Yeah, they'd get a lot of money out of her. Fancy even CR would decline that one @)(++(*Anything to shut the evil b****h up would be advantageous to the search for Madeleine.

This thread has me curious how on average only 2500 pounds is spent on searching for a missing kid.Where did this factoid come from: "...£2,500 on other kids"
Is this because most are found so rapidly?
"MISSING KIDS 'SHORT CHANGED' Matthew Wright says millions have been spent on hunt for Maddie and only £2,500 on other kids"

Do you only 'care' for Madeleine ?It is not me dishing out the money or making policy. Of course I'm concerned that is why I raised the point. What is your stance?
Don't other children get a look in ?
Do you know who Karen Matthews is?I roughly know who she is.
Is it true that 300 children are not found after gone missing every year? Is that just in the UK?
No, that's completely false. In fact most under 18's who disappear are found within 48 hours. Very few children disappear completely in the UK each year and are never found. How many children have not been found after 10 years in the UK?
What is true however is that the amount of time, resources and money spent on the search for Madeleine McCann was wholly disproportionate to that spent on most other missing children cases. No wonder the parents of other missing children are so angry.
How many children have not been found after 10 years in the UK?
So rob and dave, have you done a search ?
http://www.missingkids.co.uk/01-007561
http://www.missingkids.co.uk/03-000658
..and there are plenty more.
Why just the UK ?
Madeleine disappeared in Portugal.
we did all this 2 years ago...have you forgotten
so a child mising for 10 years
Why just 10 years ???
You and rob seem fixated with this number.
if you have forgotten its how long maddie has been missing....there is no evidence taht missing children are not being looked for by the police...just the usual claptrap from sceptics
It's not quite 10 years left.
You and rob asked for cases, as you have before. You got them.
The people on that site, including children have not been found.
Madeleine is just one missing child among many. The resources allocated to her are disproportionate compared to any other case, and there is nothing to show for it either.
What would you prefer to have happened in the investigation.
No money spent.
The investigation discontinued a year or so ago.
Or the investigation halted this year before the announcement of further money to be spent.
So rob and dave, have you done a search ?But isn't the search funded by the UK tax payer? It is rather difficult to have an exact comparison to another case for there may not be another English child that has gone missing while in Portugal.

Madeleine disappeared in Portugal.
Money has been spent, a lot of money, and nothing to show for it.
Now Erngath, what about all other missing children. Shouldn't they have resources spent on them.
What about their families ?
But isn't the search funded by the UK tax payer? It is rather difficult to have an exact comparison to another case for there may not be another English child that has gone missing while in Portugal.
You answer my question first and then I will answer yours.
It was related to the effort put in by the family. True, some other families may not have been that keen for the truth to be known so it fades out of the limelight.
It's not quite 10 years yet.

All missing children should be investigated.
Haven't you worked that out for yourself already. I have made myself quite clear on that.
What remains unclear though, is why some people believe that disproportionate amounts of money should be given to one case above all others.
Funded by the tax payer, yes, but authorized initially by Cameron. It will be based on some political dispute between Portugal and England that is at the heart of it. The countries are trading partners etc and in the end the few dollars spent on searching for Madeleine are in effect a way of bringing Portugal up to standard.
I appreciate that you want all the cases of missing children to be investigated thoroughly as do I.It will happen sure enough.
However as the amount of money spenton this investigation gives you cause for concern I well repeat my question to you.
Should the investigation by NSY never have been investigated and therefore no money spent.
Should the investigation ceased when half of the money had been spent.
Should it have been halted this year before the extra money was added.

How do you know what effort was put in by other families. That was in Cyprus basically a war zone, how much could the British do without upsetting the Turks?
What about the Needhams ?
They received B.A. until fairly recently, when public pressure resulted in resources being allocated.
The case should be investigated as should others, and it has.
I have no objection to that.
Perhaps we should ask John on what criterion are used in determining the length of an investigation.
I have no problem with a case being shelved, pending further information, which could then be re-opened.However, as we know, police forces have ever diminishing resources, and what is clear at the moment, is that the case hasn't achieved it's objectives.
That was in Cyprus basically a war zone, how much could the British do without upsetting the Turks?
So really you don't mind the amount spent but you want the same amount spent on other missing children.
The two cases you highlighted were of children who have been missing over forty years. I would hope these cases were reviewed from time to time. do the police have to declare the amount spent on each missing person? I imagine the search and investigation for the missing RAF man must now be proving to be very costly.
We cannot know how much progress has been made in Madeleine's case until it is completed unless you are privy to all of the facts.
I didn't say that, did I.
By the way, if you had looked on the website I linked to, there are many more cases of missing children.
I suggest you have a look.
Operation Grange are looking for either a child trafficking gang or an ex Ocean Club employee, we are told. In other words, they still have a few wild geese to chase. Suggesting that the clearly clueless operation should cease isn't anti Madeleine, it's pro common sense. On what basis do you state that the leads they are following are "wild geese" chases? What inside information do you possess to enable you to make such an evaluation?

