Paulo Pereira Cristovao is currently serving a suspended sentence of 4½ years for embezzlement, misuse of club money and a slanderous denunciation and is facing other more serious charges of criminal association, robbery, kidnapping, possession of prohibited weapon, abuse of power, violation of domicile by an official and forgery of a document.

The Mirror fails to point this out in their article referring to Cristovao as a 'top cop'.

Question is, why is this ex cop thug being given any oxygen whatsoever by the British press?

Perhaps he's a suspect.  That E-Fit an all.

The story certainly didn't run.  If it had who knows where it might have led; without specific information the Policia Judiciaria had their hands full looking into nooks and crannies in Luz without casting the net further afield.
