With all due respect, Brietta, I don't think newspaper reporters monitor TripAdvisor, nor do they follow people they have never heard of on Twitter or Facebook. Those connections cannot be ruled out as someone who knows the family may have heard that way and forwarded it to the reporter.
"They no doubt contacted the newspaper for the reason of raising awareness." This attributes both an action and a motive to the family, without evidence to support either.
This story is still stuck with no more than the same information in 2 red tops, plus a re-hash in a regional English paper in southern Spain. Why have no heavyweight newspapers touched this alleged scandal?
If the father had been unable to safeguard his child and the abductor had been successful, I daresay we would have heard more about it.
There are many instances of unsuccessful and successful abductions occurring in this part of the world.
I think it is sad that the word of parents who have experienced such a traumatic event is automatically devalued because sometime in 2007 a Portuguese detective derided and decreed that a missing child could not possibly have been a victim of kidnap.
It does happen.
It doesn't only happen in Spain and Portugal ... it happens throughout the world ... and it happens in the most extraordinary and opportunistic circumstances.

She only turned her back for a couple of seconds, but by that point her three-year-old son was already gone. “She started shouting desperately, calling the name of her son,” said a witness.
In stark contrast to the festivities going on around them in Plaza de la Constitución at 8.20pm on Saturday, family members and friends frantically began their search for the missing toddler.
However, just a few metres away, Juan Diego, who was participating in the carnival as part of a troupe, had, on seeing the child in the man’s arms, intercepted him at the entrance of Calle Granada, until the family arrived.
The suspected child snatcher, dressed as an FBIagent and carrying toy handcuffs, was questioned by the Local Police after the commotion stirred among the crowd. He was then placed into police custody after a number of witness statements testified against him.
The alleged perpetrator, of Spanish nationality and a Malaga resident, claimed that he had seen the child wandering unattended and was looking after him.
However, new evidence has emerged in the form of a video recorded by a relative which counters the accused’s version of events.
Following the viewing of the 20-second clip at the hearing in Malaga on Monday, the prosecution called for the 47-year-old’s provisional admission to prison, a petition ratified by the magistrate.

His arrest, the product of an extensive police investigation, came in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Spain's Interior Minister Jorge Fernández Díaz said in a press conference on Wednesday.
The 42-year-old man is a Madrid resident of Spanish nationality but his identity remains unknown.
The suspect is thought to have kidnapped and abused at least five children in Madrid's Ciudad Lineal since September 2013. There had been three further attempted kidnappings, the interior minister said.
In at least two of the cases in question, children were taken to an apartment where they are thought to have been sexually abused. The paedophile then washed the children and returned them to the locations several kilometres from where they had been taken.
Police said they were now planning to search two apartments belong to the man's family as they continued their investigations.
The suspect in detention has a criminal record including prior convictions for sexual assault, kidnapping and armed robbery, Fernández Díaz said.
