Kickstarter appears to involve an upfront funding scheme.

I don't know what SM was involved in or what will be revealed in the book. All I will say is that the timing of this book is a little strange with no empathy for Madeleine or her family being expressed in the trailer.

I have not met Mr Malinka. We did try on the last Luz Tour, but we were told he was out on business.
I have not met Mr Jones. My better half has met Mr Jones and was at one time trying to do a business deal with Mr Malinka, but the latter did not come to fruition.
I recognise a couple of the locations. Both are very near his estate agency in Lagos. I assume that he was hugging his mother and father, but that scene was far too quick for me to be sure. The other scene is an island for ducks in a lake about 200m away.

I hope that he manages to accrue the necessary funding to proceed, despite the fact the book will not be available until June 2018. I am seriously interested in reading his version of events.

The pledges pay for a copy of the book when it's released. If the target isn't met by 19/12/17 the book will not be published & no money will be taken from those who have pledged. Thereafter, it will be up to the author to fulfil his obligations.

A reminder...
Although he reportedly vanished from Praia da Luz soon after he was questioned, it seems he returned soon afterwards.
Back in 2013, Malinka, now 29, was once again summoned for questioning by DCI Redwood’s team of crack Scotland Yard detectives. He was interviewed at Faro on 2 and 3 July. Murat was quoted at the time as saying that Malinka was ‘a hardworking and nice guy’ and that treating Malinka as a suspect was ‘disgusting and ridiculous’.
It will be interesting to hear what he has to say in his book. But then why a book, why not just publish his story on the internet which after all is read by most people these days? hmmmm...

I notice that the individual who created the KickStarter page, Dmitry Laier, is also seeking funds to create a new card game. I do hope these aren't scams?

Posted by PORTUGALPRESS on November 23, 2017 New book threatens to expose “lies, bribery, blackmail and defamation” in case of world’s most famous missing person
It’s called “Madeleine McCann” Collateral Damage and it promises “new facts” in the decade-long mystery over the three-year-old who went missing from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
But far from setting out to solve the puzzle, the project is designed to set the record straight, says its author - redress some of the consequences of the media circus that has blighted lives since that fateful day in May, 2007.
Written by Sergey Malinka, the book is essentially his way of trying to move on. The 33-year-old computer technician has just become a father. He wants his two-month-old son ***** to be able to live a normal life, he told the Resident. He doesn’t want his child to type his father’s name into a search engine in a few years time and simply see hundreds of references to Malinka’s so-called involvement in the disappearance of the world’s most famous missing person.
Although drawn into the mystery from the start - even being re-interviewed as an arguido (‘formal suspect’) six years later - Malinka has been formally dropped from police inquiries.
He has in the past also successfully sued for defamation in the press.
But the shadow of this seemingly endless mystery has blighted his life for far too long.
The arrival of *****, along with belief that “still there are no conclusive leads” has led him to take the initiative and write his story.
In Malinka’s online pitch on KickStarter - a kind of crowd-funding platform for creative projects - he explains that he has chosen this way of getting the book out as “we know, from the past 10 years, that whatever you write could be banned from the public access”.
He believes KickStarter will ensure “the book will be released and people will get it in the original state”.
It has “a lot of sensitive information”, he added, along with “the most revealing details about my story” … “all the difficulties, the bribery, the threatening, the blackmailing, the defamation and just general aggravation from public that I have passed through”.
Indeed, the Russian who now has Portuguese nationality says he hopes the story - edited by local resident and author David S. Jones - will help anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation in the future and “doesn’t know what to do”
In Malinka’s case, the past led him to the depths of despair, he explains.
“For 10 years I've kept quiet hoping to see some closure, but now I see that without my input this would never stop”.
By ‘this’ he refers to the slurs against his name that remain ‘out there’ in the ether, unchallenged.
“Madeleine McCann” Collateral Damage means to change all that, and anyone interested in supporting this initiative can read more about it via:

Why a book though? If his intention was merely to set the record straight then an internet-savvy guy like him could set up a website blog and publish all the facts much better and reach a much wider audience than any book. He could also do it on a shoestring rather than the €1000's required to publish and distribute a book in multiple jurisdictions. Is it a case of paper having more credibility than cyberspace?
Could the truth be as elusive as Madeleine's fate?

