Yes it does Eleanor. How does anyone know if the dates were right, in those papers. I'm sure SY will have looked at this, and not binned it.

That's the important thing, DCI.  No one actually knows if the first date given was incorrect.

"The night AFTER Madeleine disappeared."  All too easy to leave out the word AFTER.  It's been done before.  And Amaral had already made up his mind.  He might not have welcomed a sighting so close.
And let's face it, there is no doubt that lies were leaked to The Portuguese press.

Strange isn't it that the 2012 articles have the date as the day after ie 4th May and not the night Madeleine disappeared?

But don't forget, the original dates would have been passed on to the UK press. Could these have been checked out and rectified? The same goes for Kate being in the car, as in another paper it say's "Looked like Kate". Big difference, when there's at least 2 other woman, that could look like Kate.

Where did the British investigative journalism go to?
This case has shown the worst of the worst in the world...
Using a recanted notice from 2008, copied from portuguese journos and changing the dates is not bad journalism, it should be criminally punished.

They don't even had the preoccupation to read the following portuguese notices that showed that the man was questioned by the police and his testimony considered irrelevant. The man messed up - there was no Kate, no Madeleine and no Murat in his taxi on May the 3rd, 2007, at 20:10h.

Do you have a link to portuguese notices that showed that the man was questioned by the police and his testimony considered irrelevant.
Seems there was an awful lot on information classed as irrelevant, too much IMO!

Everything pointing to the innocence of The McCanns was irrelevant.  Still is in some quarters.

No, I don't have a reference at hand to give to you about António Castela. I have a memory though.

And the question is not if the McCann are innocent or guilty but why don't they open their game and tell all they know about what happened without subterfuges.

António Castela on his first interview to the journos said that he transported a child, that he later identified as M.McCann, accompanied by a woman that he believed was Kate McCann and 3 men, one of which looked like Murat. According to his deposition to the PJ, as related to the journalist from Correio da Manhã, the ride was between Vila Real de Santo António and a Hotel in Monte Gordo (about one kilometer away and more than 70 km from Praia da Luz). This, according to the interview, happened on the 3rd of May, 2007 at 20:10h.

If you were the police how much credit would you give to this account?
In fact, even the spokesperson to the McCann discarded that witness at the time.

I didn't think you would have! Memory isn't proof though is it? Or does that just apply to the McCann's?

They haven't deceived anyone IMO, but they have been deceived, on more than one occasion.
It depends if those dates and times are correct, and that is the only reason Clarence Mitchell discarded it.

Did anyone speak to his GNR Officer son?

Funny only the 24hors and another Portuguese paper mention Kate being in the car.
British papers don't.

Brietta posted on 10/04/2022 “But whether or not that is the reason behind the delay I am certain that Brueckner's trial is going to take place.”

Let’s count the months, shall we?

The news came as a Portuguese taxi driver told how he picked up Madeleine McCann with a blonde woman who looked like Kate McCann and three men including one who looked like suspect Robert Murat the night of her disappearance.

"The blonde woman with them looked to me like Madeleine's mother but I couldn't say whether or not it was her," he added.

Looked like, not was, Kate. As I said there is a difference.

AFAIAA the Portuguese press didn't say it was categorically Kate either.

Are you calling Joana Morais, a liar?

A taxi-driver of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, in the Algarve, guarantees to have transported Maddie, Kate McCann and three men – one of them similar to Murat – in the night of the disappearance of the English girl, in the 3rd of May of last year.

Oh, you are way out with that measurement Luz.

Almost twice that and maybe a little more than that, following the roads.
Lets err on your side and say 130km = over 80 miles
Some of it is fast but much of it is not so fast.

Check it on GEarth.
1)  Use the upright blue rule at the top of the page.
2)  click on it and when the banner comes down,
3)  click on path.
4)  Now change the unit of measurement: yards. metres, miles, kilometres etc to the unit you want, presumably kilometres

You are now ready to start measuring the path/road
i)  Move the pointer to Monte Gordo , click
ii)  Move the pointer to the next corner or curve.  Click on it
iii)  Move the pointer along a bit more along the road and click

iv)  Eventually you will come to the junction of the N120 above PdL. click
v)  then down to OC, click

vi)  The distance of the path comes up in the little box automatically.  Kilometres can be changed to miles, and miles to kilometers

I have only measured roughly and have cut corners a bit.  It is quite a drive
