I think Greece is sticking two fingers up to the EU

The Drachma won't pay their inflated Pensions, anymore than The Euro could afford to. Although it might help if they stopped cheating The Benefit System, and paid their taxes.
I am half waiting with bated breath to see what the outcome of the Referendum will be. The other half of me doesn't really care.

All countries joining the Euro had to meet certain criteria. There's much evidence Greece didn't meet the criteria and that they were 'assisted' by Goldman Sachs and possibly internal fudging of the figures. Either way it will be the ordinary citizens who will bear the brunt.
If Greece goes under there's every chance it will proliferate like the sub-prime mortgage debacle that started in the US and caused the global financial crisis in 2008.

Danger is that if Greece exits the €uro then countries like Portugal and Ireland could also eventually follow suit and the European Community knows it thus why they will bend over backwards to accommodate the Greeks and they in turn know it. It all appears to be a great big game of CHICKEN.
My own experience is that the €uro was the cause of rising prices in Iberia and elsewhere and Greece should exit. They will never be able to pay back the billions of €uros they already owe to the ECB so might as well attempt to rebuild their economy from scratch. Either way though it's going to be a lot of pain for ordinary Greeks for a long time to come.

Well they voted NO, which translated means we dont accept more austerity, ie we dont want go be thrashed at will by creditors, if thats ok with you even though you are not arsed and neither arsed that a countey would out votes democraticakky to its electorate rather than think they have a blank cheque to do what they like once voted in....as is the case in the UK...then agan Greece like most civilised countries have proportional representation
The pensions have been halved,their salaries cut by a third, youth unemployment is near 50 per cent, and this is not new, but has fgone on for a few years, the EU meisters want them go cut more and also a 24 per cent vat rate, and other increased taxes, even if they all lived on 100 euros a month for a century the debt wouldnt be paid off
Their requests actually ENSURE Greece cant have any growth whatsoever let alone pay their so called debts.
It is a political game and nothing else. Meanwhile millions of Greeks who have done nothing wrong have to queue up at the banks for two hours to take a maximum if 60 euros of their OWN money out of the bank
Worst case scenario is that many will lose thieir life savings, and people scoff at their marching in the streets.
But it will not come to this, I am positive, as Europe cannot afford this inhumane treatment of another member.

You got it in one Holly. The powers that be not only knew this but exploited it over the years. Lets keep out fingers crossed that sanity overrules all else.

Theyre USED to it, but most Greeks dont want to leave the Euro. They tend to be forward thnking. They just want sime breathng space and not to be under the shackles of the Merkel club and their whips every other day! So, maybe you could be right. Time will tell.