More like about a financial return if kickstarter is involved

I wondered about that too, but suppose that a website could be easily hacked and altered, whereas a book in paper form can't be.

I'm not convinced, davel could well be right about there being a financial incentive, maybe Sergey will let us know.
Why should he and what does it matter anyway? With a bit of luck this may not be a rehash of the same old same old and might provide an insight from a different viewpoint.

True. Do you have a problem with enterprise and profit?
Absolutely no problem with it at all as long as there is honesty......don't like people claiming honourable reasons for writing a book when the real reason is to profit

One can never say never until you have an admission of guilt, but certainly no longer of interest - except perhaps to those who would like to shift the blame.

Try going to Kickstarter, and use the button to start up a project.
You will be asked for certain details. Amongst them a valid bank account, and your permanent country of residence (PCR). Neither Portugal nor Russia are accepted as PCRs. So someone, presumably Dmitry, has a valid bank account in a PCR that Kickstarter accepts.

DOISGALOES
I use to design a website for him. The book I write is my story and collateral damage that this case inflicted on many innocent people and Algarve in general.
Robert is not my friend, I did a job for him that f....ing ruined my life. You said you followed the case for 10 years - did it f..ked up your life in any way, or stop you from succeeding in life? The answer is NO! Also people like you - saying oddball, weird, geek, suspicious is the reason this case is so f..ked up. It's easy to judge from your PC chair, try to live my life for past 10 years, you wouldn't make it my friend. The only public domain for real information is PJ original file in Portuguese, the rest is white noise. If I reach my goal and successfully publish the book I will use my case to make an example of how lack of law create individuals that think they are above the law.
A friend is someone you hang out with, not just build a website and have coffee here and there.
I will donate the excess if there will be any, to those in need. Most of the statements written about me is lies. I can do prove it, I can take polygraph test any day.
I have never mentioned that I am the only victim in this case, that's why the book called "Collateral Damage", it's about the community that suffers even today from media money fulled frenzy. Money is important for any civilized person, but not in this case, however, to print the book and to pay a ghostwriter I need some funds. Also this is the only beginning of my story. Follow this channel to see more videos expressing MY and GENERAL point of view about this case.
Nothing proves sexual predator or burglary theory unless parents start cooperating with both PT and UK police. I want closure more than anything, no matter how ugly or unexpected it might be.

My life as a Madeleine McCann suspect': Russian computer expert reveals the threats, 'blackmail and bribery' he faced after being probed by cops over girl's disappearance.
Sergey Malinka, 32, was named as a suspect after Maddy went missing in 2007
Detectives noted he contacted another suspect shortly after her disappearance
His name was raised again in 2014 when Scotland Yard officers questioned him
Malinka was cleared of all suspicion, but says he endured 'bribes and threats'
He has teamed up with British author David S Jones to write Collateral Damage
Police are still investigating 10 years after Madeleine McCann, 3, disappeared

