Perhaps it was the same Express reporter who said they were dining just yards away   @)(++(*

The sniffer dogs could have been picking up a scent from a previous day.

That is true "as the crow flies".

I know that as far as some are concerned, the McCanns can walk on water, I didn't realise they could also fly.
I believe everything. And l believe nothing.
I suspect everyone. And l suspect no one.
I gather the facts, examine the clues... and before   you know it, the case is solved!"

Or maybe not -

Did the PJ find any old broomsticks on their forensic check of the apartment?

Supersonic. we had one claim here about Kate only took 30 seconds to get from the apartment to the tapas...

And that was on a slow day with a bit of a headwind.

I don't know if this was an off the cuff respose to another post, however let us give it some leg room...

A saddened, childless female stumbles upon a corner apartment -see the patio doors are unlocked and wanders in- she sees  baby twins oh such luck she thinks- a choice she can have a male or female. after thinking about it, she decides she prefers a toddler. So snatches MBM.  what happens next...?

Is this desperado woman English Speaking  or other language, is she aware the toddler speaks English how would she get away with hiding her , what excuses could she offer family/friends.

OK that is a no go. Too fanciful.

Going to Mothercare. Snatch a baby from a pram...

If you think I would make such a post without a) having some evidence and b) not thinking it through you are mistaken.
Just my opinion of course but Jeremy Bamber is innocent and a couple from UK, unknown to T9, abducted Madeleine McCann - motive unknown.  Was J J murdered as a result of identifying as a goth?

Posters are reminded of the forum rules and the penalties for breaching same. Please keep posts amicable and constructive and above all, on topic. TY

So one could open it quite unobtrusively from the outside with caution?

If one had the key, then yes it could be unlocked simply from the outside.

No probs because it was deeply set in a dark alcove and nobody passed by.  It was at the end of a pathway, which was high walled and was a dead end.   Easy peasy.

.... and yes, with a key, the front door could be opened unobtrusively.

I just challenged your theory, there is no evidence of MBM being snatched for a lonesome wifie seeking a child.

I know you feel you are a very competent sleuth who cannot be wrong in your hypothisis- I disagree you have such a skill as you claim, and have not solved the mystery.

Because there is no handle on the front door, the door can't be left in a state of "closed but accessible from the outside", not without a key.
So from the earliest reports that the door was left agar, to those that know that can only be the patio door.  Despite this Gerry in his 4th May statement he went to the front door and used the key.  Whether he meant the front door who knows but it was the only door that had a keyhole, so everyone hearing that thinks of the front door.

This is not supported by the others (Kate and Matt) who do the checks of 5A via the patio door.

I don't see any reason that would prevent Gerry using the front door on his check, provided he had his keys with him.  He could come in via the front door and put his keys down on the kitchen bench, and since he left via the patio door didn't check that he had the keys with him at that stage.

In that article (http://web.archive.org/web/20070519134145/http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/6232) it says "The apartment block in the Mark Warner complex is just 200 yards from the sea"  Is that in any way true?

I find that hard to believe.  Who told the reporter it was just 200 yards to the sea?  Yards not meters too, so it sounds more English rather than Portuguese resident.

No, it is not correct,   Crow flies I make it at least 370 yards and more when walked, because there are no direct paths

Again, what's the chances of a bereft female with maternal yearnings bobbing around and stumbling across an opportunity? Then having the brass neck to perpetrate the act, then get away with it so successfully?
Besides, surely she'd be better off hanging around Mothercare?
Stealing a child from Mothercare is way more brazen and risky than stealing one from an unlocked ground floor in which there are no adults, imo.

Brazen child snatchers: April Jones, Jamie Bulger and The Moors murdered children- all snatched, very brazen.

Well, he was right on that one.

They were dining about 55 yards away, crow flies.

Indeed, and yet some on this forum really struggle with the idea that a child abductor would take the risk of entering an unlocked, unsupervised ground floor apartment.
