I am looking for the names of the best media reporters who cover the Madeleine McCann story, and who are active on this front as we post.
I hope to identify a shortlist of 3 such reporters operating in the UK media, and 3 operating in the Portuguese media.
Portugal covers the location where Madeleine McCann disappeared, and the main countries (UK and Ireland) which possibly can generate further leads.
I do not have the resources to extend to other countries that may harbour information pertinent to Madeleine's disappearance. These include Spain, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Russia and Poland, but if the Sun is to be believed, I am still 91 countries short.
Please feel free to nominate your top picks using your criteria. With a list of names, I can sort the sheep from the goats.
Personally, I am looking for the following.
They should be relatively neutral and impartial. This may well be the toughest challenge in both the UK and Portugal.
They should be investigative journalists. That is, ones who can apply a bit of elbow grease in expanding our knowledge of what happened on 3 May 2007.
They should have some gravitas, standing or reputation. Madeleine has been ill-served by sensationalist articles.
They MUST be active. Someone who has retired may be an option in future but not at the present.
I am looking simply for the names of 3 decent quality investigative journos in the UK and the same in Portugal, where such journos have an interest in Madeleine's case.
Over to you.

you will struggle....what you are asking for is impossible....as you will find
you want impartial so you will not accept any jourmalist who supports the mccannns even if in reality they are impartial

Perhaps it would be a good idea to define "impartial" before any progress can be made in this quest? As I understand it, any article that quotes unnmaed sources that supports the view that the Met are investigating a criminal act by a stranger is deemed McCann propaganda, fed by Clarence Mitchell, so we can scrub all the journos who have ever written such an article. On the other hand, any article that hints at McCann wrong-doing is deemed to be the work of credible investigative journos, so that means the team that did the Sunday Times piece go to the top of the list.

I think Darshna Soni did a very fair interview with the McCanns a few years ago.

Are you actually looking for UK journalists who know far more about the case than we do but can't print their stories because of media restrictions? Otherwise, you should be looking to the journalists on your home soil.

Parental involvement is probably the most common. factor in abductions so hardly ridiculous.

Only when there is a custody dispute so ridiculous

I can't recall any piece of investigative journalism relating to the case of Madeleine McCann. Of course there could have been restrictions on what could be said. I have often wondered what a Super (inaudible) might be; it seems to have had the power to ban something. I wonder where it came from and who it applied to?
4078 “You also, when we spoke earlier, expressed a sense of frustration about the fact that you’d all been banned by the Super (inaudible).”
Reply “That’s right, yes.”
4078 “And you’d been very restrained in what you said.”
Reply “Yeah, yeah.”

In just about every parental abduction there is a custody dispute and its obvious why
A parent can only abduct there own child if there is a custody dispute

I am of the opinion that most UK journalists (can't say about Portuguese ones) are way behind on the pool of knowledge amassed by 'amateur' detectives.
Gordon Rayner runs a piece in the Telegraph where the opening paragraph states that we can be sure of only one fact in the MM case, namely that the police were called at 10.14pm on 3 May 2007. Both parts of this are in error.
The provenance of the 10.14 error can be traced back to around 9 Sep 2007 (Pamalam). It may be earlier but I have not attempted to find when it first surfaced. The source is said to be the McCanns. The Times ran with a piece in Sep 2007 saying that around 10.14 or 10.15, a friend went to reception to get the police called.
Quite clearly Mr Rayner is unaware that Matthew Oldfield failed to ensure that the police were called, and that the records show the first call was timed at 10.41.
His 'one fact' take is incorrect, given that the PJ Files can be used to build up a more detailed record of what was going on that day and that night.
Thus I am looking for decent quality, investigative journalists who, when supplied with an accurate dossier of known facts plus relevant questions and the logistics of getting answers to those questions, will attempt to obtain such answers.
I know that the Tapas 9, the Smiths and Berry/Balu are all sitting on pieces of information they do not consider to be important, when in fact they are.
My chances of getting such sources to communicate with me are about zero.
They just might be willing to talk to a journalist with a decent track record for fair reporting.