By Shari Miller PUBLISHED: 3 December 2017
A Russian computer expert named as a suspect in the Madeleine McCann case is set to reveal the 'bribing, threatening and blackmailing' he claims he endured in a new book about the long-running investigation. Sergey Malinka, 32, was named by Portuguese police as an aguido, or suspect, shortly after Madeleine disappeared in Praia da Luz, in 2007. He became a person of interest after detectives noted that he had contacted another suspect at 11.30pm on May 3, 2007, around an hour-and-a-half after police were first called over the missing three-year-old.
Malinka was also said to have fitted the description of a man seen close to the hotel where the McCanns were staying. His apartment was searched and computers seized. Malinka's car was then firebombed and the word 'Fala', meaning 'speak' scrawled in red paint outside his apartment. At the time, Malinka said: 'The disappearance of a child is always difficult. No parent would want any of that to happen to anyone.
So I wish and truly hope that Madeleine will be found and returned to her parents. 'I have a clear conscience. I have nothing to worry about.' Then in 2014, Malinka's name was briefly raised again as a suspect because of an investigation by Scotland Yard detectives. While he was told he was no longer under suspicion, Malinka claims there has been an impact on his business and personal life from being connected to the investigation.
Now a decade on, he has teamed up with British author David S. Jones, the co-creator of popular children's series, Fireman Sam, and who also lives in Praia da Luz, to write Collateral Damage, a book about his experiences. Malinka, who is set to become a father, said he wants to clear his name so that his child does not have to grow up in the shadow of suspicion that has hung over him for a decade. Announcing his intention to publish the book next year via Kickstarter, Malinka said in a video: 'There was alot of slandering and facts that weren't checked. 'Ten years has passed, but every time I think about this it's very difficult for me. 'You will find out the most revealing details about my story – the bribing, the threatening, the blackmailing, the defamation and just general aggravation from the public.'
Speaking to the Sunday Express, he added: 'I was 22 years old when it happened, a young man alone in a foreign country.
'I have been driven to the point of dejection, being involved in a web of lies, betrayals and threats. 'The deceits of others have driven me to the edge of despair, sometimes to the point of no return, but time heals even the deepest wounds.'
The search to discover what happened to Madeleine McCann - Operation Grange - is one of the longest, most high-profile and costly police investigations in history. Launched in May 2011, officers have sifted (and translated) 40,000 documents produced by Portuguese police who conducted the initial investigation, and by the eight teams of private detectives who have worked on the case. Some 600 'persons of interest' have been examined and 'sightings' of Madeleine — in Brazil, India, Morocco and Paraguay, on a German plane and in a New Zealand supermarket — assessed.
The team have taken 1,338 statements and collected 1,027 exhibits. Officers have probed more than 60 people of interest while the team has considered 650 sex offenders. In total, there have been 8,685 potential sightings of Madeline across the globe. Over the past few months, the Grange team — now down to four detectives from a peak of 31 — has been criss-crossing Europe trying to locate a 'woman in purple', who is of interest to the investigation. Their budget had been due to run out in September, but officers are understood to have used the 'woman in purple' line of investigation to persuade the Home Office — which is financing the inquiry from central government funds — to grant a six-month extension. The £154,000 agreed will allow inquiries to continue until March, taking the total spent on Operation Grange near to £12million.
[Editor comment. Malinka lived with his parents at the time of Madeleine's disappearance and had many contacts through his computer business so the 'young man alone in a foreign country' claim is just a tad tenuous and hollow.]

Sergey Malinka was not questioned as an arguido ... therefore he is wrong to claim he was questioned as a suspect.
If he brings his child up in Portugal ... the question of 'clearing his name' would not be an issue ... the child no doubt would understand Portuguese law and if that was not sufficient, the substantial amount he received in damages for defamation should in my opinion reinforce any argument he might be forced to make.

I tend to agree. He and the creator of the Kickstart page, an individual named as Dmitry Laier, were asked on twitter why he doesn't simply write a blog and so publish his revelations in that manner without the huge cost involved in publishing a book but they have chosen not to respond. Says it all really!
Another question which Malinka might find just a little bit difficult to explain is why he used so many aliases after he moved to Portugal?
I must admit I have my reservations.

Seemingly he used them to register websites and in other computer/internet related activities. Look up Nik Legalhoff, the name he used to create Robert Murats website Romigen.
There is also Nikolai Fedorenko and Petrov Ivan Nikolaevich. Most of the websites associated with Malinka, including niklegaloff.com, seem to have disappeared by early 2008.
I don't think anyone has ever suggested that there was criminal conduct associated with these aliases but they raise questions all the same.

Someone started this rumour around a decade ago. I'm fairly sure I remember who it was, but I doubt that I've kept anything to substantiate and so I won't mention the person's name. Suffice to say this person came up with new conspiracy theories every week.
I can't remember who two of them are, nor even whether I bothered examining the issue, but one was a photographer and looks nothing like Malinka. He may have simply been setting up a web site for him.