What makes you think I'm interested in "Justice 4 Maddie"? As far as I can recall I've never called her Maddie, never used 4 to replace for and never called for justice. Are you mixing me up with others again?Oh dear how precious. Are you not interested in Justice for Madeleine? Simple question. If you are not, fair enough. If you are, perhaps you can explain how your desire for the case to be put back on the shelf marked "unsolved" helps achieve this?

I don't know why you think it's 'precious'.Have you been working on the case for 7 years? It didn't help having the lead investigator so muddled. Kate and Gerry should have been made arguidos from day 1 so the tough questions could have been asked immediately.
To see those who were involved in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann receive their just desserts would be very satisfying. After seven years of investigation it seems highly unlikely to happen, however. Sometimes what people want is simply unattainable.
I don't know why you think it's 'precious' to refuse to play your word games.I didn't ask you to play a word game, I asked a simple question, using terminology that has oft been used by sceptics to describe their online crusade. I don't know why you should be so apparently offended by it.

This case is so far from the norm that it ingenders its own conspiracies. Once the parents saw fit to employ private investigators contrary to Portuguese law and once their involvement with Metodo 3 and Correia was revealed the entire status of this case should have been reviewed. Why would the McCanns have to abide by Portuguese law after they had returned to the UK?

I note that despite your claim to want to see those involved in Madeleine's disappearance receive their "just desserts" that you also want the case to be shelved, ensuring that justice is even less likely to happen than if the investigation continues. I find that rather odd, but each to their own I guess.

Reviewed by whom?
I'm not offended by the term Justice 4 Maddie, just annoyed by your continual attempts to suggest that anyone who questions the McCann narrative is a member of some group or other. Some people think for themselves, reach their own conclusions and express them as individuals. I subscribe and/or belong to no groups whatsoever, as I have made clear before. Do try and remember it so we don't keep repeating ourselves. That's a bit silly isn't it? Surely if the police are actively investigating the case it is more likely that the case will be solved than if nobody is investigating it?
I don't think continuing will result in justice being more likely to be achieved than if the investigation is shelved.
By SY. It has been established that there was a conspiracy to have the investigation coordinator removed and McCann operatives M3 were at the heart of it. That involvement should be investigated.
That's a bit silly isn't it? Surely if the police are actively investigating the case it is more likely that the case will be solved than if nobody is investigating it?
Established by whom?
Every case is different and depends on many factors, not least being who shouts loudest.
Kerry Needham has shouted for twenty years, and only recently were funds allocated for an investigation.
Did she receive help from previous P.M.'s, prior to Cameron's involvement, after pressure was applied ?
I should have added that friends in high places helps.
Are you disputing the Correia involvement in an attempt to undermine Amaral?
That's a bit silly isn't it? Surely if the police are actively investigating the case it is more likely that the case will be solved than if nobody is investigating it?

