 40, has insisted her late husband and father of her child had nothing to do with Madeleine’s disappearance.
She said: “He may have broken into houses when he was younger because he was poor and had a drug habit. I know Euclides is an innocent man.”
British police were last night sifting through information contained in more than 250 calls and emails from the public following their television appeal to trace the sex attacker.
Asked last night about the Portuguese police’s claims about Monteiro, a Scotland Yard spokesman said: “We are not prepared to discuss it.”

As this was said by AR at the same time as the appeal about the monster who sexually assaulted several little girls from 12 families - (some being saved only by the intervention of their parents) was made - then IMO it is far more likely that there is something in that person's modus operandi which has emerged after interviewing the families which has led them to believe that Madeleine may have been killed - maybe even accidentally by that man - and the McCanns do not come into it - and possibly - neither do the dogs -whose alerts could be completely unrelated.
In their eagerness to believe SY are about to put the McCanns in the frame - that particular monster seems to have been eliminated from the equation altogether by some people.

As the investigation progresses things will change as people are ruled in and out of the inquiry resulting in changes of emphasis and direction. What won’t have changed is the initial information which caused NSY to rule Madeleine’s parents out, and that includes the dog alerts in 5a and elsewhere. The focus of the investigation is now firmly directed elsewhere and I for one will be astounded if it includes the parents, although nothing can be ruled out.
I think Benice has hit the nail on the head when she says something may have been discovered about the perpetrator of the attacks on British children which has caused the concern to be raised that Madeleine may have died in the apartment.

Well, for whatever reason you care to imagine, Scotland Yard have placed a dead Madeleine in the apartment where a cadaver dog alerted
For the first time that possibility has been acknowledged by them
That is the bald fact

They can't have found out anything about the perp of the bed sitting attacks because
1. they don't know who he is
2. there are no other unsolved child disappearances in the Algarve
3. all he did was sit and look in 10 cases and "sexual assault" in two cases which could mean touching a butt through a pair of pjs.....NOT "rape" as alleged on this forum.
4. if the bed sitter was the perp then why did no one smell him? Why was there no DNA, or even a butt mark on the bed?

"The five girls - aged between seven and 10 - were sexually assaulted in their beds.
On one of these occasions, the man assaulted two girls in one villa."
So what we have is 5 assaults, two in the same location. So out of the twelve incidents that are being connected, 8 didn't include a sexual assault on a child.
We don't know what type of assault it was, nor should we. It may have been the most minor type, but I'm sure that it was still terrifying for the child involved.
"These offences are very serious and no one has been charged in connection with them. We also need to eliminate this man from our enquiries and ascertain whether these offences are linked to Madeleine's disappearance."
Sy haven't categorically stated that they think this man is involved.
12 break ins. 5 assaults on 4 occasions. No abductions. No murders. Sy believe the same man may have committed an offence in 2010, a year after Euclides Montenaro died. To connect the 2010 assault with the previous offences, there must be either evidence or the same/similar MO. none of which was abduction or murder.

Meantime in UK, Operation Grange has revealed that it is currently receiving hundreds of calls in response to the latest announcement that a bare-chested sexual predator abused five little white girls - all older than Madeleine – while they were sleeping in their beds in holiday homes along the Algarve between 2004 and 2006.
The Met described 12 separate crimes leading up to 2010, only four of them involving the sexual abuse of girls aged 7-10.
Whether the other eight crimes involved another type of sexual abuse has not been divulged. -snipped-

1 According to numerous press reports, the PJ think it is Monteiro. NSY have issued a description of the alleged perpetrator, although it appears that Montiero is not their target. http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/466378/Scotland-Yard-and-Portuguese-police-fall-out-over-identity-of-key-Madeleine-McCann-suspect
2 Rene Hasee vanished from Amoreira beach near Aljezur, Algarve, he has never been found. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-83188.html
3 “all he did”? We don't really know what he did, but the children, their families and the police know, and in my opinion NSY want to speak urgently to this person because of that.
4 Included in the NSY physical description is “smell”. It is believed that Portuguese police obtained a DNA sample from one of the attacks but there has been no match on the country’s rudimentary database. IMO Monteiro's DNA would be on file. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/uk/madeleine-mccann-search-police-hunt-tanned-darkhaired-man-with-distinctive-odour-wanted-for-sexually-assaulting-five-young-british-girls-30109771.html

Welcome Brietta and thanks for your fact-finding.
I doubt that Monteiro's DNA would have been on file for a theft in the early '90s. Fingerprints, hopefully, but DNA seems somewhat dubious to me.