He certainly wasn't an arguido back in 2007. IMO (as I'm not certain) he could have requested or been given arguido status for the purposes of the Op Grange rogatory interviews.
Normally, an arguido would retain the status until the end of the investigation. However, I did check into PT law on this at the time of those rogs, and there was no provision either way on this "grey" area (of interviews conducted by the PJ on behalf of a foreign agency). It may well therefore have been a special temporary arrangement.

That's an easy one, he came to their attention because of his involvement with arguido Robert Murat.

"Nope" & "coz" are not 2 words I would expect a Portuguese Russian to be familiar with. Possibly there is more than one contributor to the account.

Malinka appears to have backtracked on his comments towards the PJ and Amaral.
"Also, I think I was a bit harsh in my last saying about PJ and GA, Bennet had a field day :) In fairness to the situation, I didn't like how I was treated by PJ, but I understand why they have done it. I don't hold a life to GA!"

Portuguese police discredited itself the long time ago, and believe you me I could easily go to the media or ministry of justice and would tell how I was treated by Amaral and his coworkers that day in an interrogation room. And if I would he would more problems that defending his book from McCanns. Plus he wouldn't look like a knight in shining armor after he beating up scared Russian boy, would he?
Are you now also telling us that Amaral had you locked in a car all day, without food and water, and had you beaten up? Not him, but his colleagues did. The officer who got physical with me was called Pereira. Amaral was bang out of order as well at the end of the interrogation, to be honest.
so which is the truth...what will be in his book...he doesnt seem to know himself

Perhaps we should wait for his book then.
I feel sure the Mccanns will get criticized as well.
After all, but for them, we would never heard of Malinka, WOULD WE. 8)--))

Gosh - that's pretty serious stuff! As someone who has received compensation for libel himself - would he want to make such allegations if they also were libellous? He even goes as far as to name someone!

interesting...according to the havern site sergey believes Maddie was abducted
Yes. That's probably why he's been banned & waved off with one of Bennett's infamous poems. Is it any wonder that no sane individual in Luz on 3/5/07 would now even consider speaking out about anything they knew, given the treatment meted out in certain quarters?

He seems to have been banned. Inevitable after his criticism of the PJ and his apparent belief in abduction.
It appears that the entire Malinka thread has been removed from public viewing as have all of Malinka's recent posts. You could always try the wayback machine.

Thank you John but the thought of seeing again that adaptation of "tis the season" prevents me from venturing there. All will be revealed when the book is published........if it ever is.

I wonder if it has anything to do with my noticing that the extended safety pavement at the top of the steps the Smiths came up had seemingly been moved ,.... Moved to a place that is no longer safety-wise sensible .... and my commenting on that ?
A place that ( ?co-incidentally? ) makes a nonsense of Aoifes witness statement. *%6^

Seems the Malinka threads have been made public again. For his part however, Malinka has been banned for posting profanities on the Havern forum, and it was all going so well.
Not sure what you mean. That someone was impersonating him on there? If so, that seems unlikely in my opinion, judging by his Twitter feed. If ever that's fake as well, it's still clearly him in the video clips, promoting his book.

From reading around,Amaral and Murat supposedly joined 3a's what ever that was,you never know who is who.

Ah. lol
That was years ago. I never worked out what was true or not, either. The only thing I'm certain of having seen (and no, I really don't feel like spending the entire day hunting for it) is a short video clip involving Sofia Amaral (GA's wife) praising some site or other for their support. I'm fairly sure which one, but perhaps someone else could help me out with that one.
Re Malinka, I have no reason to doubt that it really is (or rather was) him.

