So, a couple of hours before Gerry would tell cops about the using the key for the wooden door all these people were talking about the patio being open?!!

I would like to know who was the first person to give out this info?? For very obvious reasons!!

That article doesn't mention patio doors, as far as I can see. It mentions a door being ajar, without specifying which door.

Yes, true. That would be even worse...............in the sense that if true, this was hidden from police

Gerry has said the door wasn't double locked so key wouldn't have been required.

It was single locked and would have required a key to open it
.   Just like the front door Yale keys so prevalent in the UK when I was younger

So one could open it quite unobtrusively from the outside with caution?

Nothing to do with political correctness but if male the chances are the motive was sexual.  If female the chances are the motive was abducting a child to fill a void through loss or childlessness etc.

I don't know if this was an off the cuff respose to another post, however let us give it some leg room...

A saddened, childless female stumbles upon a corner apartment -see the patio doors are unlocked and wanders in- she sees  baby twins oh such luck she thinks- a choice she can have a male or female. after thinking about it, she decides she prefers a toddler. So snatches MBM.  what happens next...?

Is this desperado woman English Speaking  or other language, is she aware the toddler speaks English how would she get away with hiding her , what excuses could she offer family/friends.

OK that is a no go. Too fanciful.

We don't know how light a sleeper Madeleine was.  If someone double locked the front door with the key it might really clank and wake Madeleine.

I think we can safely say the children were known to waken up during the eve/night. We have evidence. Mrs Fenn and Madeleine herself. Not to mention the 'star' chart to monitor sleep back home.
Also, Gerry claims in the panorama recon program that they never used the front door in case they woke the children...

Are we thinking MBM left by the front door  to fit with the tracking dogs? Did she leave on foot (bare feet) or was she carried.?

Well if that doesn't work think of the situation that works.

Because there is no handle on the front door, the door can't be left in a state of "closed but accessible from the outside", not without a key.
So from the earliest reports that the door was left agar, to those that know that can only be the patio door.  Despite this Gerry in his 4th May statement he went to the front door and used the key.  Whether he meant the front door who knows but it was the only door that had a keyhole, so everyone hearing that thinks of the front door.

This is not supported by the others (Kate and Matt) who do the checks of 5A via the patio door.

I don't see any reason that would prevent Gerry using the front door on his check, provided he had his keys with him.  He could come in via the front door and put his keys down on the kitchen bench, and since he left via the patio door didn't check that he had the keys with him at that stage.

In that article (http://web.archive.org/web/20070519134145/http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/6232) it says "The apartment block in the Mark Warner complex is just 200 yards from the sea"  Is that in any way true?

I find that hard to believe.  Who told the reporter it was just 200 yards to the sea?  Yards not meters too, so it sounds more English rather than Portuguese resident.

How much is that in feet and inches?  that reporter must be ancient -yards?   it has been metric for  years!

That may have stemmed from other conversations about 'like being in your back Garden' They could see the apartment from where they dined-  sounds great, until it is exposed they could only see the roof. Do'H

Well the other one was "Sniffer dogs scoured the area for any signs of the missing youngster. One dog, after smelling a piece of the child’s clothes, appeared to pick up the scent before it disappeared some 50 yards away outside a local supermarket."

Was that 50 yards from the supermarket?  Just walking around the apartment block that would be 100 yards on its own.  I recall it was 30 meters to the secondary reception entrance from the lane, and 5 meters from the gate to the lane.  It was at least 15 meters to the car park across from the reception.    We are still nowhere near the supermarket.

Just to remind those young ones there is 3 feet in a yard and exactly 12 inches in a foot.
