Title: Witness claims to have seen a man carrying a child on the mound.
Post by: Victoria on June 06, 2014, 09:57:46 AM
Interesting. Portuguese press are reporting today that the reason the scrubland is being searched is because a british woman saw a man walking there with a child in his arms on the night in question, and the identity of the man in question appears to be known to them (he's Portuguese and has a record).

Amazing isn't it, that this witness has waited 7 years before telling anyone.

Bit of an assumption on your part there, old chum.

Is there any mention of this witness in the files?  No there aint.

I wonder if she produced an e-fit, maybe we'll find out in 2019.

Doesn't mean she didn't come forward at the time. Certainly doesn't mean it took her seven years. At this stage, we simply don't know. But if the Portuguese newspaper is right and this was the justification given for the scrubland search, it rather puts to bed some peoples pet theories.  @)(++(*

Interesting story. I wonder if there is any truth behind it?  Another of these things where time will tell.

Couldn't quite make out why drug traffickers should raid a holiday apartment and kill and remove a child - was it a revenge attack?

It is even more amazing how all the witnesses are English and all the POIs speak English.
Is it PdL or Burnham on Crouch?

I did notice that - convenient, what ?

Not without rather more detail, it doesn't.

Sometimes people have more than one vice. In fact, when drugs are involved it's pretty much a certainty.

Appears to be known ???

No doubt soon to be picked up by the Sun, Mirror and the Mail, who will run 4 page features on it.

Maddie Case

Phone calls frame Maddie's 'abductors'

English police says that Maddie McCann's murderers are Portuguese and involved in drug trafficking

by: Tânia Laranjo/Rui Pando Gomes
06.06.14

They are Portuguese and have a record of drug trafficking. The English police says they broke into the Ocean Club apartment, in Lagos, and killed Madeleine McCann, on the 3rd of May of 2007. The phonecalls that were made before and after the crime were used as evidence to sustain the searches that have been under way since Monday. Scotland Yard further asserts that there is a British witness that saw one of the men carrying a child in his arms to the empty lot that lies less than 500 metres from the resort. He ran away, the English now say, but before that he buried the little girl's body. They want to hear the three suspects, but for now there is no evidence to sustain the thesis.

"Anyone who is going to do a robbery does not walk there and doesn't abandon a body so close to the crime scene. Furthermore, there were no signs of a break-in at the apartment", said Gonçalo Amaral, the former PJ inspector who investigated the case and considers that this new theory is not credible.

This version is one of those that are in the letter rogatory that determined the searches. It's the strongest one, but the English open the door to other possibilities. Five other suspects are listed. They also have a record and they acted under the motive of theft.

Seven years after the disappearance, the English police assures the Public Ministry that the theory had a basis. The description that was made by a British tourist coincides with one of the suspecta that resides The woman saw him speaking English on the phone as he walked by with the child in his arms.in the vicinity.

He was speaking English on the phone but he is Portuguese?

So this is my theory that was laughed at in here that a burglar accidentially killed Madeleine and took away her body to hide the evidence?

Not really a credible theory though is it? So,SY believe Madeleine died in the apartment? So the dogs were correct. The 'abductor' would have had to have entered a killed her sometime between Gerry's check at 9.05 (he then spent 4 mins in apt and 6 mins talking to Jez and Matthews check at 9.30 (not very likely) OR between Mat's check at 9,30 and Kate's at just before ten. But would the latter period of time be enough for cadaver odour to develop?

This man was therefore carrying a child & a shovel whilst talking on the phone. The witness followed him, watched the burial & then saw him run away - but never told the PJ.
I think I can guess the source of this story.

SY have not said they believe Madeleine died in the apartment.  It is only a possibilty.  IMO that possibility is linked to the serial abuser of British children.

All those people who came forward will have been interviewed.    If a common 'modus operandi'  - for instance the perp put his hand over the child's mouth to keep them quiet  - has emerged - then it IS possible that Madeleine could have been suffocated - even accidentally, - and then her body removed to avoid DNA detection.

As it was during the programme appealing for further witnesses regarding this man, that the suggestion that she may not have left the apartment alive was made - then IMO it is feasible to believe this may be SY's line of thinking.

You think they'd have taken her a bit further than 300 metres away then, wouldn't you?

Amaral had an identical theory but only the different people he 'accused' of concealing the body!

Amaral said ....... hid the body near by, then possibly froze it and then used the car to transport the remains.

You'd have to be either desperate or a sandwich short of a picnic to think that carrying a body a short distance from the scene of the crime would be less risky than leaving the body, if you are a stranger, that is.

This stranger did manage to remove his/her DNA from the apartment though, so not a totally inept criminal.

From what I think is a translation of a Correio Da Manha report:
"... a British witness who saw one of the men carrying a child in his arms up to the wasteland ..."
"... fled, but before he was able to bury ..."
"... she heard the suspect speaking in British English ..."

At a similarly young age I used to design whole cities. Back to interesting news, is no-one interested in the new witness, which Correio Da Manha have reported? A female brit tourist who reportedly saw a man carrying a child towards mound area while talking on phone in english.

Well I'm interested. A little dubious too though....

He's been described as Portuguese, yet spoke in English? Why didn't this British tourist mention this sighting at any point in the last 7 years?

It's all a bit strange.

Plus announcing that a request for interviews has been given is just bizarre.
