Very little.

When I was a child it existed because everything in our village was segregated. School, entertainment and even playmates. I was expected to play with those who had the same religion as me and to marry a man of the same religion. Those prejudices were rejected by most of my generation.

If the paper is outlawed there and no one reads it, they wouldn’t even know about the McCanns “selling their souls”to it would they..,  8(0(*

Fortunately those prejudices have  also been rejected by most here .

And yet you brought up the possibility of Scottish sectarianism influencing opinions of the McCanns.

Yes.
There are still pockets of bigotry.
But the bigotry that existed years ago which stopped people making progress in their careers or even prevented them being employed in  certain occupations has gone.

So institutionalised sectarianism existed in Scotland just as it did in Northern Ireland?

That's something I never even considered; that sectarianism might still be affecting people's outlooks. That explains why the word 'hate' is used, because they know all about that don't they? Hating each other simply because they belong to different religious denominations. It also explains why I thought I recognised signs of bigotry here and there, because that's what sectarianism really is.

I saw it in action when I was growing up and I decided as a teenager that I didn't want to be associated with it. How could people who saw themselves as Christians be so scathing, bitter and hateful towards others? How could they see themselves as superior when they were filled with hate? Bigots pure and simple.
I believe I have heard it said that there is at least one leading sceptic who professes Christian values?
"All I'm going to say is that we've conducted a very serious investigation and there's no indication that Madeleine McCann's parents are connected to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have a lot of evidence pointing out that Christian killed her," Wolter told the "Friday at 9"....

Sectarianism isn't anything to do with Christian values. In fact it's the antithesis of Christian values in my opinion.

Who is hating "a person with whom one is unacquainted"?  But plenty dislike the way the PJ handled the case.

For no other reason than they can.

It's against the law; the Act of Settlement 1701. It wasn't until 2015 that those in line to the throne were allowed to marry a Catholic without being removed from succession.

That the McCanns had sold the rights to Kate’s book to the Sun.
Wasn't that only the serialisation of the book to the Sun?   Cite please for your claim Faithlilly.  Offending post has been deleted, so don't bother now.

So do Liverpool supporters hate everyone who appears in the Sun, by association?