with respect the part in red is simply your opinion........do you really think SY are incapable of investigating this case properly. I would say the chances of any respected investigative journalists co operating with you are pretty remote
much of the information gathered online is flawed.....we have been told by Harrison that no inferences can be drawn from the alerts......yet you and others draw inference

Neither were abducted
In just about every parental abduction there is a custody dispute and its obvious why
A parent can only abduct there own child if there is a custody dispute
Both cases were viewed initially as abductions given what the parents claimed. Some still claim Joana Cipriano was abducted by her uncle for financial gain, this being just one of the stories told by him to the Portuguese Police. Sharon Matthews mother claimed she had been abducted but again this was a ruse to elicit financial gain. Baby Daniel Freitas was abducted by his mother again for financial gain according to police. There are many more cases out there, parental abduction is not limited to custody disputes.
Now could we all get back to reviewing reporters.

I don't draw inference from the dog alerts. I know what the facts are surrounding the dog alerts. And kindly do not divert this thread into yet another dog thread.
As to known facts, the only one I have used to illustrate my answer to Misty is that we know with precision the time of the first call to the GNR.
As it happens we know of the time of the second call to the GNR.
And the time of the call from Silvia Batista's mobile to the GNR.
And the time of the 3 calls from Securitas to the GNR that evening.
And the time of the 2 calls from Gerry to Kate that evening.
From this, a fairly good picture of what was going on that evening can be built up.
At no point have I stated or implied an OG comparison, so please stop deflecting from the thread purpose.

the point of this thread is to find a journalist to send your known facts to in order to further the investigation. It would be interesting to see your known facts to see how factual they are as there is a lot on here and other sites taht simply isnt factual
why not simply send your known facts to all the investigative journalists you know

Would you have me send such information to Antonella Lazzeri at the Sun, and Alan Selby and Phil Cardy at the Mirror?
I asked for decent quality, impartial journalists for a reason.
And I don't have the capacity to interact with a large number of journalists. Indeed, my aim is to interact via just one in British media and just one in Portuguese media (not the English media in Portugal). I am not going to list the many reasons why.
So do you have anyone who fits the spec or not?

To quote davel "If civil questions are being asked can we have the courtesy to provide civil answers."
Your reply is propaganda and goading. I courteously ask you to cease and desist.
If the McCanns 'dunnit' there is but one way they 'dunnit', and evidence to support such a hypothesis is long gone. That's a 'dunnit and scot-free' hypothesis.
Since I postulated that the McCanns are sitting on valuable information that they don't know has value, it clearly does not fall into the 'dunnit' category.
Either come up with some names of journalists or do the forum a favour and give it a rest.

Louis Theroux is very good but the problem you have is in my opinion why would an established journalist want to work with you
It isn't as simple as coming up with a list of names
I think your idea would have a lot more credibility if it was a list of known facts agreed by and sent by the forum

1 The process will be interactive two-way. Not the simple sending of a list, a one-off one way process. Hence the need to keep it down to two.
2 Do you really believe this forum could agree a list of known facts? I don't, so I for one am not going to attempt it.
No journalist names you want to put in the frame? None that you think of who have been fair, accurate and impartial about the McCanns?
It is an important point if an approach for information is made to the McCanns.
Do you have a single journalist name you consider the McCanns would trust?

If the forum couldn't agree it would be because the known facts are not facts
I think the whole thing is a pointless exercise and will go nowhere

Fortunately, I cannot see anything of interest about the dogs that either the McCanns or Martin Grime would wish to comment on.

Independant Investigative journalists are very wary of touching anything McCann. In fact some stories are well hidden for years due to 'pacts' and threats. Name one such well known, hidden from the public, Jimmy saville story.
...and many others worthwhile stories deemed to be politically incorrect by the elite lefite luuvies.