Madeleine McCann suspect tried to snatch lookalike girl
Dad claims man lured three-year-old daughter from cafe five months before Maddie's disappearance
A dad claims that the main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case tried to abduct his daughter – who is the 'double' of the missing girl.
The blue-eyed blonde girl's father told The Sun the man led away his daughter, then three, before Madeleine vanished.
He said: "Maddie and my daughter are doubles."
Scotland Yard revealed this week they are hunting a lone intruder who preyed on girls in the Portuguese Algarve from 2004 to 2010.
The dad said a man matching the description lured his girl from their cafe in the region on Christmas Day 2006.
He recalled: "I looked for her and saw her with a man I took to be Moroccan. We shouted and she stopped and turned. He disappeared."
The incident took place in Silves - 35 miles from where Madeleine was snatched five months later.
It was investigated by ex-cop Dave Edgar - hired by Madeleine's parents - who linked it to five attacks in the Algarve.
Portuguese police are said to believe the suspect is Euclides Monterio, 40, killed in a tractor accident in 2009.
The ex-heroin addict worked at a nearby sewage plant and called in sick days before she disappeared, and did not return for two months.
Widow Luisa, 40, insisted: "He didn't do anything, he was a good man."
So the man Scotland Yard are searching for is the dead black man ?
No, it seems you got that wrong. Entirely the wrong way round

DNA would hopefully have been taken from the sexual assault cases (the earliest seems to be in 2004?) I doubt that Monteiro's DNA would have been taken for a theft conviction in the early '90s.

I am at a loss as to why I should "stop right there" as there is a real problem concerning unattributed leaks to the press which have blighted the Madeleine McCann inquiry right from the word go. IMO the lessons have not been learned from the reporting debacle of 2007 which continues to influence perceptions to the present day.
The press reports linking Euclides Monteiro to the Madeleine McCann case appear to have their genesis in leaks from a “source close to the PJ”, which have been printed first in the Portuguese press, then picked up by media world wide. “The unnamed man, who died aged 40 in a tractor accident in 2009, may have been motivated by revenge after being sacked by the hotel resort, Portugal’s Correio da Manha newspaper said, citing police sources.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/madeleinemccann/10415464/Madeleine-McCann-suspect-may-have-died-in-tractor-accident.html
When Mr Murat was declared arguido by the PJ, the media could be legitimately expected to report that fact. 442 to 447 Background information on Robert Murat and Michaela Walzuch 2-Processo Vol II pages 442 to 447 http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/ROBERT-MURAT.htm

The artist's impression shows a pock-marked and 'very ugly' man who appeared to be watching the apartment Eggman … The e-fit of a man, as drawn from memory by British-born DVD shop owner Simon Russell after being shown it by police, in Praia Da Luz, following the disappearance of Madeleine McCann Tannerman… A suspect described by Jane Tanner, one of the friends on holiday with the McCanns, of a man walking with a child in his arms away from the holiday apartment
Dark eyeglass starey man… Mario, who only started working at the Ocean Club a month before Madeleine vanished, said he identified a potential suspect to Portuguese police a few months after Madeleine went missing. He spent hours with an officer looking at pictures and videos. Investigators could then find no other evidence linking the identified man to the girl’s disappearance. However, according to Portuguese files, officers asked British police to put more questions to this man – a full year after Madeleine vanished. Mario was 80% convinced he was the man he saw but admits he could not be sure and now six years have passed.
Gypsies - Gypsy link to Maddie • BRITISH detectives are to return to Spain to investigate a possible gypsy link in the disappearance of Maddie McCann. A team from Scotland Yard have already spent three days looking into claims that the youngster was smuggled into Spain and taken to Barcelona. They met with both Spain’s UDYCO organised crime unit and detective Dave Edgar, who has spent years investigating the Spanish claims. Now they are reported to be returning to investigate the theory that she was snatched by a child kidnap gang run by gypsies. Portuguese police have already investigated a report by holidaymaker Andre van Wyk that he had seen a girl resembling Madeleine being taken in a cart to a gypsy camp near Portimao, about 16kms from where Maddie disappeared. Days later a British holidaymaker Jean Godwin saw a girl – ’100 per cent Madeleine’ – being dragged around by ‘gypsy women’ 35kms away. Her information was followed up by both detective Edgar working for the McCann’s and Portuguese police, but nothing was ever conclusive. The latest development is part of an on-going ‘investigative review’ into the girl’s disappearance in Portugal in 2007, ordered by Prime Minister David Cameron last year. Last week, the McCann’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: “Kate and Gerry welcome the on-going work by the Metropolitan Police and they are pleased that the investigative review is making progress.”
Details of the evidence are contained in a 2,000-page police dossier finally published by the Portuguese authorities after requests from newspapers including the Daily Mail. It contains the testimony of Mrs Godwin, who claims she spotted Madeleine in September 2008. She said: ‘This was a young girl, in the middle of the two women and holding the hand of each. Her eyes were wide open and my attention was drawn to the large irises. ‘The child was wearing what was clearly a black wig. It was short, cut in a bob style and very thick. The wig was shiny and unnatural looking and out of keeping with her very pale complexion and fair eyebrows. ‘I would say she was about 3ft 1in tall and about five years of age. She was very thin and I would describe her as malnourished. Her cheeks looked gaunt. I think she had a bump on her nose. 'I am convinced that the little girl I saw that morning was Madeleine. I have been asked how certain I am. I will say I am 100 per cent sure. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1255297/Riddle-Madeleine-McCann-fat-gipsy-women.html’
Burglars Police are also pursuing links to a sharp rise in burglaries in the area, and bogus charity workers approaching individuals on the resort
Cleaners Now, six years after Madeleine disappeared, the laundryman has urged British detectives to speak to him. Mario believes the man he saw the night before three-year-old Madeleine disappeared in May 2007 should be on Scotland Yard’s list too. The divorced dad, who said he has always felt “uncomfortable” about the Portuguese police inquiry, spoke out after the Daily Mirror tracked him down at his home in the Algarve this week. He also believes he may be one of 12 manual workers and cleaners Scotland Yard detectives have identified as “people of interest”.
I wasn't quite sure what point you were trying to make with your list of E-fits. IMO they haven't been 'dreamed up' for the sake of it, but were a genuine attempt by witness and artist to portray the people seen, and as such should not be dismissed in an offhand manner.

