Hi there, I'm new to this forum.
I am very interested in prison reform/prisoner's rights, criminal justice, Miscarriages of Justice and rehabilitation of offenders.
My sister worked with the Miscarriages of Justice Organisation in Glasgow which was founded by Paddy Hill from the Birmingham Six A lot of my interest stems from talking to people from there. It seems that it is easier for police to target men from deprived areas who have been on the wrong side of the authorities in the past, e.g. drugs and house-breaking, and pin serious crimes on them as they "were bound to be jailed for something anyway." I've heard some awful stories about this through her. Men who have been wrongfully convicted (and the vast majority of them are men) have came out of prison hooked on drugs, with £45 from the courts to get home and often nowhere to stay.
Anyway, if any of you have any interesting leads/people I can talk to about this sort of thing that have been 'chewed up and spat' out by the criminal justice system, or has a campaign/group/etc, I would like to know. It's something I am rather passionate about.
Thank you!
Christina
