I said a jury 'could very well have convicted them'.  I didn't say they would have done so.  Whatever would have happened would have been extremely unpleasant for them.  The removal of Dr Amaral was a gift from heaven.

Isn't that saying that Snr Amaral was the only one able to progress the investigation to prosecution and that his colleagues couldn't do it? Who heads up the investigation is surely irrelevant if the evidence exists and is collected through investigative techniques. Snr Amaral's replacement, had the evidence been as strong surely would have proceeded in that direction?

If I may, can I preume that you think it was a gift from heaven because once Amaral was removed the investigation took another direction?