Oh right!
That's what you mean by "established".
So you wanted SY to "review" this "established" evidence?
If parents can add anything to a search and if they think they may be able to assist in a police investigation particularly in areas where intensive searches are required with limited manpower available I don't see a problem with that.(https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/UdotpvzizQr0B5BQ_Av4SQ--/Zmk9c3RyaW07aD0xMjM7cHlvZmY9MDtxPTgwO3c9MjIwO3NtPTE7YXBwaWQ9eXRhY2h5b24-/http://media.zenfs.com/en-GB/homerun/the_telegraph_818/ac48ef55295293a9b98aa92f2ca6724d)
That is what Corrie McKeague's mother was able to do and if the searches she organised failed to find her son at least the ground covered by them was eliminated. Thus freeing up the police to carry out much needed official searches in probable sites volunteers have neither the access or the necessary skills to search.
Corrie's mother is a serving police officer with Police Scotland so knew what she was about.(http://news.images.itv.com/image/file/1184005/article_img.jpg)
The McCanns conducted a different type of search for Madeleine requiring different techniques and this involved private detectives.
I agree with you that Madeleine's case should have been reviewed, probably not for the same reason as you. Just as I think Corrie's case will probably be reviewed and lessons learnt.
I want the guilty prosecuted.
When a case has been investigated for seven years with no result carrying on seems like a waste of resources to me. There's no sign of progress so no sign of success. If the situation changes the investigation can always be resumed.
As for searching, when was the last time Professor McCann went to Portugal to search for his missing child?
And do what exactly?
Corrie McKeague vanished in a clearly defined area. His progress was recorded on CCTV. His mobile phone sent out a signal which was tracked.
Whereabouts in Portugal should Gerry start digging with his bare hands?
The McCanns have moved heaven and earth in their search for Madeleine. When one witnesses what they have been put through to get to where we are in investigating her case one can see why the question might be asked "Why ... ? ? ?"
I know I wouldn't have been capable of withstanding the loss of a child and keeping the search alive while suffering even one iota of the opprobrium they have slung at them every day of their lives ... I don't know of anyone who could.
The Mccann's have 'moved heaven and earth' .
When have they done that ?
With respect that is nonsense.
You will probably find that a case will be investigated as long as it is possible to follow investigative opportunities. Only when these have been checked and eliminated and there are no more to follow would it be considered appropriate to put the investigation onto the back burner.
Why does it offend that active lines of investigation are open and being followed in respect of Madeleine McCann? Is there an underlying worry that it may be possible to find out what happened to her particularly as it is evident neither the Policia Judiciaria or Scotland Yard are at all interested in pursuing her parents?
The Mccann's have 'moved heaven and earth' .Exactly! All those visits to Portugual to spend with lawyers, they never once said we are looking for Madeleine while we are here, nor did they take the opportunity to highlight the dangers of leaving babies alone at night in Portugual.
When have they done that ?
When a case has been investigated for seven years with no result carrying on seems like a waste of resources to me. There's no sign of progress so no sign of success. If the situation changes the investigation can always be resumed.
There's a case in Scotland where the young lad disappeared in 1976 and his case is still open
The differences between the Maddie and the Ben cases are startling. Kerry Needham is an inspiration frankly.
There's a case in Scotland where the young lad disappeared in 1976 and his case is still open
Yes and?
The point is. Madeliene went missing in Portugual, it is a portuguese investivgation.
I have no problem with cases being 'open' awaiting further new information. I have a problem with spending millions of hard earned cash on one child when many thousands are relying on food banks. It really is a disgrace.
The Portuguese have primacy in this case. I think sometimes supporters forget that. What has that got to do with the post I wrote that you replied to?

I'm not offended or worried, what strange ideas. If I thought that Operation Grange were following productive lines of investigation I would be very pleased, but they have been credited with imminent success too many times for me to have much faith in their abilities. I can't assess the PJ investigation as they have very wisely kept their activities to themselves.Who has credited them with imminent success too many times? The Met themselves?
Just because no one has informed you of what progress has been made in this case doesn't mean there hasn't been any.
I have seen no signs of progress, unless 'maybe' identifying Tannerman counts. The four of them may be hot on the heels of someone, but I doubt it.
We don't know what progress has been made. Madeleine is a British child and deserves a British investigation to find her.

I think the support for the SY investigation is more nationalistic. As posted elsewhere..."We don't know what progress has been made. Madeleine is a British child and deserves a British investigation to find her." That sounds like Gerry speaking!

Quite obviously you think you know more about operational matters than Scotland Yard do. Bearing in mind that they have obviously asked for and received more funding to pursue whatever and whoever they are in the process of investigating.
Madeleine McCann was a child ... a young person now if she has survived ... who the police stopped looking for as we now know a few months after her disappearance, the focus of the investigative strategy becoming her parents.
Of those 'other missing children' who have not received home office funding 'like Madeleine McCann', which one had a case conducted as Madeleine's was? Which one was written off as being dead without evidence? Which one of them had his/her case halted before all investigative opportunities had been carried through to conclusion? Which one's parents had to employ private detectives because the police were not doing their job?
Madeleine McCann is only now receiving attention commensurate with the enormity of the crime carried out against her.
If the police are forced to close down the investigation, in common with the parents of 'all the other missing children' the McCanns will know that all was done that could be done.
That was denied her in 2007.

Perhaps it would be fairer if there was a Missing Persons budget. Every single person who goes missing, whether they are 3 years old or 30 gets the exact same amount allocated to the search for them and then once the money's gone, that's it. That will stop the complaints won't it?
It would certainly be fairer.Yes, and we could apply it to ALL crime solving. A set budget for every case of fraud, burglary, murder, child abuse, rape, etc. It would certainly be VERY fair as far as apportioning funds to each case is concerned. Do you think this is a good idea?

