Following this theory, we ALL need "ruling out", everyone in the world is apparently a POI except the McCanns.

The fact that they are digging for Madeleine means they think she died at/near the OC.

That would certainly appear to be the case.  A big move from the  "we believe she is still alive" position which Andy was promoting last year.
A malicious prosecution for a crime which never existed. An exposé of egregious malfeasance by public officials.
Indeed, the truth never changes with the passage of time.

You've better start questioning all suicides that happened in Portugal since May 2007. That would allow for another £10m for Op Grange.

Wan't he saying Maddie MAY still be alive...which is exactly the same position today

So why are they spending £1000's looking for her in a grave in PdL ?

No, just the one in PdL since Redwood starting sniffing around there for suspects will do nicely.

You must have known this person Luz, care to enlighten us as to his background or is he an innocent by default?

It has been pointed out by several posters that he has no right to the presumption of innocence as he has not been charged

Yea Mr Davel that makes perfect sense. We are going to dig up PdL because it is our belief she is still alive.  Wonderful logic.

I don't know that person but only from what some residents told me. That man was in deep depression for a long time. His life had not been as brilliant as he probably had wished & it started way before 2007. He had personal problems that could explain a suicide but, as far as I could gather, other possibilities haven't been ruled out. There has been no official declaration as to what happened to him.

In Portugal, because there are limitation status for all crimes (unlike the US, for instance where there's no limitation for murder), when there are no immediate clues to follow, the strategy is to hold (archive) the investigation in order to suspend the counting of time and so, if better clues come  in he future there is a chance to bring justice to any crime that has happened.

Thank you for that information Luz.  If you hear anything from the town maybe you will let us all know.

just found this thread.

i was the english resident who found ricardo's wallet, id etc and handed it in to boavista reception.

i found it on the cliff near the obelisk/beacon overlooking luz and this is the first time ive heard that divers searched boavista lakes. i was subsequently interviewed by lagos police and pointed out the exact location on a map.

i did hear that ricardo had actually jumped off the cliff, but not convinced this is true.

much later there was an interview with his father on bbc news where he complained that no-one was searching for his son.

spookily enough we were also around when maddie went missing but i don't believe there's any connection.

most expats ive spoken to believe they know who was responsible....

Welcome to the forum Geoff and thank for your post.

Care to expand on your last sentence ?

Yes welcome Geoff.  What makes you think  the man did not throw himself off the cliff?  Can you recall the bbc interview date at all? and like faith, can you add your thoughts without libel, regarding what the locals believe are responsible?

If Geoff doesn’t reply just ask Shining In Luz, he knows what all the local expats there think.
