Very few if any news stories in the press for months, no updates from the parents, no new sightings, no weird theories being banded about and nothing new from the police in London and Portugal.

Has the Madeleine McCann story died at last?

Maybe it costs money to keep a story going?

What's left ?
2007- little girl vanishes into thin air whilst on holiday.
2008- case archived as no evidence of what if any crime was committed.
2008- McCanns settle damages out of court for scurrilous allegations by UK press.
2010-2016 - protracted libel case McCann v Amaral which did not go in the McCann's favour on final appeal.
2017- Alleged application to ECtHr by plaintiffs in July 2017.
2011-pres - Operation Grange.[April 2017 last official comment on Met website].

Half a million per annum to keep the story on the front pages I think it was according to Lord Bell.

Was it for more than one year?

Has the Madeleine McCann story died at last?

Many of the news stories could be attributed directly to the Find Madeleine campaign and Clarence Mitchell but that has all changed now.  Several possibilities come to mind why including diminishing resources and the need to protect their other children from the publicity which inevitably follows such stories.

This is only my opinion, but I think this was a significant moment;

February 2017
Court in Lisbon said lifting of 'suspect' status did not mean they're innocent
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4206214/Court-says-Madeleine-McCann-s-parents-HAVEN-T-cleared.html

After nine years of claiming they had been cleared they found themselves back where they started in 2008. Not only that, they were left with what was reported as a hefty bill to pay.

Not to worry, though;

A friend claims Kate and Gerry McCann have been offered huge bids for an exclusive interview
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2779529/madeleine-mccann-family-tv-10th-anniversary/

Then Scotland Yard got involved for some reason;

The couple are considering two pooled interviews in Britain, one for print through the country's national agency Press Association and one for broadcasters.

Both are being organised through Scotland Yard, Mitchell explained. He said: "There will be no fee."
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2876843/kate-gerry-mccann-cashing-in-anniversary-maddies-disappearance/

The following year Scotland Yard again had input;

Scotland Yard detectives are said to have warned the couple it could hinder the ongoing £12m search if they discuss it publicly
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6156218/madeline-mccann-parents-kate-gerry-warned-not-talk-11th-anniversary-disappearance/

Perhaps Operation Grange thought it was time to stop the show? The last gasp effort seems to have been the Luisa Todorov non story which ended ignominiously in November 2017.

A world without a McCann spokesperson would be wonderful.
If they wish to speak, then let them speak for themselves.
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.

You've been banging this particular drum for some time now; in my opinion you are repeating misinformation so might it not be an idea to desist ... unless you are able to comply with Jean-Pierre's request?

Oh dear.  You seem to have fallen for it!   8(0(*

Before dignifying this claim with any semblence of the "the trust" - could you just provide the entry from the leverson enquiry, and a note of where the fund made a payment of £500K?

Given the fund is audited by a very reputable firm, it should be easy to identify that very considerable sum.

Also in a post from Misty with a quote direct from the horse's mouth.

Bell-Pottinger were not employed by the McCanns in Luz. They were there to protect the reputation of MW so it would hardly have been in their interest to "promote" the disappearance of a child from one of their resorts.

"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

So you are saying Lord Bell lied? Or did Owen Jones lie?

Mitchell's quote was factually correct, but it isn't a denial.

From: ‘The Establishment: and how they get away with it’
by Owen Jones Published by Penguin 1 March 2015
(Lord Bell is commenting on the ‘Hacked Off’ campaign. )
‘Attempts to scrutinize the Murdoch empire were fiercely resisted by its allies in the British elite, who contrived to say they didn’t understand what the fuss was about. ‘I don’t want to know what happened to the Dowler family, and I’m very sorry, but honestly I can’t get into a state about it, says Lord Bell, Thatcher’s former advisor, chairman of PR giant Bell Pottinger, and a close ally of the Murdoch empire. He has long given Rupert Murdoch PR advice, and advised Rebekah Brooks during the phone-hacking scandal. ‘And I’m really not interested in what the McCanns think, because the McCanns paid me £ 500,000 in fees to keep them on the front page of every single newspaper for a year, which we did.’

But there was only one year.