@ John
It looks like your scepticism re Sergey Malinka is being proved ever more correct day by day.
One of the questions we [on CMOMM] put to Malinka during his brief sojourn with us was whether he would confirm or deny the statement made by Robert Murat on 11 July 2007 to the PJ that he was with Malinka (and Michaela Walczuk) in the Batista supermarket café on the morning of Wednesday 2 May, and that the two men then left the café together, while Walczuk went her separate way. He was evasive and would not give a straight answer as to whether his friend Murat was correct or not.
(Incidentally, it should be recalled that this was Murat's second statement. He made his first one on 15 May, the date he was made an arguido. On that occasion, he had told the PJ he had been somewhere completely different. In fact, he had to change his first statement in at least 17 material respects, his hand being forced by the PJ confronting him with the mobile antenna pings from his mobile 'phone, which showed that on several occasions during those 3 days he was miles away from where he had claimed to be).
Upthread, 'Miss Taken Identity' said of Malinka's promo video: "His video is good".
And so it is. It is a professionally produced, polished narrative, illustrated with drone footage of a clearly depressed Malinka trudging across some Algarve scrub-land. The images of a drowning man struggling and trying and then succeeding in resurfacing are artful. The scenes are carefully cut and woven together with a convincing narrative. Which runs thus:
"Poor me. Thrust innocently into the spotlight due to a simple misunderstanding about a missed phone call. All on my own with no family or friends to support me, a lonely Russian faced with hostile forces and media which have ruined my career".
One of Malinka's many problems is that his narrative is simply untrue, given all that we now know about his various business ventures.
Moreover, his friend and co-author & co-promoter David S Jones must also know that Malinka's promo video bears little relation to the facts.
One also has to wonder how he will fare if these allegations (quoted by Bernice upthread) are ever printed in a book:
MALINKA: Portuguese police discredited itself the long time ago, and believe you me I could easily go to the media or ministry of justice and would tell how I was treated by Amaral and his coworkers that day in an interrogation room [nothing, not even bread or water]. And if I would he would more problems that defending his book from McCanns. Plus he wouldn't look like a knight in shining armor after he beating up scared Russian boy, would he?
CMOMM MEMBER: Are you now also telling us that Amaral had you locked in a car all day, without food and water, and had you beaten up?
MALINKA: Not him, but his colleagues did. The officer who got physical with me was called Pereira. Amaral was bang out of order as well at the end of the interrogation, to be honest.

Was Malinka one of the many pushed from CMOMM, as I was, or did he jump? Perhaps I should ask him.

I take it the reference to "car" in the sentence "locked in a car all day" is a typo error and that it should read "locked in a cell all day" instead?
Title: Re: Sergey Malinka writing a book

Malkinka did mention being 'held in a car', and then later he wrote that he had been 'locked up all day' with not even bread and water.
He made a number of other specific allegations about PJ police brutality. He used the word 'tortured'.
Fair enough, possibly he meant a police van, purpose built for carrying detainees. We have asked him directly on twitter why he is using an address in Spain to circumvent Kickstarter's rules on residency, him being a Portuguese resident and all that, but he appears to have lost the inclination to respond again. So much for openness and transparency.
One final point, you mentioned previously that my scepticism may be warranted. I'm afraid my knowledge of the Russian mafia while in Spain has left me extremely suspicious of any young Russian involved in computer services. Malinka may well be an innocent in all of this but his refusal to answer the simplest of questions when he has previously offered to do so does him no favours.

The project has now been closed by the creator.
For the record, it reached €1,078, with €30,000 requested. I am sure I was getting figures in dollars before, but these are definitely Euro amounts.
It would appear there is a limited appetite to pay a relatively large sum for Mr Malinka's side of this case.

Yes, lack of support and embarrassment have forced him to close his naked appeal for money. It has also left big question marks about who exactly is behind the 'Kickstarter' project - it is either one of his close associates, or perhaps Sergey Malinka himself under one of his many aliases.
For the record, here is the Twitter announcement last night from @doisgaloes = Sergey Malinka:
I am canceling my Kickstarter campaign tonight. Thank you all who supported me in this venture. I will continue to write the book by myself for now and keep you all updated. Kickstarter would no charge any of backers credit cards. Thank you all for your support. #mccann #McCann

If Sergey Malinka was really interested in getting the truth out there all he had to do was to publish it on the internet. Somehow I'm not convinced though.
