It would be impossible to know how many files are missing. If Kate's black bag witness is true then very important witness statements are being held back. That kind of statement is what I've been looking for (to fit in with my theory) and now I can't see it.

which chapter is it in as the kindle version does not have page numbers

It's in 5th September part.
A witness claimed to have seen Gerry and me carrying a big black bag and acting suspiciously. This was absolute nonsense, but ‘evidence’ of this kind came down to one person’s word against another.
But there's no witness in the files claiming this. As, contrary to Mrs McCann's book, no mention in the Tapas register book that the kids were left alone in the flats. As, contrary to Mrs McCann's book, there is no allusion in the files to British kids having been molested in their beds by paedophiles in the Algarve.
The McCanns had access to the files through the same DVD available on line.

On Crimewatch, SY showed a map of the town with lots of sightings marked on it and one of them is of two men at 11pm.
Is it not possible that this is simply two of the group during the first searches? If they talk loudly which is not surprising and to be expected in the emergency search for a missing child, and the witness mistakenly interprets this as arguing.

Yes pushing the timeline on (Kate leaving tapas bar to check) to 10pm is for obvious reasons but if they have got other eyewitnesses to come forward then they will be looking into the disappearance of another between 10-10.15pm.
“I remember the steak being here sort of just before Kate came back”.
I was aware she’d gone,  at what exact point, again, it’s got to be between quarter to ten and ten o’clock, somewhere in that time period”.

Its no different to Martin Smith saying they saw the carrier at 10pm, then tells newspapers it was between 9.45 and 9.50.
I have not yet seen the the newspaper report that says between 9.45 and 9.50.
I think 9.50 is the earliest time I have seen so far.

'There are 38 known sex offenders in the Algarve,' the source said. 'The area is a magnet for paedophiles. There have been seven sexual assaults involving the children of tourists in the Algarve in the last four years.

They all have the same modus operandi as Madeleine's disappearance - that is, a break-in at a holiday apartment and children molested.

'Five happened before Madeleine's abduction, and two afterwards. One took place a month before she vanished.'

The McCanns' detectives have learnt their names from a combination of the Portuguese police files and their own inquiries.

Bill Henderson, the British consul in the region. He told the McCanns shortly after the abduction that there had been "several cases of men getting into bed with children". (was that first hand knowledge?)

When police made public their files on the case in the summer of 2008, Mrs McCann discovered five cases of British children being sexually abused in their beds while on holiday and while their parents slept in another room.

Kate : "When she was first stolen, paedophiles were all we could think about..."

Not, "I really hope Madeleine is found safe & well"

Googling to investigate this, I found this very old story that has some remarkable parallels to today's anxities about the Algarve and the PJ investigation;

The Rachel Charles case, commented on this forum, has nothing to do with a strange perpetrator introducing himself in a child's bedroom. She was the victim of a familiar.

Thank you Aiofe.  Well worth a read.  And mentions corruption by the Police

I had read it before and other articles about the same case.  A shocking case.

This also links with our Parliamentary record, Hansard, which records Michael Cooks MP,  Dr Robert Spink, who took the injustices up with Government

To read, scroll down a bit until you get to column 282 ... Mr Michael Cook.

Just before 10pm the last mother arrived to collect her child from the creche and mentioned that she had just bumped into a man, who had been shouting a name.

"She didn't get the name, but she said it sounded something like 'Abbey, Gabby or Maddie'. We automatically went into lost-child procedure. In these situations, the first thing we do is investigate the scene. (Charlotte Pennington)

Outdoor searches for Madeleine started before 10pm from this statement.

Smithman carrying a child in his arms checked his watch after passing the Smith family and the time was 10:03. Both are still unidentified 10 years later.

Anyone who can read those statements and then claim they were all lying their heads off and that Kate and Gerry's distress was all put on  - needs to have a word with themselves IMO.    The whole group would have to be mega oscar winning actors for that to be true.   Is that remotely likely?   Not a chance IMO.

I have too much respect for the Actors or I would propose those for an Oscar for the best performance ever.

But actors, by definition, only perform well if they don't feel what they represent. This is the necessary distance Brecht speaks about. These people really lost a child, they didn't need to act their pain, they couldn't but show it.

Witness statement of the Tapas waiter

 Processos Vol XI
Pages 2941-2944

Ricardo Alexandre da Luz Oliveira

Date: 2007.09.07

He served Russell and shortly thereafter, he was alerted to strange movements in the restaurant perimeters. He refers to the movements of two men from said group - David Payne and Matthew, who appeared to be searching the gardens the areas near the bar. The witness went to the esplanade zone and saw that the table that had previously been occupied by nine adults was now occupied only by the older woman, called Dianne Webster. It was also at this time that he saw that Russell's food was only half eaten and that the others had all finished their dinner.

David Payne and Matthew were nervously searching the area.

The witness went to them, he does not remember which one, and asked what was happening. One of them responded to the witness in English stating "GIRL IS MISSING" - that a child had gone missing. After a few moments, around 5 or 10 minutes, he heard screaming from the apartment zone and saw a woman on the balcony of 5 A. He did not understand what she was saying. As it was night, and given the distance from the Tapas bar to the apartment, he was not able to determine if there was someone else next to the woman on the balcony. At that moment his colleague, Joe, met up with him and asked the witness to call the police, and that a child has gone missing and could not be found. Immediately afterwards, Joe left toward the street. He does not know who gave this information to Joe but the witness (or his colleague who believes the witness did so) called the reception asking them to inform the police.