I can tell you what we shouldn't be doing. We shouldn't be scaling back investigations into missing children in this country while allocating more funds to a disappearance that we do not have primacy over and therefore no power to prosecute anyone at all, no matter what the outcome.

It does happen. Certain forces have been downgrading 999 calls recently because of lack of resources."It does happen"? So, at the outset of a missing persons enquiry a "missing persons" budget will be set and then when the budget is spent, that's it - case shelved? I'd like a cite for that please.

So you'd be all for MORE money being spent on missing children investigations not less then, I take it?
Ideally of course but realistically I'd rather see a fairer distribution than seems to be happening at the moment. Don't you agree?I think each case has to be judged individually and funding allocated as appropriate. I don't think that there should be a set amount per missing person, particularly as not all missing people go missing as a result of criminal activity involving abduction, kidnap, abuse and murder. Cases where there is a strong likelihood of foul play being involved should take precedence and more resources devoted to them, particularly where young children are involved or where there is a strong suspicion that the perpetrator may go on to commit other similar crimes.
It's a fact. I think each case has to be judged individually and funding allocated as appropriate.
Lack of opportunity is a great prevention, leaving your children alone at night is not a risk worth taking.Pathetic, cheap shot.
Perhaps the McCanns can have a poster of them looking sad, telling all those who live in a 'culture' claimed by the McCanns; that to leave your children alone at night asleep while you go out to enjouy yourselves is a bad idea.
Nope didn't think so. they did nothing wrong according to them and their PR and fan club.
Pathetic, cheap shot.
No, it would have been something positive out of the case.Pathetic, cheap shot.

So you don't think the McCanns publicising the dangers of leaving your children alone would have been useful? They did, repeatedly and often. Kate even wrotea bestselling book about what happened to her kid when she left her alone - maybe you didn't hear about it?
Perhaps someone should commission a series of posters of parents of missing or dead children, showing them looking sad with warnings underneath eg: Ben Needhams grandparents and April Jones' mum "Don't let your child play outside unsupervised", or Jamie Bulger's mum "Don't let go of your child's hand when out shopping" - how would that be? Then we can slot the McCanns into that ad campaign. Because of course parents need telling don't they? I mean, just look at all the people who, having seen what happened to Madeleine now leave their kids unattended in holiday resorts. It's virtually an epidemic isn't it?

Sounds a good idea. Missing People could organise it.Are you for real?
Doesn't cut it.Why not? Why do you think people need posters of the McCanns telling them not to do something? Do you really think parents need advice from the McCanns in the form of posters? Say you do and give me a good laugh!
I have a better idea, one that will I'm sure be popular with the subset of McCanns sceptics that act like the baying mob, with their frothing at the mouth, fangs beared: make the McCanns wear sandwich boards with "We are bad parents, don't do what we did or your kid will disappear" written on them, and then make them spend all day every day walking up and down Oxford Street, for the next 20 years. And then when 20 years is up, make them do it for another 20.
Sandwich boards bit tacky even for the cheapo holiday seeking McCanns .OXFORD street, hell No! anywhere in Liverpool though. However an acknowledgement of their 'mistake' to those who share their 'culture' of leaving their children alone would be a benefit I am sure. They are revered by people who behave just like them and they are ambassadors for 'missing' children after all.SO you would like the McCanns to create a PR package (poster, flyer, whatever) addressed to their "fanclub" urging them to stop leaving their kids unattended to "go on the piss" because unless the McCanns point out that it is foolish to do so, their fanclub (which is renowned for leaving children unattended whilst on holiday) will continue to do it because they wish to emulate their heroes, even if it means losing a child, is that the long and the short of it?

Madeleine's mother spends a great deal of time helping the families of other missing people with whom she shares an empathy.
Madeleine's father has a day job ... at which I believe he excels.
What a tremendous pity that you choose to drag a charity, founded to help publicise the missing and give succour to their families, into a diatribe directed at an individual who has a connection with it for very obvious and sad reasons.
Kate McCann puts time and she puts effort into doing the best she can to assist the children you and others think may be short changed and neglected by the system.
If you and others are genuinely concerned about their plight I am sure there are practical and rewarding ways of offering your assistance.
The Missing People Charity does not need to be used as a battering ram to vent spleen on one of their families. They have more pressing issues to consider.

Wouldn't it be better to try and ruduce the number going missing. If one missing person was prevented surely it would be worth it. As we are constantly told you can't put a price on a life.Would that be something like birth control.