FAMILY claims that girl who is identical to Madeleine McCann was almost abducted 35 miles from where Maddie vanished

This incident was never a snatch or attempt it was anything but.
Diário de Notícias of May 25, 2007 (that's six months previously), telling us that;(link can be found through search archives)
A 30 years old man, from Morocco, threatened to kidnap the three year old daughter of a woman who rents a coffee-shop at Fonte de Luzeiros, between Silves and São Bartolomes de Messines." and that the "kidnap threat was made, last Tuesday".
See how there was no actual attempt at kidnapping Carolina Santos, only a threat, and that it all happened after Madeleine was snatched, not four months beforehand.
But, wait there's more. The Diário de Notícias goes on to say that the woman "filed a complaint with GNR from Silves the next day, and was contacted yesterday by investigators from Polícia Judiciária, to whom she told what happened." The newspaper then said that after "Talking with local residents" they "found that the man in question is a street seller and a well known trouble maker."
So far from "never being questioned" the family was questioned by both the GNR and the PJ, and what's more everyone knows who was responsible for causing the trouble in the first place.
Why are you posting inaccuracies? Maddie possibly not being alive when she left 5a is not a lead, [ it is a theory] ; neither is not being alive equal to murdered. Death could have been due to an accident.
Do you think they would go to those extreme lengths to conceal a body and cry abduction if a tragic accident had happened? No if that happened incriminating factors were involved.

Even a tragic accident could have led to consequences that were no to be contemplated.

I think if a tragic accident had happened it would be the last thing on your mind and wouldn't happen but if you knew incriminating factors were involved then that thinking quickly changes to panic and saving the family.

We've gone through dozens of suspects and scenarios, millions of pounds and hours of manpower, and ended up right where Amaral left off.
One possibly deceased Madeleine in 5a, and the Smith sighting of a guy who looks like her father carrying her down to the beach.
Of course the irony is lost on Team McCann who are still roping in tractormen, dead pedophiles, gypsies, 3 burglars, 2 germans, and a partridge in a pear tree.

That appears to be exactly where we are .... three years and several million pounds later ... right back where the Portuguese police were when the case was closed

Are we? Have you given any thought as to why the Portuguese Attorney General decided to reopen the case which could not have been done without the backing of his Government colleagues and all well aware of the potential political embarrassment?
It is pity that we have not been informed exactly what the Oporto PJ picked up during their review of this case but it must have been something substantial for the PAG to even consider the matter never mind actually do it.
I'm not aware that PT conducts reviews of cold cases unless new information drops on the desk of whichever officer is charged with evaluating it. The fact that the Met had undertaken a review and wanted to work with PT may have been a major step forward in that direction.
The fact that a serial child sexual abuser doesn't appear to have been seriously investigated may be part of it... and which may - or may not - be linked to burglaries, drug offences or whatever else. Whether there is a connection to Madeleine or not, there were leads that don't appear to have been fully eliminated.

In my opinion, the review which led to Madeleine’s case being re-opened and the subsequent investigation has not led to the point where Dr Amaral left off.
According to everything Dr Amaral has stated in public and in his book, his conviction is that Madeleine’s parents are complicit in covering up her death, hiding her body and subsequently disposing of it.
Obviously NSY and the PJ reviews investigated that possibility and discarded it, since the investigation does not consider the parents to be persons of interest.
Mr Smith’s original description does not identify Dr McCann, his later statement, which he withdrew was not backed up by his family. "Urged, he states that the individual did not appear to be a tourist. He cannot explain this further. It was simply his perception given the individual's clothing." http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/MARTIN_SMITH.htm
Please take note that whoever you consider ‘Team McCann’ to be, all the ‘partridges in pear trees’ seem to be ‘roped in’ by ‘sources close to the PJ’ leaking information to the Portuguese press which is then picked up by the British press.

All these cases of assaults on tourist children on the Algarve makes one wonder how many others were either not reported or not detected for one reason or another?
