Is that 10 years ago as in 2009 or 1999 ?

Does this phasing out apply in Portugal, or is it a UK thing? Different rules do apply in different countries.

1997 when the UK made it a POM. I will try to find out what Portugal did. It is implied though that the drug was brought from the UK. Along with KM’s Dad’s Parkinson ‘s meds, reportedly!

Read my post above.
Why don’t you think the deadly Terf was used then?

As I’ve said Gerry used the band name of everything else so why not Terfenadine ?

For the record I don’t think if the children were sedated Terfenadine was used but it’s interesting why supporters are  adverse to Gerry admitting he had it.

Indeed - asI said earlier it was marketed as a non-sedating AH.

This was a witness statement, nor everyday conversation, a statement in which Gerry used brand names for every other drug they had brought to Portugal. Why do you think he would change that solely on this drug ?

We dint know exactly what Gerry said in his interview... There is no record

Terf - is that it's street name?

Was it actually Calpol, or was it a Calpol like product they had?  Do we have photographic proof of all these deadly drugs, and if not why not?  Why does Gerry own up to having the drug that supposedly he was feeding to all his kids?  Is he deranged?

I'm a dad and I would never buy calpol or neurofen because there are cheaper alternatives that are exactly the same..
But I might call it calpol

It’s what I call it when I talk to the kids:  “Time for your Terf, and stop crying or I’ll slap you”.

A heady mix of sedation and intimidation. 70% of the time it works every time.

Brand Names - retail brand names.
"--- When they travelled on holiday to Portugal they brought several medicines, namely Calpol, Nurofen, for fevers and pains, both for adults and children, Losec for gastric problems that he occasionally suffers from, and an anti-histamine called Terfenadine for hay fever. He did not give any of these medicines or any others to the children while on holiday in Portugal."
Calpol, Nurofen, Losec,  and an anti-histamine called Terfenadine.

Calpol - "The analgesic (pain reliever) and antipyretic (fever reducer) paracetamol (INN) (/ˌpærəˈsiːtəmɒl/ or /ˌpærəˈsɛtəmɒl/), also known as acetaminophen (USAN) /əˌsiːtəˈmɪnəfɪn/ (About this soundlisten), is sold around the world under a number of different brand names. Common brand names include Tylenol, Calpol, and Panadol."

Nurofen - Nurofen was the first OTC medicine to use ibuprofen. It’s the fastest growing analgesic brand globally.

Losec - "Omeprazole, sold under the brand names Prilosec and Losec among others, is a medication used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger–Ellison syndrome."

terfenadine - Multi-ingredient medications containing terfenadine:
pseudoephedrine/terfenadine systemic
Brand names: Seldane-D
Drug class(es): upper respiratory combinations
Pseudoephedrine/terfenadine systemic is used in the treatment of:

Allergic Rhinitis
Cold Symptoms
Nasal Congestion

There are no brands called "Terfenadine"  "terfenadine" is the active ingredient.
"Ternadin side effects and Toxicity
Mild (e.g., headache, nausea, confusion), but adverse cardiac events including cardiac arrest, ventricular arrhythmias including torsades de pointes and QT prolongation have been reported. LD50=xxxx mg/kg (orally in mice)"

Note: The LD 50 was not filled in.

Might be that the lethal dose wasn't tested.

Here's an example MSDS - says the toxicology hasn't been fully tested, but there's a list of nominal doses.

It would be interesting to know who prescribed the hayfever medicine.

Terldane was a brand sold in NZ and Gerry was a doctor in NZ years before.  Did he have a stock of it?

Definition TDLO - "Toxic dose low (TDLO): The lowest dose of a substance introduced by any route, other than inhalation, over any given period of time, and reported to produce any toxic effect in humans or to produce tumorigenic or reproductive effects in animals."

Safety Data sheet for Terfenadine;

States "Section 11. Toxicological Information
The toxicological effects of this product have not been thoroughly studied.
Terfenadine - Toxicity Data: Oral TDLO (man): 36 mg/kg/3W (intermittent); Oral TDLO (child): 3
mg/kg;"

3 mg/kg for a child. Madeleine was estimated to weigh 16 kg.  16 X 3 = 48 mg could be toxic.
I was unable to find the dosage per tablet.

Toxic and lethal are two different things. TDLO is the lowest dose that would cause a toxic effect, which are usually listed on the MSDS.

I've got that but what dosage was it marketed as?    That information I couldn't find.
