If the Portuguese would truly co operate then the SY investigation would cost less and be over quicker...the Portuguese have made such a  mess of this they want to save face

Apart from interrupting the continuity of the investigation the huge delays must be adding considerably to the cost.

If the new Prosecutor is as good as her word ... we should see some progress being made now.
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Why would delays cause increased costs? You don't think that the police associated with the operation will be twiddling their thumbs do you?  &%+((£

Officers from Operation Grange were on hand to work in the search for Alice Gross.

The fact that they are back in Portugal with such alacrity after the appointment of a new Prosecutor who has declared her intentions in Madeleine's case speaks volumes.

That you seem to have no idea why delays of months at a time and delays in waiting for permissions might hamper an ongoing investigation and add to costs rather says it all.

The work which requires to be done ... is in Portugal.

The people they require to interview ... are in Portugal.

The locations they require to visit ... are in Portugal.

The searches they require to do ... are in Portugal.

Hmmm … It is the end of the tourist season.

But you must admit it is heartening to have a new Prosecutor in place who thought nothing of putting on record her desire to have Madeleine’s case solved ... she didn't have to do that ... so I'm inclined to hope for the best and if random coincidence is part of that ... bring it on!

...and?

Well last time out with the shovels and all some Portuguese policefolk had the temerity to suggest that The Met were wasting their time because the guilty parties were not Portuguese but foreigners who were no longer in the country.

Ines does seem determined and the PJ works to timeframes.  They also are the lead investigators with SY partially tasked with ruling out hundreds of 'suspects'.

So: anyone have a clear idea as to when the PJ will announce their plans on how to proceed?

On 12 May 2011 the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) announced that, at the request of the Home Secretary, it had agreed to bring its particular expertise to the Madeleine McCann case.

The then Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson, considered the request and took the decision that on balance it was the right thing to do. This was subject to funding being made available by the Home Office, as this case is beyond the MPS's jurisdiction.  The Portuguese authorities retain the lead.

I don't know Gadfly, but hopefully we can assume that the PJ investigation will continue even if SY give up.
