How many sightings did the PJ actually properly investigate in 2007? I know there were reports, like the one of the couple seen at Lagos Marina carrying a child on the early morning of 4th May that they dismissed as irrelevant despite never tracing the couple.

Yep I know, the one where the guy who saw the couple never even gave a statement to the PJ you mean.
Seems he was that sure it was her.

Thanks for the link - this is the bit I was referring to - seems he did speak to the police but they were so disinterested in what he had to tell them they didn't even bother taking a statement.
Around 17H16, we were contacted by GEORGE, AMY's father, from telephone number *******. Regarding the facts in question, he states that he had already contacted the PJ, in May of 2007, and at this time relayed to the police that, at around 06H00M in the morning, on the 4th May, 2007, he saw a couple passing Lagos Marina and the man was carrying the child, and it was ascertained at that time that the aforementioned situation would not be of interest to the investigation.

Probably because it wasn't a credible sighting.

Where did George say he thought it was definitely her? Did the Smiths say they thought it was Madeleine they saw being carried? Why should one sighting be given more credibility than another? It may not concern you that the PJ didn't do a thorough job following up leads but then you're just a WUM on the internet so I wouldn't expect you to be concerned about anything except the lulz you may get for your attempts at humour and provocative comments.

Why should one sighting be given more credibility than another?
There were more witnesses to the Smiths' sighting, which also occured closer to the apartment & around the time the kid was gorn.

So on the basis that the Lagos Marina sighting was made by only one individual, who appears not to have said he was certain it was Madeleine and it was in a place 7km away (albeit at a marina, full of boats which could have been used to ferry her out of the area and only a few hours after the child was abducted) then it renders the sight not credible & irrelevant, in your view? See, if I was investigating this I'd want to trace the couple just to be certain, not just make my mind up on the spot that it couldn't possibly have any relevance whatsoever. Would I have been foolish to do so?

In view of what was already known about coastal criminal 'activities' - surely this sighting should have been investigated as a matter of urgency.