I'm not sure any investigative journalists are particularly interested in the case any more.
However, off the top of my head and for what it's worth, I always found that Brendan de Beer (Portugal News) to be responsible in his reporting, as was the *former* editor of the Portugal Resident (whose name now escapes me). On the UK side, one who comes to mind is David Rose. Summers and Swan are very familiar with the case as well.

Here is someone who is not recommended, even though he's introduced as somewhat of an expert on the case.
LBC NICK FERRARI WEDNESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2017
Nick Ferrari - Victory for the ex detective who accused the McCanns and Kate and Gerry McCann now facing a legal bill that some say could be half a million pounds. What is at the heart of these accusations or allegations . James Murray is Associate Editor of Sunday Express and has led that paper's coverage of this story and has had a few exclusives in his time on the story, joins us now. So what is at the heart of these allegations James, morning.
James Murray - Good morning well they stem from his book The Truth of the Lie which was published shortly after he quit which was September 2007. [WRONG] In the book he says he quoted from the Police file report which stated that it was possible that Madeleine had died in the apartment. erm now his argument is that his book was a reflection of the Police er opinion to date when he left of what had occurred and he had perfect right to publish that book. Kate and Gerry obviously contested that view and they believe that Madeleine is alive and that they certainly didn't have anything to do with it so they took legal action.
Nick Ferrari - and the heart of the - allegation - I stress, is that there was some kind of accident or incident within the apartment that caused Madeleine's death.
James Murray - Yes it was claimed in the Police report that there had been an accident within the flat 5a within the Ocean Club in Prai da Luz er which has caused the death - now that was not borne out by anything that Scotland Yard found, in fact when Scotland yard looked at it they said there was no evidence that suggests that she was dead, in fact Andy Redwood who was leading it at that time, said he believed she could well be alive. HE ALSO SAID SHE COULD HAVE DIED IN THE APARTMENT AND THAT ABDUCTION MAY NOT FIT WITH ALL OF THEIR THINKING.
Nick Ferrari - Lastly the headlines suggesting that they are looking at a legal bill of half million pounds, do you see that as likely James
James Murray - Well yes I do as Goncalo Amaral has spent a fortune defending his reputation and book and he has run up massive legal bills himself and he will be looking to get that money returned. He has had to sell his property, he is living with his father in Lisbon, er he is in pretty dire financial straits it has pretty well ruined his life all this, [TRUE] so yes he will be wanting to exact a financial settlement with the McCanns.
Nick Ferrari, many thanks associate Editor of Sunday Express led the newspaper coverage of that story and turned over a few exclusives too.

any news on your venture
Yes indeed.
I have developed a list of 3 contacts, each with a specific reach and purpose.
The next stage is trying to go up the food chain to see if I can get something better in terms of both quality of reporting and audience reach.
I have also put together a draft re terms of engagement, topics on offer, and a first 'freebie' on a plate that they can use to check on the degree of my crack-pottedness.
The bit rattling around the rear of my bonce at the moment is the McCanns. I have no intention of trying to involve them in this exercise. Goodness only knows they are going to have to put up with enough as 3 May 2017 looms. I am simply thinking of how best to forewarn them so this venture does not spring on them out of the blue.

Have you considered reporters who work for the Expresso - which I understand is a very respected newspaper in Portugal - renowned for it's editorial independence?

I wonder whether the sun might be interested in an article on amaral
I may just email them with his history
would make an interesting article

I don't think there will be any interest in your venture from any proper journalist so you needn't worry about the mccanns

The recent stories following the Supreme Court judgement have underlined the complete lack of investigative journalists in the UK. Any one of the journalists could have learned that the archiving dispatch did not clear the McCanns in 2008 had they wished to do so. Not one of them bothered, they just printed the stories they were given.

Sadly, my search for some decent quality investigative journalists tends to support this. It is an assumption, but I suspect most of them work by pulling an old story out of the file and simply tacking on a new paragraph. I have trawled through some desperately awful reporting in the last month or so.
