The front door is easily closed from the inside.  IMO Someone saw Madeleine leave via the front door and tried to intercept her via the patio door,  but they needed to close the front door first.  In other words delayed in following her.

Earlier in the week did the McCanns chase after the kids or did they go out via the patio door and stop them running onto the road?

Does Rob have a an answer
IN my theory.
It is not Madeleine who closes the door but the person who sees her escaping via the front door that does.  That means it is closed from the inside and the person without Madeleine in his arms leaves via the patio door, hoping to catch Madeleine outside somewhere before she is hurt.

I'd think, if I'm right, Madeleine would be very frightened of whoever came into the apartment, and was in no mood to be caught by this "stranger".

I repeat, you can´t close that front door behind you without a key so as the dogs ignored the Patio doors, I feel Maddie was taken out dead.

You are totally wrong.  The front door had a snib type lock which meant that all you had to do was pull it closed. The tracker dogs use ground scent and not air scent. Air scent dissipates very quickly and so tracking by means of air scent can only be used in hot pursuit situations. Ergo, if the dogs tracked Maddie using ground scent then she had to have walked out of that apartment. Had Maddie been carried out there would have been no scent trail to follow hours after the event.

This entire thread is based on a wrong supposition. There was no reason for the mother of the missing child to give the GNR officers anything other than clothing and blankets associated with her.

Why doesn't he simply follow her out the front door

And let the twins run amok too?  No I don't think there is any intention to hurt anyone here, it could have been a well meaning person checking on the McCann kids , but because Madeleine is awake and she is fearful she takes flight using a path she knows about from the earlier adventure she had that week.

She knows where to go but the other person doesn't know where she has gone.

Rob still doesn't understand how the lock works. He thinks that it cannot be closed without a key.

I don´t have a problem with this if you are right about the door. It´s not as if I have a religious belief-- I am looking for a best fit, just like I suppose most of us are. So, perp comes in patio door. Closes door, and closes the drapes BEFORE he lifts Madeleine or after lifting Madeleine he decides to go out front door and goes back to pull over the drapes etc??

I think you are right

If the Mc Canns had locked the front door [ I think they could not remember] the perp could not have gone out that way without a key.

Well, I have to believe what the Tapas people said about the front door. They were there. I have not stayed in one of those flats. i don´t for one second believe the Mc Canns had anything to do with it. In fact they are both smart people. Imagine for a second they did have something to do with it after an accident [ not what I believe]........why would he offer the PJ the story about having to go after Madeleine one morning around that route the dogs took? Surely he would be keen to let them think this was the ´´abductor´´ going out the front door with Madeleine? Ok, maybe I am missing something...............

What you could be missing is that if Tannerman was the abductor Gerry was clearly not involved because he was speaking to Jez when Tannerman was seen, according to Jane. Unfortinately Jes was unable to confirm either the time or Jane's presence, so it wasn't ideal.

If the GNR dogs were tracking Madeleine's movements on the evening of 3rd, then the time and those involved are unknown.

Well I think you are wrong.  I had 5 bits of evidence supporting my view.

As the key was left sitting on the kitchen worktop anyone inside the apartment could have opened the front door.  However, if the door was snib locked only rather than bolt locked then someone inside did not need a key and all they had to do was pull the little lever to open the door.

Unless the chat withJez was necessary to let Tannerman get away?  GM has already suggested that he might not have been the only adult in the apartment on the 9pm check.

It's a snib type lock Rob, it locks automatically when pulled or pushed shut.  It cannot be opened from the outside without a key but can be opened from the inside without a key.  A standard Yale lock works on the same principle.

Now that's an interesting idea.

But there are two videos of people closing this type of lock at OC and none of them just push the door shut.
