Let me get my head round this.

You are suggesting a halt is called on a missing child investigation at a time when a senior police officer has told us that there are avenues of investigation still being actively followed and that there is a possibility that Madeleine may still be alive?

Aside from the fact that were those avenues to lead to Madeleine being discovered (alive) that would be a source of immense pleasure (to most of us!) that development would also be interesting for its implications in the libel trial.

Of course Smithman is a very important piece of the puzzle. But I think we have to wait for Grange and PGR  conclusions, and to know the new data, before answering your question, John. I expect them to publish their conclusions soon.

No it wouldn't.

Let’s count the months, shall we?

I did not suggest that, the OPs question was based on the fact/premise that the SY investigation is to end very soon and my reply was based on the what next question

I have reread your essentially very negative post and my opinion of it stands.

Perhaps you missed the opening sentence in the OP.  Please allow me to remind you ...

"There seems to be a lot of negatively about these days so let's think positive!"

An excellent sentiment not reflected in what you have to say ~ "Time to call it a day and use resources more wisely in future".

I don't know when the PJ and SY will decide that they have taken Madeleine's case as far as they can but presently there is still work being done and there is still the hope she is alive and can be recovered.
What justification can there be for your sentiment?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Reverse every sentiment you have expressed in your post and you may be halfway to working it out for yourself.

No, thats a cop out answer to me and the OP
