For information:

“Not all SAR dogs perform the same type of search. Some dogs are tracking (or trailing) dogs, and others are air-scent (or area-search) dogs. The types overlap, but the distinction between the two guides are the training process and how the dog participates in missions. Tracking dogs work with their nose to the ground. They follow a trail of human scent -- typically heavy skin particles that fall quickly to the ground or onto bushes -- through any type of terrain. These dogs are not searching, they're following: Tracking dogs need a "last seen" starting point, an article with the person's scent on it to work from and an uncontaminated trail.

For tracking, time is an issue. If a child disappears from a school playground or a inmate escapes from a prison, a tracking dog might be called in to follow the person's scent immediately after the disappearance, before other search groups and law-enforcement personnel contaminate the scent trail.

Air-scent dogs, on the other hand, work with their nose in the air. They pick up human scent anywhere in the vicinity -- they don't need a "last seen" starting point, an article to work from or a scent trail, and time is not an issue. Whereas tracking dogs follow a particular scent trail, air-scent dogs pick up a scent carried in air currents and seek out its origin -- the point of greatest concentration.

Air-scent dogs might be called in to find a missing hiker located "somewhere in a national park," an avalanche victim beneath 15 feet of snow or people buried under a collapsed building”. (animals.howstuffworks.com).

Now that's an interesting idea.
That is an interesting one I hadn't heard or considered.

Unless the chat withJez was necessary to let Tannerman get away?  GM has already suggested that he might not have been the only adult in the apartment on the 9pm check.

I've thought that. If Jes had been allowed to carry on he'd have bumped into Tannerman.

But there are two videos of people closing this type of lock at OC and none of them just push the door shut.

There is a knob on the inside which you turn to close... It makes it quieter... Outside no knob so just pull shut

A useful explanation.

Air scent dogs would clearly be useless.
Which type of dogs were deployed & when.

Afaik you have posted two vids connected with locks.  One shows Amaral opening the front door of 5A from inside.  The other shows the cleaner opening the door inside her own home and the lock is completely different from 5A.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Based on the description above it must have been tracking?

The first arrivals from Lisbon (8am ish) weren't given anything to sniff because they weren't tracking dogs. They arrived later and were given the bath towel.

There is nothing certain about this case. They should have been tracker dogs
There was a suggestion made earlier that the first dogs were merely patrol dogs.
I don't know the validity of that & cannot give a cite

Well according to this witness he deployed 2 sniffer dogs:

Yes, these are the later dogs, deployed after 23.00 on the 4th

A somewhat convoluted route for an abductor - IMO

I thought this bit interesting -

He states that after the search inside block 5, and whilst in the exterior, the sniffer dog took the same route on 04.05.07, being the existent road of that apartment and the leisure area (pools and restaurant) and then went to the same parking area. At that point, the scent was lost. This situation may be related to the fact that the biggest concentration of odours are in that area and due to the fact that odours are better preserved near walls and away from major winds. It is certain that upon reaching the main road and turning right is where the biggest concentration of odours exist. This is where the dog lost interest.

The suggestion being that the scent may well have been dissipated in the open space of the car park.

But it also states that he is certain that upon reaching the main road and turning right is where the biggest concentration of odours exist and that this is where the dog lost interest.  This to my mind suggests MM was either placed in a car or less likely went into one of the apartments in block 6.  I say less likely in that the dogs did not advance towards doors in block 6.
